The death date I have for Ernest D. McCalla: 1883-Feb 17, 1996 (I dont know if this is correct info or not, I found this and most of my info through ancestry).

My Grand father's (Paul) mother was Golda Zumwalt- She married Ernest D. McCalla. Golds was born in 1887 in Iroquois, IL. She died Dec. 26th, 1944. I know her death date is correct b/c my grandfather told me he was in WWII, and was wounded. His mother Golda rcvd. a telegram that her son was wounded, and didnt know any other info about him. She became so distressed, that she passed away before he came back home from recovering from his wounds.
If you want to know Erenst and Golda's childrens names, I can give you that as well.

About John McCalla- I dont have any concrete info about him- I did a family tree, and ancestry gave me a hint.

If you have any websites that have been helpful, please let me know :)
Do you happen to have any older photos of our shared relatives?
Kellie_2131@hotmail.com

Donna, here is what I have in my family tree. Not sure if it will help:

About 1781, David McCalla (b: abt.1752 in Cullybacky, Ire., d: 11/01/1826, Chester Cty, S.C.) married Mary Adair Nixon (b: abt 1755, d:11/16/1807) in Chester County, S.C.. They had 4 children. One was Elizabeth who married Robert Peden in South Carolina.

That's it. Hope it helps.

Alexander McCAULEY/McCALLA, b. Ireland, 1743?

Hello, List!

I’m descended from an Alexander McCAULEY, whose daughter Jane married Henry DYKE or DYCHE, in Virginia in about 1797.

I have seen in some records that this Alexander was born in Armagh County, Ireland, in 1743.

Someone with the e-mail address “mkerr1678@aol.com” posted 1743 as Alexander’s date of birth and his children (in no particular order) as David, Thomas, Kesiah, William, Jemima, Andrew, James, Alexander, Hugh, Jane, and John. I believe that all the children were born in the US, the first few in Pennsylvania, according to Mary Kerr, above.

I have no idea when Alexander McCAULEY emigrated from Armagh to the US, and would like to know. Also -- who was his wife? Sarah ___________?

Anybody have connections?

Thanks,
EB

Kellie, it looks like we have some family in common. Your G-grandfather Ernest D.McCalla had four other brothers, one was Earl Albert bn:1881 died 1940. He was my Grandfather. The other brothers were oldest John William 1876-1932, Wesley David bn:1889, no death date. and Porter Fred bn. 1895- no death date. I do have Ernest middle inital as "S" rather than "D".
Your question on Samuel Albert, he was married to Anneretta Van Camp bn:7,Aug.1856 in Illinois, died 25,May,1926 in Hoopeston, Illinois. My mother Mildred M. McCalla was born in Hoopeston in 1912.
Ernest was bn: 5, sept,1883, in Tazewell Co., Illinois, I do not have a death date or location if you have please forward.
Was not aware of his wife Golda, do you have her birth/death info!
You are missing the father of James McCalla. That was James Burbidge McCalla bn:1769 died 1845. do not have wifes name.
James McCalla (married Hannah Mears bn:1,jan,1807 Bracken,Ky. Died19,Oct,1992, Pontiac, Illinois

What is source of info on John McCalla (1736-1814)!! My information is the father of James was John McCalley (named changed to McCalla), born 1746, Worchester, Maryland, died
23 April,1845 Aberdeen, Brown, Ohio.

Robert M. McCalla sailed from Belfast, Ireland 12 Oct 1817 on the ship CYRUS, commanded by Capt. Gossard, and landed at Charleston, SC on 30 Nov 1817. He moved directly to Newberry, SC where he lived the balance of his life.

His father was Samuel McCalla who married Mary Ann Spense Gragg. Samuel was born in 1773 in County Down, Ireland. He sailed from Ireland in 1798 and is buried at the Old Canon Creek ARP Church Cemetery in Newberry, SC.

From the Anals of Newberry:
Samuel was compelled to leave Ireland about 1798 because of the part taken by him in some political troubles in that unhappy country. Having to leave the country to avoid arrest, he left his wife and little son Robert, only 2 or 3 years old. He seems to have come directly to Newberry and settled in the above mentioned place, his wife and son Robert, not coming to America until 1817. The son he had left a sportive boy was now a young man of 21 years. Mrs. Mary McCalla and son, Robert, sailed from Belfast Ireland, Oct 12, 1817 on the ship CYRUS, commanded by Capt. Gossard, and landed at Charleston, SC, 30 Nov 1817.

