I am a descendant of the Southern Ilinois/Kentucky Maxon's via Stephen Maxon's son Jesse, his son Morris, his son Orville, his daughter Bertie Maxon Hobbs(my grandma) who lived to be 101 in Madison County, Illinois. Her parents,My great grandparents, Orville and Molly Ogivle Maxon were staunch Southern Baptist who founded the Second Baptist Church in Madison, Illinois. My grandma spoke with pride of our family connect to the first Baptist church in Rhode Island. Imagine my surprize when I recently embarked on the genealogy of our Maxon Ancestors to find Stephen was a Quaker. What happened there? Does anyone know what the story is or where I might find out more about this fascinating little detail omitted from our little branch of the massive Maxson/Maxon family tree. I'll gladly share any information I have about our Maxon branch with anyone interested and will be eternally grateful for any information regarding this newly found Quaker connection.
