William & Mildred McAdoo were my great grandparents. My mother was Toni Brock, daughter of Virginia McAdoo. Which in turn was the daughter of William & Mildred.
It is such a delight to find some relatives. All of my immediate family is now deceased. Mildred (little grandma as we called her) passed away November 4, 2003....she was 103 years old.
Please do reply back if you are related to any of these people, then you are related to me as well.

I am Dean McAdoo, nephew of William Reese. He was my Dad's older brother. My Dad was George Nolan. They were both sons of George Henry.
McAdoo Township is located about 5 miles South of Coats, Kansas. It was named for William Reese's Grandfather William James. I was raised in Coats, Kansas and didn't leave until I graduated from high school. I knew Uncle Bill and Aunt Mid (William Reese and Mildred) very well as they lived a number of years in Coats. In fact, they lived there more than once.
How do you connect back to William Reese? I probably have quite a bit of info which you are welcome to.
Dean McAdoo

Tammy, how are you? I have added many braches to my tree, but still cannot find the root that leads to ancestors of Elijah Jefferson McAdoo and Fannie Lively. My sister and I are going to OK, Ark, and Mo. this summer. Who knows maybe we will stumble onto something.
Hope all is well with you and that you have survived the violent weather we have had this year. We were hit by the tornado in April, but are all ok.
Your McAdoo Cousin from Arlington, Tx
Mary Gallagher McAdoo on the 1901 Rosskirk, Co. Donegal Census

Looking for any information about Mary Gallagher McAdoo, wife of Samuel and sister to my grandfather Thomas Gallagher (he came to the US from Co. Donegal). I don't know what her birthdate would be, but Thomas' was 16 Nov 1877 (and he died 13 Nov 1941 in Camden Co., NJ). So Mary would be within a few years of 1877.
Piecing together clues from old letters, I was able to find her on the 1901 Rosskirk, Co. Donegal Census with her husband Sam and their children, Fanny, Annie, & Samuel.
There's mention of a relation with a Daniel Gallagher and a connection to the Campbell family (who all live near these McAdoos & Gallaghers).
I don't think any of these people emigrated to the US (just Thomas who settled in the Philadelphia area).
I know this is pretty skimpy info, but I'm throwing it out there to see it Mary & Sam McAdoo sounds familiar to anyone.
Thanks for any help,
Barb Selletti
We all have reached the Elijah/Fannie brick wall. I do however believe that our McAdoo ancestors came through the Carolinas, not the Pennsylvania McAdoo's. The reason being historical timing. Since Elijah was born in1790 in the US, then his family was here before the 2nd potato famine in Ireland. Therefore, they are most likely from one of the 2 McAdoo brothers who came to South Carolina in the 18th century. Most of the PA McAdoo's came in the 19th century. I am currently trying to work forward from these brother's trees. Possibly one branch that may be ours is a Samuel McAdoo who left the Carolinas and left no records, as yet discovered by me. Good luck.

If you are searching for Native American ancestry, it will be very difficult for many reasons, mostly due to inaccurate data collections both by collectors and by those giving information. Many of our ancestors married Native Americans, but denied their heritage because of how they were treated by society. I am related to Elijah McAdoo & Fannie Lively also, through Elijah Green and Martha Jane Wood. I believe, but have not been able to prove that Mary Jane's mother, Sarah Catherine Shoebird is full blood Native American. She would be Alma Myrtle McAdoo's grandmother. Is that the Alma you speaking of?

Hi Barbara,

Thank you for your reply.
The George Parker I am looking for is born around September or October 1909. He was the oldest son of Maggie & Lewis.
I found him on the Census of 1910 in Comanche county Texas.
After their mom died, they were supposed to go to a foster house. George ran away and was never heard of anymore.
His youngest brother was the grandfather to my childrens dad.
I keep looking out if I find some information that could help you I sure will be happy to share.
I really don't know anything about those other Horaces. I found that the LDS website has some interesting information on there, if one can believe some of it. I understand there has to be documentation to backup the posts, but, who knows. After my father died my brother took all the geneology records my Dad had, so, I really don't have any information at my fingertips. I retired last year and have been toying with the idea of starting fresh with the geneology of our clan. Lots of websites for the McAdoo's, seems we are all interested in our ancestors. The only thing I have left from Dad is some photos. I am interested in the information you might have. I am sure you have plenty and it would be interesting to read what you have.

Kirsten --

Hello, cousin! I am the granddaughter of Clarence McAdoo, Horace's older brother. That makes us second cousins. I once corresponded briefly with your brother Richard but we fell out of touch.

Can you tell me more about the Horaces in Michigan and Arkansas? I collect info on as many McAdoos as I can, on the theory that we are all descended from the same clan in Scotland/Ireland and thus all cousins.

I have an Arkansas family, but no Horace within it. Maybe the Michigan Horace is from the Barnett Alexander McAdoo line, which I believe to be headed by a son of Barnett, Sr., hopefully by a first wife.

Have you ever had the opportunity to go to Hickman County to view the records in the courthouse there? I visited Carroll County's courthouse many years ago and got confirmation that Levi Pinkney 'Pink' McAdoo was, indeed, the son of Barnett, Sr. It is part of a court case dividing the estate of Barnett and Frances on the occasion of Frances' death. I've always wondered if there are similar nuggets in Hickman County.

I'm happy to share what I have, from the children of Joel and Rachel backwards three generations and coming forward on some lines. Let me know if you'd like to hear more.

My name is Kirsten McAdoo, Lester Guinn McAdoo's daughter and Horace McAdoo's granddaughter. I found two other Horace McAdoo's listed on the LDS website (familysearch.org). One in Michigan and one in Arkansas. This person must be a decendant of one of them.

Your Frances Murphree is not the woman who married Barnett McAdoo. That Frances Murphree was born before 1785 and died in 1869. Her father was Levi Murphree, Sr., and her grandfather was Daniel Murphree. She had brothers, Levi Murphree, Jr., Elijah, Daniel, Caleb, and Elisha.

It appears to me that you are looking for a different line. But the Barnett McAdoo line is definitely not the right one.

Re: McAdoo Clan Migration: Scotland–Ireland–America

My line came from county Cavan and/or Derry. The first one to come to the US was John McAdoo (b. 1794 in Ireland). He married Ann Moore in Co Derry, and they came to the US via a whaling ship in 1847 with their two children Robert and Sarah. They lived in NYC until John died in 1855. John's son Robert died of disease in the civil war. He is my g-g-g grandfather. Sarah married Timothy Waters, and they lived in New York state, and later New Jersey.
John is listed on many public trees as being the son of Martha Grills, but this is not possible since there was no one from this branch in the US prior to John and Ann.
I remember my grandfather saying something about William Gibbs McAdoo being his father's second cousin, but I'm not sure if he just meant that he was a more distant relative than cousin.

I really can not give you any help. However, this morning, I am looking for the same information. I seem to be a direct decendent of Patrick and Lillis. Would be obliged if you can share any thing you find & I will do the same. I hit the jackpot with the Jack family at familytreemaker.genealogy.com. I have run into several sites that show Patrick emigrating in 1730. But, after 280 years, 10 years an't much. Good hunting!

Macon S Jack
