Parents: James & Mary (McLaughlin) McCalman, natives of Scotland. James came to Helena in 1882 & in 1884 moved to Deer Lodge. He was a brick and stone contractor and was construction contractor for the State Penitentiary in Deer Lodge, the Insane Asylum at Warm Springs, and the Tuberculosis Hospital in Galen. In 1908, Tacoma, Washington, James married Miss Marion McFarlane, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John McFarlane of Tobermory, Scotland. Children: Ronald, b. 1909; Douglas, b. 1912; Malcolm, b. 1917.
