I don't know if Joseph L. Cotten had a will. Gaylord is deceased and I have no idea who received all his extensive McComb/Cotten, etc research. I hope it is in safe keeping. Since Joseph died in Bagnell, Miller Co., MO, maybe someone who has access to Miller County Wills could help you.

Carl, we corresponded back in 2003 and I just recently found a note in all my papers that Bro. Jim Poole, who was a pastor at Elmont Baptist Church said he found a grave of what appeared to be Jacob Shaw McComb's grave just across the Grayson County line in Collin County in the Barden Cemetery. I contacted my cousin in Anna, TX and asked her about it. The cemetery is now known as the Warden Cemetery. She said it was not listed in the cemeteries of Collin County nor has it been transcribed as far as she knows. She said when the ground dries up she will see if she can locate the grave. nancytex@wt.net

I do not have a copy of his will and do not know of one. The only suggestion I have is try to find the family of Gaylord Strange, I think he is deceased now but lived at 223 V fw Rd. Eldon MO. 65026. He has a lot of information on the McCombs, Conners and Cottens. He did send me a book with some wills in it but they were on the Conner Family.

Carl

This is not the same family. But all the first names that you have, I also have with this SC McComb family. My SC ANDREW was born c. 1755. Think he might have came over on the ship BRITTIANA starting from Ireland in Fall of 1771. Was in SC at least by 1778. Married a REBECCA Foster. Had (among others) a son WILLIAM born 1784-94.

Thank you for sharing and it is great that you have your wonderful family Bible.

Jane McCombs Gillespie
gillespie4491@bellsouth.net

Re: Andrew Y. McComb

Of course, our Family Bible begins with William McComb b. 1750 in Augusta Co., VA and list wife, children, birth and death dates, marriage date, etc. After Rebeckah Young (his wife) dies in childbirth with their 12th child, a son who also died, the Bible is continue by William, Jr., who was their 6th child and continued with his family. It was then passed to William Jr's daughter Eliza who was my 2nd Great Grandmother. William Sr.'s 1st child was Andrew McComb (named after William's father)who died at age 13. When their 10th child was a boy, they named him Young Andrew (in the Bible)but he went by Andrew Young McComb. Since his mother's maiden name was Young it's hard to know the intent. The family left Augusta Co., VA in 1783 to KY (I don't know where in KY) and moved to Clark Co., IN in 1810 where they stayed for a number of generations. I believe that this Andrew Y. McComb b. 12/20/1793 is the person named above. I will be glad to share anything else that you would like. Do you think there is a connection to your SC line?

Susan

I was interested to read your email about McComb from Ireland and Ontario. My McComb ancestors came from Dublin and then my grandparents went to live in Ontario for a couple of years. My great grandfather Dr. William Taylor McComb was born in Dublin and trained as a surgeon and physician in Belfast and Edinburgh. His son Rev'd Arthur William Evelyn McComb was born in Suffolk and became an Anglican clergyman. He and his wife Muriel Osman met in New Brunswick and they then went (he as chaplain) to an 'Indian' reservation in Ohsweken in 1915.

I often wonder if there was not some family connection with one or both of these places in Canada.

I don't know if I am connected or not. I do know there were 2 early McComb who left SC & went to KY. They were Hugh & John. I don't even know how/if they are related for sure. But I would think most early McComb in SC are related in some way to my line.

Hello- I hope this is still a good e-mail address...The daughter of James and Elizabeth you mentioned, was Ada Esther McComb. She was my grandmother. She always told us she was a twin, and low and behold Apil 8 186Fullerton4 was listed as the bithdate of Ada and Mary L. So it was true. Ada E married Edward Haggerty Fullerton. They had daughters
Alexandrine and Jeanette Parker; and one son Stephen Whitaker Fullerton born about 1883-5. He was my father. I am Barbara Kester Fullerton ( now Worrall) I would be thrilled to find a relative on Ada e "Bowie"'s side. My e-mail is bandbworrall@bellsouth.net

Hi Sandra,
We may have e-mailed before, but I don't find any record of it. I apoligize if this is redundant. I also descend from Joseph & Emily through their daughter, Emily, who married Donald Drummond. I'm at the same brick wall. I have since found the 1851 census which shows Joseph & Emily living with Joseph jr. and family. It also shows a new name, George McCombs living with them. Whther this is brother, father or ? isn't clear. The age is hard to read and I have seen it transcribed as both 55 and 65. I believe it is 65 from the way the census taker wrote a "6" elsewhere. If you are still working this branch, I would appreciate any help you might be able to offer. Thanks Butch Wright

Hi, I saw your reply to the William McComb query and noticed we both have the same name, Richard McComb.
My great Grand father was Thomas McComb, (probably born around 1806). He married Elizabeth Carmichael May 9, 1854 in Quebec. I believe he came from the Glasgow area of Scotland but have been unable to confirm this or find who his parents were. He emigrated to Canada and settled in a small place called Bourge Louis which was near St. Raymond and West of Quebec City. Thomas had a sister Rachel, and two brothers Samuel and William. One of the brothers might have been a half brother.
Would appreciate any help locating Thomas’s ancestors.
Richard McComb USA.
mac56@columbus.rr.com

My Thomas McCoomb was a bootmaker, and Robert was born in Lisburn, Ireland, c1830,so unless Thomas left Ireland after that time frame !?
I don't know who Thomas' wife was, even on Robert's death certificate there is no mention of his mother, which I find strange, Robert died in 1920 in Whangarei, New Zealand.
Could this be the reason his mother wasn't listed, his Dad went to the US.? all such a mystery.

Ricky, I misspoke when I said my ggrandfather was William. He was actually George W. McComb. I believe the W. is for William. All other info, scant as it is, is correct. My fathers name was Richard also. I knew McComb was of the McThomas clan though I don't know if my family was Scottish or Irish on this side. Thanks for answering! Leisa

Nice to hear from "family" in Scotland. My 4th great grandfather was William
McComb. He was born in Augusta Co., Virginia on May 20th, 1750. I have his
family Bible which starts with his birth and marriage and came from Scotland but
have not been able to find anything about his parents or siblings. He named his
first son Andrew as did his son William Jr. so I assume that Andrew has family
significance. Any ideas about when, where, how, why, etc. his family might have
come from Scotland could be a help in my search. Thank you and welcome.

Susan
I found this in the library in a book called Abstracts of Wills and Settlements, Logan County, Kentucky 1856-1874:
It's Hugh McCutchin's will:

To James Monroe, son, 1 Negro girl and $500.00; to Araana, daughter, 3 Negro girls, l mare, 2 cows and calves, 2 featherbeds and furnishings, $500.00; to Leonidas, son, 1 colt and $2,000.00 Rest of estate is to be sold and divided among all my heirs, to wit, Alexander M. Sloss, William Kennedy, John, Jesse M., Finnis, James, Araana, and Leonidas McCutchin.Written 22 Aug. 1840. Exec.: John and James McCutchin. Wit.: Denton Darby, Asa Holland. Signature is written. Date of probate: 28 Sept. 1840.

My great-grandmother was Araana. I assume that John, Jesse M., Finnis, James, and Leonidas were her brothers, but I don't know who Alexander Sloss and William Kennedy were.

How are you related to them?

Sherri
