There is information saying she married James Hayes 1871 but the 1880 cenus shows her living with her father. She married Lewis P. Streeter. Feb.o8,1883 aaaaaaaaaaacolew County, Illinois. She put her daughter Emma in Rose Home, Terre Haute, In. in 1887.I now have records from Indiana Commisssion of Records showing her living part time with her sister Margaret Fuqua and sometimes on Laffayette Ave, Terre Haute ,Indina. In 1895 her other daughter Nellie was surrendered because her mother was dying of consumption in Charleston, Il. Does anyone know if Alice was born in 1861.

Sounds like the McComas group that moved with the Peter's Colony "Wagon Train" down into MO, KS, and ending in Dallas TX.

Will check some of my earlier records. I too have a couple of Lucinda's around that time frame, but it isn't yours.

David McComas 1780''s

For many years it has been my understanding that David McComas married Chloe Bailey about 1787 and had one son, James McComas (my ancestor). They were supposed to have divorced and Chloe married David Lusk. Now I'm finding web sites that say David Lusk McComas married Chloe Bailey which makes me wonder if David McComas and David Lusk are one and the same. If so, why did David drop the McComas and become David Lusk? There are records for both names associated with Chloe Bailey. e-mail at mredmond@gte.net.

Luticia Ann Barnes Anderson

Statement of Mary E. Walker given in case of Luticia Anderson (McComas) (Barnes) on 30 March 1917 at Holton, Jackson Co. KS before F.E. Keith, a Special Examiner of the Bureau of Pensions.

I am 61 years of age, my post office address is Holton, KS, my occupation is Register of Deeds for Jackson County, KS. I am acquainted with the claimant in this case, Luticia Ann Barnes having known her since the year 1870. She was then known as Mrs. McComas and was the widow of David McComas, a soldier. I learned that he had been a soldier and had died of tuberculosis contracted while in the service. I did not know him. She was living with her father and mother there in Holton, KS and while living here she was married to a man by the name of Barnes. This man Barnes was living here at that time and was a tailor by trade and was boarding at the home of the father of this claimant, Major Martin Anderson. I cannot be real positive as to the given name of this Barnes, but a short time ago I received a paper from Mr. Coney of Topeka, asking me to sign the same, and that paper was prepared as it now is, and when I read that statement and came to the name of Milo B. Barnes it sounded familiar, and it is my belief that the name Milo B. Barnes is correct, and believing it was I signed the statement. This claimant and this man Barnes did not live together a great while, when they separated and she afterward secured a divorce from this Barnes and I was with her the night she paid her attorney for securing the divorce. She paid to to John S. Hopkins, Kansas and it was $10. This Mr. Hopkins is now dead. The Hopkins family were very intimate friends of this claimant. After this Luticia Barnes secured her divorce from this Mr. Barnes, the tailor, she has not remarried at any time to the present. She has been like a member of our family and I know positively that had she ever remarried at any time she would have told me of it. I am real sure she has been married but the two times, to David McComas and to this Barnes, whose name I feel pretty sure was Milo B. Barnes as that name sounds familiar. This claimant is highly respected by everyone and comes from a family of the very best citizens of this community, and I am sure anything she may say regarding her life would be the truth.
Obit John Harve McComas d. July 1898

(I am not related, just posting this FYI)

JOHN MCCOMAS. It has been my duty to record one of the (to me) saddest events that it has been my duty to chronicle for some time, in the death of our old friend, John McComas. Every reader of THE ADVOCATE will remember him in "Nicks Fur Schtay," and while he was able to fill his place in the correspondents column. We all looked for his items among the first, for we expected to see something sparkling with wit and wisdom, always up-to-date in news and always to the point. John Harve McComas died in Esbon, Jewell Co. KS on the 2nd day of July, 1898 at 11:25 a.m. of Schirrus cancer of the left cheek, aged 48 yrs 7 mos 22 days after a lingering illness of about four years. He was born in Crawford Co. IN on Dec 9 1849 and emigrated with his parents, John and Jaunetta McComas, from the state of his birth to Johnston County, Iowa, in the year 1851, and grew to manhood near the village of Palestine, twelve miles south of Iowa City. There were four brothers and four sisters of them, of which 3 have been called from this sphere of action. The first to be called was Samuel David McComas, who was 3 years older than John and died at Mountain City, Nevada on Sept 9, 1869. The next was the oldest of the family, Mrs. Harriet Walker, who died in Jan 1878, and the next to be called was John. He leaves an elder and younger brother, E.S. McComas of La Grande, Oregon and W.H. McComas, who was with him in his last days; besides three sisters Mrs. S.A. Pursell and Mrs. J.B. Thompson, of Union, Oregon, and Mrs. J.A. Denney of Alpine, Idaho, and a loving wife, three daughters, Alice, Estrella and Mae, and a young son, Ivan, whose tender care had been his greatest earthly comfort through the sad and final strugle, to mourn his departure from friends that have known him so long and well. It is but fitting to say that those who know John most knew him best and those who knew him best loved him best. His two elder brothers went across the (at that time) Great American Desert to try their fortunes when John was left to manage the family affairs, and how earnestly and faithfully he performed that duty, the brothers and sisters who survive him or mother, if she were alive, and friends who knew him could give testimony. He was married at the age of 22 to the lady of his choice, Miss Lucy PULLEN, and immigrated to Jewell Co KS in the summer of 1878. The activity of his life, the honor of his dealings, the courage of his convictions and the brave resignation and fortitude with which he fought the fatal malady and bore his terrible sufferings, were characteristic of his life that need not be written. His remains were taken to the United Brethren Church on July 3 at 3 p.m. where the funeral ceremony was conducted by Rev. Poulson, after which the body was given to the care of his brethren, the A.O.U.W. lodge of this place, assisted by members from the Burr Oak, Mankato and Lebanon lodges, and followed by a procession of 122 vehicles he was laid to rest in the Prairie Home Cemetery. When we say rest it means rest in every sense of the word, for he gave abundant evidence of his trust and repose in the Savior for, as he frequently said, "I have that blessed assurance that I am accepted by my Savior and will soon go to him." His family has lost a loving father and companion and the community a good citizen, but what is our loss is heaven's gain.

We corresponded for quite a while after our separation and before my divorce was granted, but my friends did not know about that. Milo B. Barnes was a tailor by trade, and a cripple. The daughter Jessie E Barnes married Henry S Robb and moved to PA. I found them in 1910 census there lodging, having been married 5 yrs, no kids, and he was working as a clerk for the govt.

Hi, Tennessee and John Shepherd are my husband's g-g-g-grandparents. I have my suspicions about the lineage of Tennessee but haven't been able to prove it. I believe she is a child of Stephen and Sarah McComas. They had a son, Issac, born the year after Tennesee. He named one of his daughters Margaret Tennessee McComas. Our Tennessee married John Shepherd when she was very young, in illinois, before the McComas family moved to Texas. I have extensive information on John Shepherd's lineage.
