Hi Sharon,

I was just thinking about the records you are looking for. Where did you find the marriage information for Daniel McClory? I have sent for am offical marraige certificate for several of my ancestors and so far I have been lucky and the father is listed. It also lists the "place of residence at time of marriage" -- from that information I then searched the microfilms of church records near the place listed. You can find placenames and maps on Ros Davies's web site http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rosdavies/ to help you figure out what churches may be close by.

I see the Ulster Historical Foundation has a Daniel McClory married in 1882 no father listed. There is also a Daniel McClory born in 1841 -father John, and a Daniel McClory born in 1836 -father Daniel.

I have found the UHF helpful but there is usualy more information on the offical certificates.

Good luck.
Hi Sharon,

The microfilm I referred to is available thru the Mormon Church Family History Centers. You do not have to be a Mormon to rent the microfilms or do research in their libraries. If you go to their website-- www.familysearch.org -- you can search for a Family History Center near you. Call them to see when they are open. They are run by volunteers and usually have limited hours. You can look at what is available in their catalog on line. On their homepage on the top there is a blue line at the end of that line you will see "library" -- on the drop down menu click on library catalog. Then you can search by place, or microfilm number to see what records are available. You will need to go to the Family History Center to order the microfilm. It costs $5.60 to order a microfilm and usually takes about 2 or 3 weeks to come in from the main library in Salt Lake. You will be called when it comes in. Then you have about 3 weeks to look thru it on the microfilm readers at the library. There will be volunteers there to help you. It sounds more complicated than it is --- it's a really good way to actaully see the records and make copies of the ones you are looking for.

Good luck. Kathy

Hello,
I just came across your message. I am researching in the same area. I believe my great grandparents are Patrick MCALINDEN and Mary MCCLORY. I have not found a birth record for my great grandmother, Margaret MCALINDEN yet, but on her marriage record she lists she father as Patrick MCALINDEN from Brickland. Other clues lead me to believe this is probably my great garndparents.

I have searched the microfilm for the Aghaderg Catholic Church (LDS#0926073) and that is where I found the marriage of Patrick McAlinden and Mary McClory. There are tons of McClorys (and Burns, Byrns, Byrnes)listed in those records. I did not write down the McClory listings at the time because it wasn't a name I was looking for then. It would be well worth your time to rent the microfilm and go thru it. I know for sure there is a Daniel McClory listed because he and M. McAlinden are the baptism sponsors for Mary McClory baptized on 27 April 1825. (This Mary is the daughter of Henry and Jane McClory).

Good luck with your search.

Kathy

Dear John,
I just saw your post and I think I can help you. My grandfather was a McClory from Loughbrickland. Even though it is a small village, we are not related but I believe that my greatgrandfather was friendly with the owner of the Lake Hotel. His name, I believe, was Peter McClory.
My mother, now 85, told me that the hotel was destroyed in a fire before she was born but there is still a house on the original site. I actually saw a photo of the hotel some years ago and I should have a copy somewhere.
In 1891 Peter McClory was the beneficiary of the will of Thomas McClory of Drumsallagh, a rural area near Loughbrickland.

I realize it has been some time since your note was posted but I have just come across this site. My father and grandfather are also John McClory's and Alan is either my father's uncle or grand uncle. One of our relatives sent us a "cap" when Alan played for Scotland in 1926-27 versus Wales (I think). My son has been a goalkeeper since his youngest days (played at University of Michigan) and now lives in London. That was why she sent it. I didn't know of Alan until she was corresponding with my father, who had visited this family on trips back home. I hope to find out more about Alan and the rest of the McClory family.

Thank you

Hi Tina
My Mother's father was John J.McClory married to Emma Dorr and they had approx ten children, Nellie (I think Eleanor), Emma, George, Margaret, John (your husband's grandfather - my uncle)and my mother Mary Jeanette.I can't recall the others at this time but i know I can find out their names. I remember visiting Uncle John and Aunt Eleanor as a child in Haledon and may have even attended a family wedding as a very young child. There are many McClory cousins as I believe Nellie and Emma had large families. Margaret is the last surviving sibling. She is 88 this December. My Mom (Mary)Jeanette passed away in 2000. Please feel free to email me at lwalsh13@optonline.net Your husband's mother is my cousin.

