PASSING OF A VET AT SOLDIERS' HOME

W.J. Maynor, Formerly of Durham, Died
Yesterday Afternoon at Raleigh

W.J. Maynor, Age 82, one of the surviving veterans of the civil war, died last evening at 6:30 o'clock, at the Soldier's Home in Raleigh. He formerly resided in this city with his son, A.A. Maynor, 516 Carr Street, but had been in the home for some time. He was a former member of the First Baptist church of this city and a wide circle of friends will hear of his death with deep regret.

He is survived by four sons: A.A. Maynor of Durham; A.E. Maynor of Hendersonville; W.M. Maynor of Carthage; C.J. Maynor of Cleveland, Ohio; also two daughters, Mrs. W.L. Hogshire of Norfolk, Va.; and Mrs. C.A. McKenzie, of
Rockingham, NC; and a number of grand children and great grand children.

Members of his family will leave the city early this morning for Raleigh, and the remains will be carried to Carthage, where the funeral and burial will take place Saturday about noon.

(NOTE: William Judson Maynor was born 6-17-1845 in either Moore or Chatham County. He was married to Mary Ann Phillips of Chatham/Moore counties. Mr. Maynor served with his brother Joseph in the Civil War ~ Co. E, 44th Infantry
"Chatham County Turtle Paws." He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs.Martin Davis (Theany/Thenia MANESS) of Moore County; his brother, Joseph Maynor of Durham; and his parents, William and Chloe Phillips Maynor of
Chatham County. Mr. Maynor is "presumed" to be buried beside his wife in an unmarked grave at Cool Springs Methodist Church in Glendon. One of his sons,W.M. Maynor, was a merchant and farmer in Putnam, Moore County and went by the name of William (Will) MANESS.)
