Mary Mulick / Mulyck McCabe --> Ireland to Wisconsin

Mary came to the US with her parents, James and Margaret Mulick / Mulyck in 1849. Her brother, Bernard, also made the trip. In 1861, she married James McCabe in Wisconsin. He was born in 1835 in Knockbridge, Baleborough, County Cavan, Ireland, and died in 1909 in Winona, Minnesota. They lived in Glencoe, Buffalo County for many years. Their children were: John Edward, Cathrina, Mary, Margaret Ann, Julia, James William, Daphna, Charles Henry, Rose, Daniel George, and Leo Patrick. Mary was last found in the 1920 census, living in Eau Claire, WI with her daughter, Margaret McCabe Flynn. Would love to find out what happened to her after that, and trace roots back to Ireland...or to compare notes about any of the descendants of her children :)

With out more information, I'd say no. The McCabes that are in Le Sueur Minnesota (at least my clan) are from around Monasterboice, Louth, Ireland. Thomas & Julia O'Byrne McCabe are the parents to most. They also came to the US with their adult children. I checked on my tree and didn't see any McGuire or Gilmartin families.
But that doesn't mean that there is a connection somewhere.
M

Are your McCabes related to John McCabe and spouse Julia McGuire ? Both John (1820 - 1887) and Julia (1815 - 1897) were born in Ireland. Their daughter Anna McCabe (1856 - 1929) married my G grandfather on father's side, Patrick Gilmartin ((1848 - 1901). Both of them were born in Eagle, Wyoming, NY. Anna had several siblings, and I think all of them moved on to Minn with other McGuires. Is this the McCabe family you are connected to ?

Hi. There are several Patrick and Rose McCabes in New York City in the 1860 era (see censuses and immigration lists). My Thomas McCabe (1830-aft. 1864) married about 1854 probably in NYC to Ann Riley (sic)(probably Reilly). As you likely know, most McCabes and Reillys are from Cavan and Monaghan Counties. I am just starting my search there.

Bernard McCabe Holyoke, Ma 1912

Seeking info on Bernard McCabe B. abt 1879 in Ireland. He's the possible father for an out of wedlock birth (Bridget McCabe Doocey B. 13 Jan 1912.)
In 1912, Bernard and Bridget McCabe (Son and Mother) were living at 18 Ely St, Holyoke, Ma.
In 1912 Mary Doocey was living at 18 Ely St, Holyoke, Ma (she also went by the last name Ducey)
On 13 Jan 1912 Mary Doocey gave birth to a child out of wedlock who she named (Bridget McCabe Doocey) and listed 18 Ely St as her address. On the birth record she listed no father but used “McCabe” as the middle name for her daughter (Bridget). I thought that was an odd name for a girl until I looked into the location of Mary and Bernard..
Bernard/Burnett McCabe/McKabe and wife Ann are in the 1860 Forreston, Ogle Co., IL census with children Bernard Jr., John, Mary Ann and Catherine. Family then moved to Kansas for the 1870 census, then to Iowa where daughter Catherine married Ed Spratt in Iowa Co. Iowa in 1879. His brother William Spratt married Catherines sister Mary Ann McCabe, also in Iowa Co.,Iowa. William Spratt family stayed in Iowa Co., Edward's family moved to Otoe Co. Nebraska before 1880 to be with father Bernard McCabe Sr. (b. 1834) and new wife Bridget(Welsh)were. Everyone in this family were farmers.

John McCabe married Lena Buchholz Renn in Otoe Co, Nebr in 1904, his marriage cert. says he was born in Forreston, Ogle Co. IL which is backed up by the census.

"Karstar":
I have extensive records of one James McCabe family in Allegheny County, PA, and in Moon township. This James H. McCabe is a son of William McCabe, and grandson of Owen McCabe, 1740's immigrant from County Tyrone, Ireland. I was hoping to find a connection from my records to your Mary A. McCabe, but unfortunately, my extensive records (about 75 pages+ about this William McCabe family) do NOT include a Mary A. McCabe, who could be your ancestor, Mary Ann McCabe. At least you know now that your Mary A. McCabe is NOT a descendant of one of William McCabe's sons.