I am trying to research Daniel McClory who married Ann Burns in Banbridge Co Down in November 1882 who is my great, great grandfather. Unfortunately the marriage record I have does not record his father's name. I think he might be the son of Daniel McClory and Anne Hanlon born in 1841 but I am not sure. If anyone has any information on him I'd be very grateful.

We are arranging a weekend get together 17th to 19th August, 2007, for all and any McClorys/McCloreys.
The venue will be the Canal Court Hotel in Newry, which is very close to the McClory heartland. [Further information about the Hotel can be found on the web.
Organisation is at a very early stage, but an idea of numbers interested would be very helpful. [We hope to get a discount for Hotel accommodation]
The local history group is being approached, and with a bit of luck we may have a celebrity or two!
If you know where your ancestral homes are, we can arrange transport for that, and/or a trip round the Bronte Trail, etc. Those of us who have done these things can vouch for the wonderful experience!
Some of you will have had an email requesting you join the aol group. Apologies to those whose e-mail addresses I have yet to find!
We can assist with lists of alternative accommodation
for those who prefer Bed & Breakfast rather than an Hotel.
We hope that everyone will bring their tree along to share information, and possibly find connections.
Please feel free to get in touch if you have any queries or suggestions of what you would like the weekend to be.
Best wishes to all,
Eileen Gard

Hello Lois,
I will pass your query to a McClory who lives in Ireland, and believes he is connected to the Prunty's.
He is much more able to help you. He introduced my cousins and I to his Aunt, who lives in the Prunty House, when we visited County Down last year.
Good luck in your research,
Eileen

I have been studying the McClory family and am trying to connect my relative in America. My ancestor is Barnabus Prunty who came to America in 1750. I am sure he is in that McClory family. Do you know who Hugh Prunty's brothers and sisters where?? He was McClory's husband. Any info on his line would be greatly appreciated.

Kathy,

I ws in Loughbrickland last year meeting part of my great-grandmother's family that still lives there. While I was there, I took photos of some of the tombstones in the cemetery of my ancestors and related families. Behind one of my KEARNEY tombstones is the stone for a Peter McCLORY and his wife Margaret (d. 1957). There are other McCLORY stones off to the right, but are unreadable from the distance and given that I wasn't focused on them. They probably are relations to yours.

Thanks for the reply David. Feel that I'm going to have to hire someone in Quebec Canada to research from there. They speak French so it is hard to communicate. We are probably cousins many times removed. As are all of the McClory's I presume.

Pat

Most of McClory's came from Parish of Aghaderg. Also from Kate's Bridge and Mayobridge,County Down. Sounds as if they are all in the same vicinity. There is researcher in the area who will help you locate relatives if you have definite link back to the area. He works for a reasonable price. "Michael Anderson" michael@andersonpoyntzpass.freeserve.co.uk

Am curious about your background. My dad had a cousin Sister Ligouri her mother Rose Murphy - father Bernard McClory - she had a brother DAVID, sisters Terresa and Agnes. Any chance for a connection?

My grandfther Donald Patrick Quebec, My dad Donald Bernard b. Michigan, his brother Sinclair (Fr. Wm. McClory O.P) brother Leon and Sister Gail.

We are a very long-lived family which I understand is a McClory trait. Might want to visit opwest.org/profiles/m/mclorywilliam.htm. This is short bio of Fr. Wm.

Would be great if you are a link to the David in my history.

