Hi - This is not in my Mayhall line, but perhaps what information I have on this will help you.

California death records show -

1- Sarah Elizabeth Aleshire, b. 27 June 1855 Iowa,
died 14 July 1945 in Los Angeles.

2- Roscoe Murfin Aleshire, b. 17 June 1874 MO,
died 14 July 1945 Los Angeles.

3- (?) Ira T. Aleshire, b. 24 Sept. 1880 Colorado,
died 2 Feb. 1940 Los Angeles.

Sarah Elizabeth Mayhall Aleshire -- daughter of George Harrison Mayhall and Elizabeth Grigsby. George Harrison and Elizabeth were married 1 January 1849 in Gibson Co., Indiana.

George Harrison's parents - Timothy Mayhall, Jr. and Elizabeth Hanks.

This information (and more) gathered from various sources,
NONE of it verified by me, but appears to be correct.

Email me at arkomavalley@juno.com if you would like more of what I have on this line.

Am looking for information on just who this Sarah E. Mayhall was. I know from family information that she was born June 27, 1855 in Missouri. I know that her mother's name was Elizabeth and that she was born about 1829 in Indiana and died in 1894 in Divide, Teller County, Colorado. Sarah & David were married on May 4, 1873 in Putnam County, Indiana and most likely they both died in Colorado. Their children were: Roscoe M., Alcy (son), Ira A., Archie V., Otis Ethereal, Ovid R.M., and Emilie M. Alcy died at the age of 3 months, Otis at the age of about 28 and Ovid at the age of 5 years. That is about all I know of this family, so if anyone has any information to connect with this family, please contact me.

I don't think I will be taking up where my dad left off - I have five school-aged kids that keep me pretty busy. I will tell my dad I found this website and see if he recalls communicating with you or can provide some insight into further research on the Mayhall family. He still gets around slowly and his memory is really not too bad (just sort of unpredictable sometimes). Thank you for your message.

Thanks so much Karen,
My ggm-Francis ? b/abt/1800 ? N.C. m/Duke (Marmaduke) Allen abt/1810. I am trying to find her maiden name. Some say that she is Catherine Francis Mayhall. She indicates on several census that she was b/N.C. After marriage to Duke, they may have lived in TN early 1810-1820, then Jackson, Marshall, Marion, and Walker Co. AL. I have some of the children if that would help.
I would appreciate any info you could provide on this family.
Thanks, Glenda

The email address you are referring to is no longer being used either. He had given me a family tree a while back and I can look for it if it would be of any help.

Karen (Mayhall) Best

Susan and Julia Mayhall; John R. Thompson,Gibson and Knox, Indiana

I'm looking for the family of an Andrew Thompson, possibly the son of Ephraim and Margaret Thompson who were early settlers in Daviess County, IN.

In 1850 Andrew Thompson married Harriet Degan of Wabash County, IL; she was daughter of Henry and Jane Lauvellette Degan both of Vincennes, In. They had two children: Henry R. b 1852, and Laura Ann, b 1854. They both disappear by the 1860 census.

In the 1860 census, Andrew Thompson's daughter, Laura, b 1854, is living in Wabash Co, IL with her mother's parents, Henry and Jane Degan. Her older brother Henry R. Thompson, b 1852,is not with her. There is however a Henry R. Thompson age 9, living with Samuel R. Alexander and his wife Dorcas Alexander, b 1811, in Knox County, IN. There is also a young Mayhall girl, Julia, who may have been Susan Mayhall's sister? The connection here is with Gibson Co, IN, where a John R. Thompson is married to a Susan Mayhall.

Dorcas Alexander's maiden name was Thompson, then she married Minard Smith, and after being widowed, married Samuel R. Alexander, widowed son in law of Rev Scott of the Presb. church. Samuel Alexander became the Pres Church minister after Scott in Knox Co, Vincennes.

Dorcas was born in S.C. and then lived in Daviess Co with Minard Smith, then Knox Co with Samuel Alexander where we find her in 1860. In the 1850 census is a John Thompson, b 1801 also in SC; living with him is his mother Margaret, b Maryland, 1783. John has a son named Ephraim. This Ephraim as a young man, goes on to CA to work on gold mines and his letters have been preserved. He eventually returns to Daviess Co and marries Eliza someone, I think the girl he left behind, and they have one child, Martha (Mattie) before Eliza dies. By 1870 Ephraim is living with his parents John and Elizabeth, with his 11 year old daughter in Washington, Daviess Co, IN. Ephraim, b 1834, becomes a successful merchant in Washington. His daughter Mattie marries a J.C. Lavelle, deputy auditor of Daviess Co, eloping against her father's wishes, but she is 20 or so then, per the Daveiss Co Democrat newspaper.

Now I think that Margaret, John's mother, Ephraim's grandmother, is the widow of an Ephraim Thompson who was an early settler in Daviess County, per Goodspeed's book. Ephraim Thompson is in the 1830 census, age 50-60. His youngest male then was 10-15, who could have been my Andrew. His wife was 40-50 (Margaret would have been 47). They also have a daughter of the right age to be Dorcas. The brother John Thompson is already out of the house since he was 29. This older Ephraim Thompson was an elder of the Presb. Church in 1814 in Daviess. He was also a Daviess Co commissioner for many years. He was in Commers Fort.

So I'm seeing the link between these Ephraim Thompsons and Andrew Thompson based on Henry R. Thompson, boy same age as Andrew's son Henry R. Thompson, living with Dorcas Alexander who was a Thompson, and may have been Ephraim and Margaret Thompson's daughter, sister of John, and maybe sister of Andrew?? It's a stretch, but nothing else has worked so far...

I would appreciate any assistance or info.

Brandy,

Hi, My husband Wayne Mayhall is the great-grandson of Ambrose Dudley Mayhalll. We live about an hour or so from where he is buried and we keep his grave up. His grave is also registered as a National Cemetery as he as a Veteren of the Civil War. We were also told by some people living in the area that they believe that there is also a young girl buried in the same place. Although I have not been able to proof this I do know that Ambrose and Elizabeth had a daughter who died at a young age. Happy to share info.

Lynda Hammons Mayhall

William Mayhall from Ireland?

I found a reference from an historical book about a George Elloit Mayhall who is a son of Samuel W. and Louisa (Alsop)Mayhall, born 9/24/1834; his father was a son of William Mayhall, a soldier of the war of 1812-14 and came to this state in 1830 from Franklin Co., KY where he was born; the father of William Mayhall was from Ireland and settled in Virginia. Would this be the same William who married Margaret Lenderman?

LAMMON is the older brother of my 3rd Great Grandfather.
The Sarah E. Johnisee that married a James M. Mayhall 16 Jan 1868 in Greene Co.Ill. I thought was Sarah LAMMON first married to John W. Johnisee, then widowed married the James above. But James middle initial of M. must have been a mistake.(Illinois Marriage Records has the initial as M.) This Sarah was to young to be my Sarah if she was born in 1858. So that solves that.
Gloria

Washington County, Indiana Mayhall's

I am looking for any information on the Mayhall family of Washington County, Indiana. There was a Benjamin Mayhall and a Hiram Mayhall that moved there from Kentucky about 1830. My ancestor was Nancy Catherine Mayhall who married Abraham Phillips. They later moved to Caldwell County, Missouri.

I am not certain but believe that Benjamin had several sons, including James and Joseph.

Any information will be appreciated.

Dewayne Perry