Thanks so much for answering my message so quickly. In the 1850 census John and Mary Ann Umbarger were living in Pittsburgh Ward 8, Allegheny County, PA with all 5 of their children (although the oldest Sarah Umbarger Hale/Haley and her husband and the youngest John Alexander Umbarger are enumerated on the following page of the census.) Most of the Umbarger/Umbergers in PA at that time seem to be related to each other. I think my John, born in 1805, is the son of Leonard Umberger (1777-1844) who died in Westmoreland County PA. Westmoreland County is a neighbor of Allegheny County and both Sarah and John A. had Westmoreland County locales for later events in their lives. I can track the family pretty well after 1850--it's the earlier history I'm having trouble with. Thanks so much for trying to help me.

Concerning Mary Ann (McCabe) Umberger, I believe that I have found her in the 1860 Federal Pennsylvania census. In Pittsburgh, Ward 7, Allegheny County, PA, is a listing of John Alexr. Umberger, age 15, son of John (age 56) and Mary A. (age 48) Umberger. Further, in the 1830 Federal Census of Allegheny County, Moon Twp., I found a listing for "Jas. McCabe", who has one "free white female", age 15 - 17. This possibly may be your Mary A. McCabe. At least you have a location to start some additional research. Jim

In the 1830 Federal Census of Pennsylvania, only "Michal Umberger" is listed and he is in Somerset County. In the 1840 Federal Census of Pennsylvania, two possibilities exist: "Johns Umbarger" in Cumberland County, PA, and "John Umbarger" in Dauphin County, PA. Are either of these a possibility for the husband of Mary Ann McCabe? Do you know the names of the children for John and Mary Ann Umbarger? If so, they may possibly be listed in the 1850 census of Pennsylvania.
Jim

Jim

Nine different counties are are listed as having McCabe familes (with that specific surname spelling)in Pennsylvania for the 1820 Federal Census. The counties listed are Allegheny, Philadelphia, Cumberland, Lebanon, Huntingdon, Dauphin, Wayne, Cambria, and Mifflin. Do you have any idea where your Mary Ann McCabe was living in 1820?

Jim

I'm looking for information about Mary Ann McCabe who was born in Pennsylvania about 1812 and married John Umbarger/Umberger (1805-1865). They had at least 5 children--one was my great grandfather John Alexander Umbarger (1845-1889). I have found nothing about her parents and I'm not even sure that there were any McCabes in Pennsylvania in 1812. I would really appreciate any help with this.

He purchased the farm from the Church of Ireland on May 1, 1878. His son, Felix McCabe, was born on the farm in 1848. Felix's son (my great grandfather), Bernard McCabe, was also born in the same location (baptism record from the Diocese of Kilmore, Fermanagh, Ireland), but died in 1952 in Clydebank, Old Kilpatrick, Dunbarton, Scotland.
Hello, I know it's been a good twelve and a half years since you've posted this, but perhaps you'll still be able to see it. I have a Robert Waters, born to Robert Waters and Catherine (Katy) Hennigan (Henegan, Hinegan, etc) in Cork, Ireland around 1886-1887. He came to the US around 1908 and in 1910 was staying with his brother Sylvester in Woburn, Mass. I lose track of him thereafter, but a note left on genealogical notes of my great-aunt (who has been deceased for 18 years now) says that his wife was Delia. I see census records for this Robert and Delia Waters in Providence, and I came across a birth record of a stillborn of Robert Waters and Delia McCabe in Providence in 1930. So, if you have any information that might help clarify this for me, I would be happy. Or perhaps, this will enlighten you, or someone else, either now or yeas from now when they read this message.

Rose is a girl's name found a few times in the McEntee tree. So, where did your Rose Ann McEntee emigrate to in the US? and when?

I'm trying to find a needle in what seems like a haystack.

Thomas McCabe (My Great Grandfather) was born to Patrick McCabe and Rose Ann McEntee.

I know they were both alive in 1906 for their son's wedding, and dead before he died in 1958. I suspect they immigrated to Scotland from Ireland because I can't seem to find Thomas' birth record in the Scottish records.

I can't find anything on his parents either. But again, I'm aware irish records are somewhat incomplete and its possibel I wont have any headway unless I go to the churches they could've registered at in Ireland if my suspicions are correct.

I was hoping to find someone who may have a connection with this branch of my rather patrick-filled family tree. I don't have the budget sadly, (I'm still paying for post secondary schooling) to access ancestry's files. I have a few credits left on another prominent Scottish source, but I haven't had much luck there.)

Here's hoping someone changes my luck!
