MARRIAGE OF BREWSTER MAVERICK TO MARIE ELLEN BOLEYN

I know that the wedding took place before the end of 1870; Mrs Maverick appears on the US census. I think that it was in the UK - but that's just a hunch. I can find no trace of the marriage, eiher in the UK or in USA.
Please can anyone help?
katieb

The Mavericks are a much-revered Texas dynasty. Check the following web entry for a biographical sketch of your uncle Samuel Augustus Maverick:

http://www.tsha.utexas.edu/handbook/online/articles/view/MM/...

THE HANDBOOK OF TEXAS ONLINE has entries for several other family members as well. Happy hunting.

Peter Flagg Maxson
PLEASE
> RESPOND. THANK YOU

Cool hearing from you, thanks for writing.
Things go pretty slow around here, I had
all but forgotten posting that message even
though it was only a little over a month ago.

So, I would still say it'd be a good idea
for you to look at the tree I have posted at
RootsWeb to check your names/dates/places
against mine. I would really really
appreciate any corrections/additions to
the info I have. Most of the info that I
have on the earlier Mavericks was given to
me by this very nice guy Dan Tollison, who
is related to the Mavericks via the Turpins
the same way you and I are. He had a lot of
stuff collected from around the internet and
was able to help me patch my line all the
way through to the original emigrant
Maverick. I haven't been working on this
line in quite awhile though, so I'm having a
hard time remembering who's who. You'll
have to go look at my tree, it remembers
things much better than I do.
You can get to it by going to my website
at http://www.edithfrost.com/ and hitting
the "ancestry" link, then the link that
says "view my family tree" or words to that
effect. And if you need to contact me
directly the address is edithfrost@yahoo.com
-- I don't think this board lets you see that
info unless it's typed right into the
message body.

Let me know how you're related, I'm just
curious. I'm only really researching my own
direct line but it sounds like we do have
some ancestors in common so maybe you have
some info that I don't. And you're more than
welcome to avail yourself of anything you
see on my tree as well. I don't have my
notes sources posted to RootsWeb but if
you ask me about individual people, I can
tell you whether or not I have any notes/
sources on them. Mostly it's all really
messy and undocumented but I can
occasionally deliver the goods.

Edith

Hello Mavericks!! My ancestors married into
the Mavericks a couple of times, but the
closest blood relation I have with them is
that my gggg-grandmother was Mary Elizabeth
Maverick, born in 1807 (probably in South
Carolina). She married Joseph Turpin Weyman
and her parents were Samuel Maverick
(1772-1852) and Elizabeth Anderson, daughter
of Gen. Robert Anderson of Charleston, SC.

If anyone's interested and/or think they
might have info to share, please let me know!
My tree is viewable at Rootsweb WorldConnect
under the username "edithfrost".

Edith

I am looking for any information and help on my mother's half brother's family. Her half brother was Glen Clifford Jamison, born in Richmond, KS, date ?, died on January 30, 1973 at the USAF Medical Center at Lackland Air Force Base, TX. His wife was "Punkie" Maverick Jamison. I'm sure this is a nickname, but I have no idea what her birth name was. My aunt told me she was a member of "prominent Texas Mavericks family". Punkie died after 1985. Glen and Punkie had two children, twins, whom they called Punch and Judy (also sure these are nicknames). I would appreciate any help you can give me. The children could still be lliving, probably in the San Antonio, TX area as that is where Glen and Punkie lived for many years.

I don't care if we're related by marriage or if you're actually direct blood, like myself... I'd like to start up correspondence with anyone linked to this side of my family.

Since my grandfather, Jack Maverick McGarraugh, passed away I haven't had anything to do with The Mavericks... I can't begin to say how greatly I miss the chance to spend time and to talk with family members so far away.

I would like to find some way of continuing the Maverick Family Reunion in Texas as our elders did.... If it's a tradition that isn't still continued today.

Any and all contact is quite welcome and I look forward to talking with y'all...

