Re: Fermagagh McClintocks

Dear John, I have a g-g-grandfather Charles McClintock born 1805, Enniskillen, County Fermagagh Ireland. His marriage record to Mary Franey March 25, 1835, in Dalhousie, Kings County, Nova Scotia, Canada is registered at the Archdiocese of Halifax, Nova Scotia, RC Church Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The marriage record lists as his parents; James McClintock and Seinthy (stet) Johnson. The Kew Records Center England, has him as a solder in the 34th Regiment of Foot, enlisting at age 19, on May 25, 1825, at Enniskillen, Fermagagh County, Ireland. There is record of his embarking the HMS Wellington at Cork on August 19, 1829 for transient to Halifax, Nova Scotia. He arrived in Halifax NS, October 10, 1829 and transferred to Forth Edwards, Hants County, NS where he purchased his discharge on March 31, 1831. Charles re-located to the Dalhousie Military Settlement, Kings County, NS were he married and had a son William Alexander McClintock. My line of McClintock's oddly mostly went by their middle names. William's records are all Alexander McClintock. Alexander married a Sophia Hiltz daughter of Benjamin Hiltz and Catherine Tobin and one of their sons, James Edwin McClintock is my grandfather who went by the name of Edwin. I have been unable to locate any records for this Irish family in Ireland. In addition, Charles McClintock appears to disappear as there are no further records of him except his marriage and birth of only one child. Any leads or assistance would be most appricated.

I do not know if you found the answer to your question, but my father is a descendant of James Timothy McClintock. Have you tried contacting A. Louise (McClintock) Shelton? She wrote the book "McClintock Memorial" which has everyone in the family tree dating back to James Timothy McClintock up to, I believe, sometime after my brother was born in 1971.

Here is her website: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mcclintock...

Hope this helps.

Do you by chance know if we have a family crest?

My ancestors were Robert Hastings b. 1806 in Donegal, Ireland, died 1871-4 in Ohio? He married Isabella McClintock b. 1812 in Donegal, Ireland and d. 1889 probably in Ohio. They first came to New Brunswick, Canada then immigrated on board the ship "RANGER" in 1834 to the U.S. Their children were Robert, John, William, Theodore, Ann Jane, Sarah, Isabella, Margaret and Emma. Ann Jane was My ancestor who later married Spencer Cone Levering. The Hastings lived in Dochouquet, Auglaize Co, Ohio near Wapakoneta. Their neighbors 1860-70 were William J. McClintock, Andrew mcClintock, William J. Hastings, Charles McClintock and George McClintock and their families. Please send me more about your McClintocks and maybe we can make a connection!
I am currently researching my grandfather James Alexander McClintock born 1874. His father was John and mother Margaret Anne Armstrong married in 1873 and resided at Kilmore North and later had a hardware shop in Lisnaskea.
James joined the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in 1892 and servrd in India and South Africa, he left the army in 1911 and then rejoined in 1914 for WW1. He died in Brookeborough in 1923. I have gathered a lot more information if anyone is interested. tab3286@yahoo.co.uk

Mobile, Alabama Newspaper
From 1859

" Last night about nine o'clock, Berry Odom , a pilot on the Alabama river, shot H.G. McClintock, Esq., one of our most worthy and respectable citizens, in the chin or neck, inflicting a dangerous and, we fear, a fatal wound. After the shooting, the assassin fled, apparently to the guard house, to save himself from the punishment that would have been administered to him on the spot by the outraged and indignant spectators. We hope the law will hereafter shield us from further outrages by this cowardly assassin's 'bloody hand.' He was promptly arrested and committed, after a hard race, by officers Keenan, Kennedy and the horrified spectators who witnessed this murderous assassination."

Not my line, just sharing.

Re: Harriet N. McClintock

Carol, did you ever get anywhere with Harriet? Where did you locate her parents' names?

I've been researching the Yorkville Lowry family, as my thrice-great grandmother was Mary "Polly" Lowry, 3 Oct 1808 Pennsylvania - 15 Oct 1853 Yorkville, Illinois. I don't yet know where she fits in with the Lowrys and am making some pretty daring assumptions!

The Godards and Youngs of my 18th century family apparently moved together from Connecticut to Massachusetts to Chautaqua, NY --where apparently they collected the Lowrys on their way to Yorkville. With, that is, a brief detour to someplace in Pennsylvania when James married Harriet (about which sojourn I've only been able to find possible births of two of their children).

As a Hoover, I assume you or your husband are descended from/related to Carrie Ida?

Marry "Polly" Lowry Godard's only child George A Godard was my maternal grandmother's grandfather. Our Mayflower lineage comes down to us from Polly's husband William Godard. Pretty much everybody is buried in Yorkville. I live in Oregon, so it's all pretty much of a reach for me. ;-)

Lisa Wilcox
occassia@gmail.com

I'm new to genealogy research so it's been interesting to read all of your posts.

