I learned of Katharina Elisabeth Maus, born about 1849, last town of residence was Goßmannsrode, Hesse, Germany. She emigrated alone to America.

I'm not related (as far as I know) to the Maus-Family but I saw this information while checking emigration-records of Goßmannsrode and I hope it might help somebody.

Hi,

I'm currently researching a bit of the same line you are. Susan J. Peel (born 1884 from what I can tell) was a half sister to my grandfather Carl F. Peel. They had the same father, John.

I don't have any more information on Susan that you do, but promise to share if I come across anything. I'm really stuck on her father, my, and I assume, your great grandfather. The geneologies have him as descending from Henry E. Peel in Indiana. But this Henry E. Peel was from North Carolina originally, born there and his line goes back to Lawrence Peel settling in Viriginia in 1621. His maternal line can be traced all the way back to about 950 and the line of Picot de Saye, a Norman who was given land in Shropshire for supporting William the Conqueror in his invasion of England (and giving Norman soil to the church). But I don't think this is our line because on every one of the census records that John father of Suan filled out it says his parents were born in Ireland (later designated as Northern Ireland). He's first generation American where as Henry is already upteen generation at that point.

Confusing matters is what appears to be great popularity among John Peels of Livingston County, New York in the 1800s marrying women named Mary. (God I wish the censuses gave maiden names and places of birth).

Anyway, if I find anything about Susan J., I'll let you know. Any light you can shed on the Peels of Livonia, would be appreciated.

Best,

Carl Peel

SYLVESTOR'S FATHER WAS FREDRICK MAUS AND I DO HAVE A PHOTO OF FREDRICK'S GRAVE. THEY ALSO CHANGED THEIR NAME FROM MAUS TO MOSS. I AM LOOKING FOR INFORMATION ON AMERICAN INDIAN ON THE MOSS OR WINGARD SIDE. MAYBE BLACKFOOT.

I DO NOT HAVE INFORMATION ON WHAT PART OF GERMANY THAT THEY CAME FROM. I ALSO HAVE A PHOTO OF A FRANK MOSS.

I need to know where in Germany the family originated. Any other info on Frank or other siblings of Stella would be greatly appreciated.

Susan Peel

Hi Judy,

Great news; this is very exciting!

Is this edition also written by Frederick A. Babcock, and what is the date?

Does it say anything about the parents of John (also William or Tankard) Maus, b abt. 1751? This is the boy whose parents were killed during the French & Indian Wars, and we haven't been able to go back any further due to the lack of information on the parents.

Also, from you message, it looks like there are connections noted between the NY/Canadian Maus families and Pa. I always thought there should be, but could could never make the connecection. Can you easily determine how far back this goes.

Lastly, how can I get a copy? I am more than willing to pay for copies and shipping. I suspect there are more than 100 pages. Please send me a note to my eamail address maushaus2@msn.com. My immediately family should be in this edition if you have any concerns about releasing info.

John Maus
Tulsa, OK

Maus to Morse

I have a note showing a William H. Morse, b. 10/17/1842, and suspect it was in Herkimer Co., NY, but not sure. His father is suposed to be Nathaniel B. Maus/Morse b. abt. 1791. Yes, quite a difference in ages, but the youngest child was born in 1810 and the last in 1845.

Nathaniel's father was John or William "Tankard" Maus, and it is possible he was born in Germany, and most certainly his parents, whom were both killed in the French & Indian Wars, were from Germany.

I do have a couple other William Mauses, but neither seem to match.

There was a migration of at least two Maus brothers' families from Herkimer Co., NY State to Canada, and then one returned, which includes my line in the early 1800's to the Erie and Genesee Co. areas.

If you have any other clues about spouses names and other relatives, I may be able to help fit some pieces together.

John Maus
Tulsa, OK
After a quick look through "Stones" a Who's Who of the Maus Family of Province of Ontario, there doesn't appear to be any references to the Moe family, and although I'm related to the Canadian side through my GGGGrandfather, Danel Maus who came back to Western NY State in the early 1800s, I don't show any Moe family references either.

Do you have any names of the Maus folks or other related family names that might show up in my files? If so, we may still be able to make some connections.

Good Luck,

John Maus

Hi, nice to hear from you. I was helping my friend
do research on this family as it is hers. She has all
the information you might want. Her name and address
is as follows:
Dorothy Starzyk
4575 Dorsett Shoals Run
Douglasville, GA. 30135-1592
She doesn't have access to a computer so you would be
better off writing to her. If you want you can give me your
name and address and phone # so I can pass it on to her
or if you don' t feel
comfortable doing that, just write to her and she will
respond quickly. Good luck and let me know if you
want to have me ask her any questions before you
get in touch with her.