If anyone has information on the family left in Ireland or their ancestors please let us know. We have extensive records of the family lines that settled in Tennessee.

Jerry

I see that this posting is extremely old. I hope someone reads it. I think Alwyn Sr. is the brother of my grandmother Enid Violet. She has 2 daughters Joyce (Tiny) and JoAnn. I don't know who Joyce's father was, I do believe he was a haitian man, but my mother JoAnn is Violet's daughter by Josephus Wilson whom she met in the states.(NY) I have been trying to find out more information about my Nana and her family, she passed in 1997. Please email me at shalonchawkins@aol.com. I have all her pictures of her youth in Haiti and would love to put names to them.

My gggg grandmother Mary Margaret McCalla was the daughter of Joshua and Mary Morris McCalla. She married House B Mitchell March 28, 1849 in Adams Co, Ohio. Mary McCalla was in their household in the 1860 census for Adams Co, Sprigg Twp, Ohio. Listed her as being from Md. We have not found much info on the McCalla line. We figured they must have moved out of the area or something.
We show John McCalla died April 14, 1845 and Amelia died April 21, 1845 in Aberdeen, Brown Co, Ohio.
We have Joshua being born in 1794 and married April 2, 1819.
Looking at Wrisdon McCalla's birth date he could not be the son of John and Amelia since they did not marry until 1806. John Jr, Maria, and Henry K would have been theirs.
Thanks so much for your information. If you have more we would really appreciate it. We can also send you my line to present day.
Randy Goldsberry
catrus@wideopenwest.com(not the email above)

Claim Jumper Ejected - J. C. McCalla

Appears in "The Wapanucka Press" 5 February 1903, Wapanucka, Johnston County, Indian Territory, now Oklahoma

CLAIM JUMPER EJECTED

The Cost in Contested Claim Amounts Ten Thousand Dollars

Arkansas City: One of the hardest fought land contest cases in Oklahoma was settled this week when Sheriff Bain of Kay County, Oklahoma, served upon J. C. McCalla, a mandate from the supreme court of the territory and ejected him from the homestead he has been holding since 1893. McCalla filed a contest on the claim of Dr. C. S. Acker, and it has been one of the bitterest fights in Oklahoma. The entire neighborhood took sides, and lodges and churches were broken up. A general feud began, but there never was drop of blood shed. Threats were numerous but none were carried out. During the nine years the claim has been in litigation Dr. Acker has farmed it while McCall squatted upon three-quarters of an acre and brought law suits. The costs to the parties will reach $10,000. The case has been eleven times before the department of the interior, and has had eight trials in civil courts in Oklahoma, besides numerous trials before the land office. McCalla left the claim under protest.

No 1; Waco, Texas; Established March, 1892. Furnished by Sibyl Creasey.

Is one of the successful farmers in Van Zandt county, and furnishes a good object lesson for what may be accomplished on an East Texas farm. He diversifies extensively and undertakes to excel in each crop he undertakes to raise. Mr. Pipes was born and reared in Lincoln Parish, Louisiana. His father was a farmer, and also a Methodist minister. The boy was reared on the farm and his predilections (sic) were all in that direction, so that he is essentially a farmer and loves it. His education was limited but he has forged to an enviable place in practical agriculture. At proper age he married Miss Luella McCalla, who only lived a few years and became the mother of three children, then in May, 1889, he married Miss Rebecca Crawford, who still survives. She has four children. Mr. Pipes and his wife are full partners in business and co-operate perfectly in the family comfort and support. They moved from North Louisiana seven years since and six years have been spent in Van Zandt. During these years he has improved almost an ideal farm. He has 90 acres of land with about 40 in cultivation. He ditches his farm and runs his rows on a level. He plants the staples in a sufficient crop but has learned to depend with full assurance of ample results. He has a small herd of highbred Jerseys. He has registered Berkshire hogs, with good pasture for both. He raises the Spanish goober in abundance and they prove to be good feed for cattle, horses or hogs. He raises oats for home consumption. He is a specialist in watermelon culture and never fails in a crop and always obtains the highest prices. His sweet potato crop is a reliable source of income to him as he has the best variety and never fails in the yield. His watermelons brought him $132.00 in the crop of 1903 and his sweet potatoes probably brought $360.00. He has registered Jerseys to sell, of Stoke Pogis, St. Lambert strain highly bred and pictures of beauty. His registered Berkshire pigs come in the market at intervals. He has an excellent young orchard. He has pasture for his horses and cattle and hogs and yet he makes good crops of corn and cotton, and is conscientous (sic) in all his dealings.
