Peter W. "Pete" Mazak
Peter W. "Pete" Mazak, 83, formerly of Springdale, Pa., died Friday, July 16, 2010, at Sarah Reed Retirement Center, 227 W. 22nd St., Erie. He was born Oct. 20, 1926, in Springdale, son of the late Anton and Ludwika Potyra Mazak. A 1944 graduate of Springdale High School, he attended the University of Pittsburgh and was a Veteran of WW II having served with the Merchant Marines. Mr. Mazak worked for Gulf Research, Harmarville, Pa. for 35 years retiring in 1981. He was a member and past secretary of Krivan Hall Assoc., and a member of Jednota Assoc., all in Springdale. He was a Springdale Boro Councilmen from 1976 to 1980, serving as president from 1978 to 1980. He enjoyed gardening and was known for his excellent tomatoes. He enjoyed his hunting camp in Tidioute, his hunting beagles and locating and eating wild mushrooms. He was an avid Walleye fisherman and Steeler and Penguins fan. A devoted son, he lived with and cared for his mother until her death in 2003 and has resided in Erie since 2007.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Stella Mazak. Survivors include a sister, Mary M. Timashenka and husband Dr. Paul Timashenka of Edinboro, Pa.;
a brother, Anthony Mazak and wife Lois of Cheswick, Pa.; eight nieces and nephews; twelve grandnieces and grandnephews; two great-grandnephews; a great-grandniece and several cousins. Friends may call Tuesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Jarvie Funeral Home, 801 Pittsburgh St., Springdale, Pa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 750 Pittsburgh St., Springdale, Pa., celebrated by the Rev. George Salanda. Burial with military honors will be at Deer Creek Cemetery, Harmar Twp., Pa. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Local arrangements have been entrusted to the Scott Funeral Home, 2104 Myrtle St.
