Classification: Query
Surnames: McConnell, McCune
The book, Revolutionary War Veterans of Greene County, Ohio, lists the children of Adam McConnell (b. 8/24/1754) and wife, Janet (b. 10/4/1852) as:
Agnes McConnell, b. 6/29/1777
Janet McConnell, b. 1/24/1779
Margaret McConnell, b. 3/15/1781
William McConnell, b. 2/17/1783
Mary McConnell, b. 1/20/1786
Robert McConnell, b. 1/6/1787
Ann McConnell, b. 1/9/1789
Agnes McConnell, b. 2/9/1791?
Eliza McConnell, b. 10/23/1792
Adam McConnell, b. 8/22/1795
This information was apparently obtained from McConnell-Lawrence Bible records, and Robert Harbison's pension record.
Some researchers have said this Adam McConnell was the son of Robert McConnell and Agnes "Nancy" Boyd Willson, but others say that Robert and Nancy's son, Adam, married Elly/Ellen/Ellis Moore. I have no proof either way. However, I am suspicious that this Adam McConnell was NOT the son of Robert and Nancy, but his wife, Janet/Jane, was their daughter. She supposedly married her first cousin, Adam McConnell, son of Daniel McConnell.
I am also suspicious that Adam was not the son of Daniel, but was the son of William, Daniel's brother. Sarah McConnell January, the daughter of Andrew McConnell (who also seems to have been a brother of Robert, Daniel and William), says in her narrative about moving to KY that her "Uncle William" had two sons, James and Adam. She mentions that Adam was, " yet in Pat., now at Xenia."
I believe my ancestor William McConnell was the son of Adam and Janet/Jane. He and Adam were both listed amongst the electors in the Xenia township election of 1805, and William was listed as witness to the purchase of Lot #86 in Xenia by Adam in 1808. Two years later, William marries Mary "Polly" McCune on 9/6/1810 in Greene Co.
Not much is known of the spouses of the Greene Co. Adam's children, nor is there much online about Adam and Jane/Janet MCConnell's children, but what I have found seems to match up and confirm my suspicions. Is there anyone out there with documented evidence about these individuals or their families who can help confirm or disprove my theories. All help greatly appreciated.
