Wayne McCall 1956-1972 in NJ

I'm looking for information on Wayne McCall of Moorestown, New Jersey. He lived in Moorestown his whole life, but I am having a hard time finding any information about him, including where he is buried. His parents were Gilbert McCall (born and died in South Carolina) and Mary Jane Ellis (born and died in New Jersey). Mary Jane Ellis-McCall is buried in Locustwood Cemetery in Cherry Hill, NJ, but Wayne is not buried there. Wayne's siblings are still living, but I feel it is inappropriate to ask them about his death, especially because he died from sniffing rubber cement in his basement. If I could find information about him without asking them, that would be great. He was attending Moorestown High School when he died, but I have not found anything from the high school regarding Wayne. Thanks in advance for any help.

Jill Hurley, NJ

Am still looking for my ancestors, including James McCall, sr. They settled in Chautauqua, Westfield, NY. Some of the earliest were Perservid, Wesely (aka Wisely), Ira, James. The matriarch who came to the U.S. was Charlotte (Sharlotte). One portion of the family moved to Oak Creek, Wisconsin. James, jr, married Emma (Amy) Tupper in 1829 in Westfield, NY. I'd appreciate any information on this portion of the McCalls. I don't know if they're tied into the McCall who was captured by the Indians. Thanks. Gail T.

Hi Megan,
As you learned, there are many McCall lines. My paternal grandma was Belle McCall. These go back to James McCall b. Chautauqua, NY, 1796 and even earlier, his father, also James, b. about 1768, NY. His McCalls seemed to have come from Scotland.
However, there are McCalls who were captured and brought to U.S. as kind of slaves (not Afro-American). I don't know a whole lot about that line but it's an interesting one. Then there are the McCalls tied to the McConnell family. I suggest you keep going online. After a long time of searching, I found several family ancestors I'd been looking for. People DO keep adding news.
There are some MCCalls, by the way, who came from Glasgow, Ireland as well. Some were Scots-Irish. Good luck in your hunt. Gail

Abraham (or Abram) McCall born abt 1806 in Ontario, Canada; Died in 1866 in Lee County, IL, USA

I am seeking birth information about Abraham (or Abram) McCall. He was born around 1806 in Ontario, Canada (perhaps in Hamilton, Wentworth County). Abraham immigrated to the USA shortly after 1850 with his children (unsure of wife): Ellen, Samuel, Ananias, Katherine, Avilla, and Alexander (who my wife descends from). Abraham died in 1866 in Sublette, Lee County, Illinois. After that, his children seemed to moved on to Kansas and Missouri, among other places out West. There are several McCalls buried in Wentworth County, Ontario but I do not know if any of them are Abraham's parents. James and Jean McCall, buried in Hamilton Cemetery, seem to have been of child-bearing age when Abraham was born (James was granted land there in 1802, 1806, and 1816), but I don't know if these are his parents. Any information about this family would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

McCall/McCoy Family Bible for McCalls from Norfolk, Ontario?

I am researching the descendants of Donald McCall (1735-1819) from Scotland. He settled in Norfolk County, Ontario, Canada. His son, Daniel, had several children: Mary, Daniel, William, John, Duncan, and others. I have been told that there is a Family Bible that belonged to Daniel's son, William, and his wife, Elizabeth (McCoy) McCall. Supposedly, this Bible has a lot of information about this family, and I was wondering if anyone has any idea of the location of information from this Bible. I believe William and Elizabeth moved to Michigan after living in Ontario. Any information would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

I am seeking information regarding the parentage of my ancestor, John McCall, who was born 1807 in South Carolina and died 1893 in Buffalo, Missouri, where he practiced medicine for many years. He married Jane (Jency) A. Blackshear in Tennessee in 1835. They had 12 children. According to family lore, he was of Scottish descent. Any information would be appreciated.

Re: McCall - Scotland or Ireland

The McCall surname is Scottish in origin, and this website will show you the etymology of this name if you search for it. The reason you have been hearing that it is from Ireland is probably because many McCalls would have been Ulster Scots, or Scottish people who lived on English plantations in Northern Ireland beginning in the 17th century. Now referred to as the "Scotch Irish," these scottish peoples immigrated in large numbers to the U.S. during the Famine, because it hit Ulster Scots sometimes as hard as rural Catholics, since Ulster Scots were Presbyterian "dissenters," little better in the eyes of the Anglican Church than Catholics. Their freedoms were severly imited in Ireland until after the Famine, and many immigrated to the U.S. So although your McCall ancestors may have lived in Ireland, they are of Scottish origin.
