In reference to your great-uncle John McCaddin. Do you have contact with his children, your mother's first cousins? I am currently writing a history of the NYS Troopers PBA as my capacity as President of that association. John McCaddin was an early PBA Delegate in the 1940s and one of the more active members. This was pre-Taylor Law in New York and there was no union recognition for Troopers and as such, PBA officials were at the mercy of their bosses. McCaddin was confined to the Hawthorne barracks and made to do hard labor for 102 straight days with the ultimatum - give up his PBA membership or resign from the State Police. He did neither. He went on Educational Leave utilizing the GI Bill, put himself through law school and returned as the PBA General Counsel until 1969. My hope is that some of his personnel papers fom his PBA days still survive. Thank you. Tom Mungeer tmungeer@nystpba.org.

Hi sorry for the late reply, I am just seeing this now. I am a Henry McCaddin (but not the one you are looking for). I am the son of Henry, who was the son of Henry, who was the brother of Walter. My grandfather died when my father was very young. My son Jim found the Henry that I believe you are looking for - on Facebook. He has corresponded with him. If you have a Facebook account, you can get to him by using this web address:

www.facebook.com/henry.mccaddin

If you don't have a Facebook account, reply and I will try to have my son get you some contact information.
My mothers name is Johannah Scully nie McCaddin. She is 88 yrs old. She is alive and living in Merrick N.Y. Her fathers name was Walter McCaddin. He was bprn in Brooklyn N.Y. He worked for the N.Y. C. Police Dept. from the late 1920's until 1951, when he retired as a Sargeant. He then went on to work for Grumman Aerospace for fifteen years. He was the oldest of four brothers. He had one brother named Henry(named after their father Henry), and two half brothers, Andrew & John McCaddin. I believe Henry died in his thirties. Their father was Henry McCaddin owner of McCaddin & Sons funeral home in Brooklyn. As per my Mother when Henry retired the funeral parlor passed on to his third son, Andrew. Andrew owned it for a number of years and it was passed on to his son, Henry. Henry McCaddin sold the funeral home aprx. fifteen years ago. This Henry, son of Andrew, was my mothers first cousin. I am wondering if he is still alive. He was my mother's first cousin and my mother asked me to find ou if he is still living? When I was young I visited my grandfathers brothers home in Cole Spring Harbor, N.Y. His name was John McCaddin. He was an attorney and retired N.Y. State Trooper.

Henry:

Thanks for your message! The info you shared matches information in my database. From what info I've gathered Henry J. McCaddin (your great grandfather) married Hanna (Scully?) b. 1866 and had two sons as you've noted - Walter and Henry V.. His second wife was Mary L. Carr b. 1878 with whom he had the two sons Andrew and John Henry. I also note that Henry J. McCaddin had two brothers Daniel b. 1867 and William b. 1868 as well as a sister Mary Ann b. 1865. I show Henry J. McCaddin's father as Daniel McCaddin b. 1824 in Donegal, Ireland who married Isabella Brogan b. 1830. The information I have needs more research and validation as census records alone give Daniel three different birth years.

Unfortunately I still cannot figure where my McCaddin ancestors connect but I do suspect there is a connection as my great great grandfather John McCaddin b. 1835 in Ireland shows up in the Brooklyn, NY census in 1860.

Bob and all, I can add some to this... My name is Henry. My father, grandfather and great grandfather were all Henry's (some with a middle name of Vincent). Great grandfather built the funeral home, I believe. His sons were Henry and Walter with a first wife and Andrew and John with a second wife (first wife died). My grandfather died before great granddad died and we lost track of most of the family. I can get the names of Henry's two wives. Would be very interested in helping to build the family tree. Would also like to see anything ancestry before great granddad Henry.

Kathy:

I have put together quite a bit of the McCaddin family tree in the US from census data and a few other online resources. If you are related to Henry who owned the funeral home then you are probably well aware of this being the 50th anniversary of the tragic plane crash in Brooklyn. Today's NYT features another installment of the story and it includes a photo taken by your grandfather's brother Henry. Check out: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/tag/park-slope-plane-crash...

If you can let me know your father and grandfather's name I may be able to make the connection to my family. Names of any of your father or grandfather's siblings would help a great deal.

-Bob Ritger
www.ritger.com/genealogy

To be quite honest, now I'm confused. My grandfather (Andrew J. McCaddin)was the brother of John McCaddin, who was married to Jane. They lived in Cold Springs Harbor. If I am not mistaken they may have been half brothers. You are correct, Henry is my father and the son of Andrew. Let me ask you, did your mom and dad have a St. Bernard named Christopher?

My grandmother was Cecilia Agnes McCaddin b. 1896 in Bloomfield, NJ. I can trace back only as far as her father, George Washington Dominic McCaddin b. 1850. I'm looking for more information on George and any connection that will link to relatives in the US or Ireland/Scotland. George married Johanna Theresa Murray and lived in Bloomfield, NJ.

I've found only a few McCaddin's in my searches including a few in NY that own a funeral home. Are we related?