~Casey Marie

Thank you very much Bob. Never been to NY so know nothing about the area or those buildings.Had no clue to Brewster's parents, so that was all good info.
We don't know the connection between the Mavericks and the Rosiers; all we know is that my gfather was left some money by Ellen Maverick when she died in 1908. The letter went astray and my gfather's brother impersonated him, and went to the court in NY to claim it. By our family standards, it was a considerable sum - enough for the other brothers and sisters to have good presents. When Osmond was dying, he confessed to my granny about all this.
I'm nosy - would just like to find out more about this family. I have a card Bruce sent my grandad when he was a tiny boy and it gives the name of his executor and solicitor. Ellen sent us 2 photos in 1899 - one of herself and one of Bruce taken several years before his death in 1898.. My Dad's middle name was Brewster.

Not really. I did discover that the building at 176 Fulton Street was an old 5 story building - it was already demolished by the time the AT&T building went up - it had been replaced in 1907 by a building for The New York Law School, itself demolished for the AT&T (from Christopher Gray - Author of NYC Streetscapes).

Also, Jacob G. Wissinger is listed in the 1880 Census - 3rd Ward, District 2, Hoboken, Hudson Cnty, New Jersey, National Archives File T9-0786, Pg 317B

Also, found the following: The subject was the son of Samuel Maverick and Clara (Reynolds) Maverick. Like his father before him he became an engraver, but after 1856 he added lithography to his skills. In 1866 he entered into partnership with Louis Stephan, and in 1878 with J. G. Wissinger. The lithographic firm of Maverick and Wissinger survived into the first half of the twentieth century.

(inscription) on stretcher: "Brewster Maverick, son of Samuel and Clara Reynolds / Maverick. Born Jan. 19, 1831at 85 Liberty St., New York City / Died Jan. 25, 1898 at 136 W. 34th St., New York City"
Samuel Augustus Maverick

The family history of Samuel Augustus Maverick is printed in an old issue of the Frontier Times Magazine dated February 1925. Anyone interested in this story please contact me and I will send you a copy. It is quite long so I cannot reproduce it here. But I will give you a short introduction.

"Mrs. Annie E. Brown, who lives near Bandera (Texas) and is now in her eithty-seventh year has kindly loaned us a book entitled "San Antonio de Bexar" from which we have taken the following extracts from the Memoirs of Mrs. M. A. Maverick, widow of Samuel Augustus Maverick, for many years one of the leading citizens of San Antonio (Texas). The Mavericks were intimate friends to Mrs. Brown and the book from which these extracts were taken was presented to her by Mrs. Maverick."

"Samuel Augustus Maverick was born July 23, 1803 at Pendleton, South Carolina, of distinguished revolutionary stock of English and Hugenot extraction. Mrs. Maverick was an Adams, the Massachusetts family transplanted to Virginia and intermarried with a Lewis of that state. Mrs. Maverick was married August 4, 1836 near Tuscaloosa, Alabama, her mother's home. The family started for Texas October 14, 1837, Mr. Sam Maverick being then a baby of five months. Mr. Maverick, senior, had been in Texas in 1835, and his friends thought him killed in the Alamo fight."

The remaining article details their long journey to Texas and other family history.

Jessie Maverick McNeel - artist

Hi. I'm not related, but I have a piece of art signed "McNeel" with the date '08 or '11 (there's a slight smear there) after it. Someone on the McNeel board responded that this piece was probably done by Jessie Maverick McNeel (1877-1959) of Texas, so I began doing a little Internet searching and, I must say, you folks have a fascinating heritage!!

Jessie's father, Albert, was the 9th child of Samuel Augustus Maverick and Mary Ann Adams. Albert married Jane Lewis Maury and Jessie was their first child of 11 (all this per the little bit of research I've done via the web). Jessie married James Shelby McNeel, and the McNeel family history is impressive as well.

The piece I have that I think was probably done by Jessie measures about 6" x 10.5" and appears to be a watercolor (I'm not an artist). It's a lakeside view with a couple of trees in the foreground -- done in greens and tans. It's very pretty and much like the art of those days, I think -- serene.

Does anyone reading this know about Jessie? She and James had several children, so I assume there are a number of ancestors. I'd like to learn more about her art and if there's any displayed around Texas other than in private homes.

Thanks for any info. you can provide.
