Hello, I just saw your post from 2007 about the Mayes pictures you found. Do you still have them and is there any way I could look at them? My family are Mayes' and I've hit a brick wall as to the origins of my gggrandfather Mayes. If you have the pictures posted somewhere could you let me know. Thank you very much.
Glenda Mayes

My Gr-Great Grandfather was Frederick or Fredrick L. Mayes, b. 5/31/1815, married to Elve or Eleanor Snider and they had 10 children, one being Sarah. The death certificate of one of Fredrick's sons (Richard Clark May-my Great Grandfather) shows Fredrick & Elve both born in WV. I don't have any info on who Sarah married, but it appears to be around the same time line you are looking at.
I have had problems with searches due to name variations - some of the family used May, others used Mayes or Mays.

klmay60@comcast.net

JT, Just wondering if you still had this email address. I'd like to know if you ever found out anything about William A. Mayes who died in 1818 Cumberland, KY or his son Frederick Mays/Mayes who was in Gallatin in 1820. He m. Prudence--?--. Have you ever seen that marriage record? I believe that my Mayes/Mays line is this, beginning with my grt-grt. grandparents Calvin Hunter's 2nd marriage to Sarah Ann Mayes in 1846. I believe Sarah Ann to be a daughter of Frederick and Prudence Mays/Mayes b. 1824 TN. Frederick Mayes/Mays was a son of William A. and Mary (Hunter) Mayes. William A. Mayes was b. abt. 1745 VA ,fought in the Rev. War, and died in Cumberland Co. KY 15 Jan 1818. Can you help in any way? My grt.grt.grt.-grandparents were Cader and Phebe Dinning Hunter, the parents of Calvin Hunter.

Melissa Mayes, was George Mayes mother according to my grandmother's notes. Her names was Stella Lee Mayes, daughter of Avery Stephenson Mayes, his father was George Mayes. Melissa or Malissa Mayes is listed on one of census records w/ George and Gemima. So that's where I get confused. I haven't been able to find any marriage records or birth records at all for Melissa or George Mayes. Was John Mayes married to Melissa Mayes? Any information on this would help me a great deal and would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance. Renee

William Garlock b? m? d? had a daughter Louisa Caroline Garlock b. March 17, 1842 in New York, d. 1919 Kent County, MI. Louisa C. Garlock married James Orr (widowed by Civil War), William Fernald (also widowed) then William Clark all in Allegan County, Michigan. Louisa and William Fernald had a daughter Nora Hazel who married Herman Repp, they had 2 daughters Evelyn and Agnes. Evelyn married Carl F. Miller (Moeller) and had 4 children [Marian Miller my mother] and me Carla Jean Hulecki-Killelea. I wonder if George Garlock is William's brother, or Louisa's brother, cousin? Let me know. carlajeankille@hotmail.com

Hi Jennifer. Just checking that I am on the right tract - did you attend Empangeni High until 1972? Having recently joined FaceBook and wondering where class mates are now, this morning I learned (via a post from Glenda Wise on the I love Empangeni FB site) what your married name is. A google search has brought up this 1999 posting that you made and the details seem such a good match. I hope that you are still on this email address as there are quite a few EHS class of '72 people keen to re-establish contact. Please let me know. Best wishes, Jeni Moir

Hi Sally Ann,
I really hope you are still checking on this site! John and Amanda Brown Mayes are my grandmothers' grandfather and grandmother. The Dellie that shows on the census is actually Bettie Belle. Bettie then would be my grandma's mother. She married Rolla Robert McAllister. They had two children. John and Elsie. Elsie is my grandma. The Florence Lee is DeWitt and Bettie's half sister. I have pictures of John, Bettie, Florence and her husband Joseph Littlefield. Please still be out there!
Bozeman Mays is also my ggggrandfather. His grandson George W. Mays mother was Malissa Mays. Alot of people has Malissa listed as Bozeman father but I'm not so sure of this. Malissa Mays had a son by the name of George W. in 1852, George married a Jemima O. and named their 1st son Avery Stephenson Mays in Franklin. Avery Stephenson moved his family to Texas in the early 1900's.

Hi, My gggrandfather was Hiram Mayes, supposedly born in Sumner Co. Tenn., in 1828. I have not been able to connect him to anyone back past the 1860 Census, but on one of his marriage certificates he stated that he was born in that county. The names mentioned in the message board are the names he gave his children, and some of his grandchildren. I really hope we can find a connection somewhere. We think maybe his first wife was Ellendor Meador,in Sumner Co.. Grainger Co. is close to Sumner so please if you or anyone else knows anything about Hiram or his family please let me know. Thanks you

Always looking,
Glenda Mayes