Pat McClory Cavin

Alan was born in Armadale/Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland. His father, Thomas, was born in Calderbank (SCT). Alan's grandfather, John, was born in Hamilton, Lanarkshire (SCT) in 1843 or 1844. The family visited relatives in Ireland as late as the 1930's, but the only person who remembered this could not remember the town name. She recently passed away. The family's Irish origins have been lost. An interesting note: this line of McClory's are Protestant, at least since 1843. All other lines I've found are Catholic.

Mary MCCLORY & Patrick MCALINDEN

Hello,

I am looking for information about Mary MCCLORY & Patrick MCALINDEN. They may be my great great grandparents. They were married on August 11, 1835 at the Aghaderg Catholic church near Banbridge, county Down. The witnesses were Lawrence & Harry MCCLORY.

I also found 2 children of theirs listed on microfilm #0926073 from the Family History Library (records of the Aghaderg Catholic parish). The two children are:

Susanna MCLINDEN, baptised on Oct. 5, 1836, sponsors: Jmaes & Sarah MCCLORY

John MCALINDEN, baptised July 24, 1840, sponsors: Felix Murnaghan & Ann MCCLORY

My great grandmother was Margaret MCALINDEN. I have not found a birth record for her yet, but I do have her marriage record. She married Neil FITZPATRICK in 1873 at the Aghaderg Catholic church. On the marriage certificate she lists her father as Patrick MCALINDEN, a grocer from Brickland.

On my great aunt's social security application she lists her mother's maiden name as Margaret MCCLOREY MCALINDEN. I always wondered why she put the MCCLOREY part there ---- was Margaret married before or was that her mother's maiden name? Then when I saw the marriage record for Patrick MCALINDEN & Mary MCCLORY -- I thought maybe they are indeed my great great grandparents.

There is also a funeral record on that microfilm for a Mary MCALINDEN on March 31, 1850 from Loughbrickland. No age given. I wonder if this could be the same person as the or possibly a child of the MCALINDEN family.

Does anyone have this family is their line? Thanks.

Kathy McCourt Vacek

I don't think there's a connection - I got my name from Welsh ancestry on mother's side!

My McClorys last lived at a house in Banbridge called 'Monteith', Tullyorier. My greatgrandfather Hugh McClory and his wife Annabella Burns left for Birkenhead in England in the early 1880s. Hugh's father was Patrick McClory, who married Margaret McShane. David doesn't appear as a name for any of the ancestors I'm aware of.

David

David,
I was born in Banbridge, County Down but now live near Dublin. My mother was a McClory, also born in Banbridge. There were several other McClory families in town not related to us. Most deceased people of that name are buried in Banbridge, Loughbrickland (Aghaderg parish) or Annaclone - sometimes spelt Annaghlone.

I suspect that my own McClory ancestors originated in Tullyorier but I never proved it. A few McClory families still live there. It is a rural district only 3 or 4 miles from town but is part of Annaclone parish. Local records there are computerised but only go back to about 1850.

I am on holiday abroad at the moment but I have a fair amount of information at home. Unfortunately most of it relates to Aghaderg parish. If you like to email me at rjmcconville@eircom.net with any details or queries you have, I´ll be happy to pass on anything useful I might have.

Best wishes,
Ray McConville

Dear Sir:

I recently came across you posting. I have been studying my family history and know, for a fact, that the Mciney family name is related to me. John G. Mcinery was my great-great-great grandfather. That family comes from Limerick, Ireland. My grandfather's grandfather was John Mcinery Jr.; thus, we may be related through great-great grandfather. I hope to hear from you soon.
Later,
Eric

McClory's of Liverpool and Belfast, 1880 - ????

I am trying to trace the family line of Alice McClory who married Edward Fontaine (died 5th November 1921) and who lived in Liverpool until she died in 1929. She had three children:

Mary Agnes Fontaine (lived in Liverpool until 1929 ?)
Peter Charles Fontaine (lived in Southern Rhodesia, South Africa ?)
Edward Louis Fontaine (lived in Liverpool until ????)

I believe there were relatives in Belfast and Mary Agnes may have reverted to her mother's maiden name of McClory.
