Thanks Bob, I have checked the passenger lists. My Great-Grandfather worked his way over, either as crew on a ship or as an endentured servant, neither of which are normally listed. Those that DO list them, he was not on the list. I appreciate all replies and check them out if I haven't done so already.

Linda

Hi,
You might want to check the the passenger lists
from Ellis Island. There you can do a search and
see from which port they sailed (if you have luck!)
I think that it is still free. You just need to register.
They probably sailed from Germany.
My great GF/GM Jacob / Margarette Mautz
and my GF Christian Mautz plus Barbara Mautz(relationship unknown- sister of my GF?) sailed from Bremen Germany and landed on July 13 1892 in New York.
Unfortunately I have not been able to trace them back to a place in Germany or Hungary even though I live in Germany.

Bob Mautz
mautzrc@gmx.de

PS sorry for the late answer.

Mauz from Burladingen/ Wisconsin

I am looking for information on a Mathias MAUZ who was from Burladingen. I have his son Kilian MAUZ who came to Wisconsin in 1893 and his daughter Anna MAUZ who also came to Wisconsin in 1893. Kilian had a daughter Antonia who came to Colorado in 1907 from Burladingen. I am also looking for an Engelbert MAUZ who married Anna in Burladingen, Engelbert (son of Joseph MAUZ and Anna ?)came to Wisconsin before Anna in 1890. Engelbert and Anna had 5 children born in Burladingen: Katherine MAUZ born 1880, Regina MAUZ born 1884, Johanna MAUZ born 1883, Joseph MAUZ born 1887 and Mathias MAUZ born 1889.
I do not know how Anna and Engelbert were related before marriage, just that they both had the surname MAUZ.
Engelbert and Anna changed their name to MAUTZ once in Wisconsin. Kilian and family kept the name MAUZ and ended up in Colorado.
Any assistance on this family would be much appreciated.

You can access their Catalog at www.familysearch.org.
The LDS Family History Center(FHC) in Salt Lake City has several microfilms on Burladingen Catholic Church records. If there is an LDS church near you they might possibly have a small FHC there . If not they could tell you where the closest one is. At the FHC branch you can then order a loan of those Microfilms for a few weeks and access them at the branch. Thats How I did my search of Burladingen records. The Salt Lake City Family history Library Catalog is available on line at www.familysearch.org

I was put in personal touch with the administrator of the "ratthaus" or records house. We corresponded via email. But that was in Nellingen. I would do a search using the town name you have and see what comes up unless you know someone in the town who can personally go over and talk to them and get an EMail address for you. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Linda

He died in 1864

I have a Georg in my direct lineage but he wasn't born til 1817. Sorry I can't help. I have a few other books around here with other Mauz lines in them.
Hi Richard;

I don't know of a connection there. I've never heard of it. My tree runs dry with Bartolomew who was the first Mauz known in Nellingen. No one can find where he came from although records say Esslingen. There are no records of him in Esslingen so he must've just passed through there and then settled in the next town across the Neckar river which is Nellingen.

If you give me a few of your 1700 names and dates I can cross check from Bartolomew forward since I think his dates are the mid 1600's. I don't have my stuff in front of me at the moment but if hear from you I'll check your name/dates against what I do have.

Linda

Hi Sherry,

The books were done by a family located near Zanesville, Ohio USA. There were not a lot printed. I was always told that there was a copy in the Muskingum County Library at Zanesville, but when I was there this past summer, they were not anywhere to be found. I do have one book, of which my own family was not included.

My family is from the town of Nellingen, about 10 miles (sorry I don't know the Kilometer conversion) south-southwest of Stuttgart. My tree goes back to the first Mauz in Nellingen, of which there are 3 or 4 branches. My own greatgrandfather was born in 1855 in Nellingen and came to America around 1881 where he located in Zanesville and raised his two sons, after losing their older sister who died at age 3. His name was Christian Gottfried and he went by Chris. His sons were Henry and Otto. To our knowledge, these are the only persons from that particular branch that located near Zanesville, although there are other Mautz' there who claim to be from Nellingen also. I haven't traced their information to see which branch they belong to.

Linda

Christian Mautz was my great, great, great grandfather. He left Germany at the age of 17 in 1850 with his family - father, mother, 9 brothers and 2 sisters. They landed in New York in June 1850. They settled in Pana, IL near Shelbyville & Tower Hill where Christian's older brother already resided. He married Wilhelmena Roessler January 26,1860. They lived on a farm near Shelbyville, where they had 10 children, until 1879. They then moved to Prescott, Arkansas and had 2 more children. Christian died in 1900, Wilhelmena died in 1907. Their children were - Rosina, Annie, Emma, Minnie, Emanuel, Charles, Bertha, Ella, George, Louisa, Matilda and Edna. I also know the grandchildrens names.
Does anyone have any relation to them or anymore info? I am new at this and have just begun my search.