I'm looking for my ggg grandmother Phoebe/Phebe/Phoeba McClintock, b between 1820 - 1830 in Butler Co PA, married to Jacob Dobson, also b Butler Co PA, then they moved to Iowa. I have never been able to find the name of Phoebe's parents, but one census I looked at indicated a Francis McClintock had a daughter in the correct age range. He doesn't sound like the one you are talking about, but I thought it worth a shot to ask if any of you have ever heard of her. One Iowa census lists her with Jacob as Catherine. Thanks for your help.

Margaret or Mary A. McClintic b 1823 PA - m James Murray of OH - d 1892 Los Angeles, CA

Hello-

I am interested in finding out more information about my great(x3)-grandmother and her lineage.

Her headstone is in the same plot as her daughter Anna Columbia Murray Phillips and son-in-law Oliver Barr Phillips at Evergreen Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. There, she is listed as "Margaret A. Murray 1823-1892."

When I obtained her daughter's death certificate, her name was listed as Mary McClintic, born in Pennsylvania. She was listed as being married to a James Murray of Ohio.

We have also seen a reference that Mary/Margaret's husband was a prominent abolitionist in the Ohio/Kentucky area. My mother told me that my great(x1)-grandmother reported that she remembered Mary/Margaret as a child and that she was a woman preacher and very stern, and that she came to California in the 1880s without her husband who had died back in the midwest.

See attached images for headstone, her portrait and her name on her daughter's death certificate.

That's about all I know, so I would appreciate any help on this ancestor. Thanks.

Matt McDonald
matthewsmcdonald@hotmail.com

I have just found out that the maiden name of my g-g-grandmother is McClintick/McClintock. Her given name is Phoebe/Phoeba with a possible middle name of Frances. She was born 3 December 1852, married to William James Davis b. Oct 1846 Addison, Somerset Co., PA m. Aug 1869. I cannot find her on the 1860 census for either Somerset or Fayette counties in PA. Could you possibly have her in any of your records?? There is a slim possibly she is related to a Louisa McClintick, who in 1870 Somerset Co., PA, Addison Twp. census is living with James and Elizabeth McCailney(sp?) ages 55 and 56, wwith children Mary A. and John ages 22 and 21. They are listed in the next residence to newlyweds William and Phoeba Davis. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
I am seeking birth/death/marriage/life information on James R. McClintock, co-designer of the H.L. Hunley submarine. He, H.L. Hunley and a man named Baxter were pioneers of southern submarines, built for battle during the Civil War. I have been told James McClintock was from Alabama. Hunley was born in 1823, so I assume McClintock may have been born about that same time. Assistance and information greatly appreciated.
Gail Garlinghouse Rysso

Hello, I too am reasearching the McClintock family history. Actually, my research starts with the Onnie family; however, My grandmothers name was shown on her marriage license to my grandfather, Mr. David E. Onnie, as Ms. Mable McClintic. But, on the 1910 U.S. Census, McClintock is the name recorded for her by the census taker. Curiously, my uncle's name is Jack.

Please email me at: tfly5331@sbcglobal.net Thanks

I bought a large, leather-bound family bible at a auction more than 35 years ago. I think the auction was either in Enid or Jefferson Oklahoma. The bible contains no date. It has several hundred engravings. The bible contains a marriage certificate between Lutellus Davis and Sarah A. McClintock. They were married by William Rocky, Esq. Perhaps a judge.

The location is listed as "Aexander McClintock". The wedding date was listed as 17th of January One Thousand Eight Hundred and ??. The year was not filled in. The witnesses were listed as:
James Y. McClintock
William Silbaugh
William Davis
Josepe McClintock

Fred Ganske
P.O. Box 81 Llano, TX
78643
(817) 838-5118
Looking for any information on the family of James and Annie McClintock who immigrated from Scotland in 1871 and settled in Fremont, Dodge, Nebraska. Especially interested in one of their daughters, Maggie who married a Daniel Jones in Fremont in 1875 and later moved to the Omaha area.

Looking for info on a James McClintock in 1915 or 1916

My grandmother, Daisy Roberta Farnum (1891) got pregnant in 1915 while in New York (or Massachusetts) by a James McClintock. It is believed they never married. They had a son born in Boston, Massachusetts in the spring of 1916, named James Farnum McClintock. He died in New Bedford Oct. 1921. The family rumor is that father, James died in a military plane crash sometime after little James was born and left her his pension, but I have found no facts on this. All I know is that James was of Scottish origin. Does anyone have any info to share about this James. There are numerous James' that may fit the bill during this timeframe but unable to determine the correct one. I realize the illegitimate son may have been a McClintock secret and I may never learn anything more. Maybe someone can shed some light on this for me? Sure appreciate it. Thanks in advance.
