William McCord the Immigrant came to Derry in 1722 and was one of the founders of the Derry Church; when this became too large a Hanover church was founded where John McCord worshipped. I have never been able to establish a connection between the families but I suspect there was one.
David McCord is presumed to be a son of William. I can send you some of the compilation on them if you are interested. Tom Hill

If you will send me an email address, I will send the record of the McCord E2 family which is centered on the Robert McCord family. It's well over 100 pages so you will probably want to read through it before printing out any pages. I am not sure where the Elizabeth Jane fits in for there are a number of McCord families in Bond County from 1816 to 1870s.
McCORD in Montgomery Co. IL

Dear McCord descendants:

Historic McCord Cemetery Needs You

A cemetery exists because lives are worth remembering. It pays homage to the lives that have gone before us and honors our veterans. Sadly, the nearly 175-year-old McCord Cemetery in Irving Township of Montgomery County, Illinois has declined over the years (photos are available upon request). Weedy vegetation has climbed over toppled gravestones and brambles have intertwined with historic markers, including those of veterans from the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Black Hawk War, and the Civil War. Many of the first settlers of the nearby community are interred here but the exact number may be lost to the ages. The sexton records and other records of the old McCord Cemetery Association cannot be found.

Families buried in McCord include: ALTEVOGHT, BOSTICK, CHAMBERS, COCKLERES, CLOTFELTER, DRYER, HAGOOD, HALLER, HANKS, HAYGOOD, HEIDERMAN, HOGSETT, HUGHES, JACKSON, KERR, KNIGHT, LINXWILER, LOHR, MCCORD, PADEN, PARRY, RICHARDSON, RUTLEDGE, SHORT, SMITH, SLAYBACK, SWING, TOMAMICHEL, WILLIAMS

McCord Cemetery needs your help now before it's too late. Perhaps you can come out for a cleanup day, or help map the cemetery or photograph cemetery markers. Are your skills and talents better suited for behind-the-scenes research? Perhaps you have access to local newspaper archives and can search for obituaries and death notices that mention burial in the cemetery. Or perhaps you have access to funeral notices, death registers, bible records, etc. that can be used in compiling a list of interments for those missing cemetery markers or unmarked graves. Please contact Joyce Williams aurien1@aol.com to volunteer. For those of you who are local, there is an organizational meeting planned for November 7 in Irving if you're able to attend.

How else can you help? Share this announcement with your fellow researchers. Post it on appropriate blogs and forums. And if you have family members buried at McCord or have photos of cemetery markers, contact Jeanne Johnson at jj@tampabay.rr.com

The Cemetery committee "Restore McCord" welcomes monetary donations. Much of the work will be provided freely by volunteers, but equipment, supplies, and some specialized services (such as restoring markers and searching for buried stones and interments) may need to be purchased. We could use someone experienced in historic grant applications also. Our recently-formed group will coordinate the much needed preservation, restoration, and maintenance efforts to McCord under the auspices of the award-winning Irving Area Historical Museum http://www.irvingmuseum.org/ The Museum, established in 1999, is a volunteer not-for-profit organization dedicated to preserving local history. Its members' dedicated efforts have been formally recognized by the 2002 Governor's Home Town Award and two Studs Terkel Humanities Service Awards. The Museum has set up a separate checking account for donations. If you'd like to help with the finances of this endeavor, please contact the museum at irvingmuseum@consolidated.net

We hope that you'll join us in the effort to protect this cemetery from extinction. Interment and inscription information from this effort will be distributed freely and we want to ensure continued maintenance of the cemetery grounds after restoration. Your help towards these worthwhile goals would be greatly appreciated. J. Johnson

FAQ
Where exactly is the McCord Cemetery located?
The cemetery is located in Irving Township of Montgomery County between Hillsboro & Irving communities on McCord's Trail. Other nearby communities are Taylor Springs, Butler, and Schram City.
Coordinates of the McCord Cemetery are: Latitude 39.1892139 Longitude -89.444809

What size is the McCord Cemetery?
It is approximately two acres.

Who do I contact to volunteer or for more information?
Joyce Williams aurien1@aol.com
Recently I found that my ggg-grandmother Mary Johns(t)on, b. 1753 probably Lancaster Co. PA and died 1843, Warren County, OH, was a McCord per:

From the Preble Co., Ohio Deaths, 1867-1907, page 3 (Gilbert): "Aughie, Sarah, b. PA, widow, weaver, d. 16 March 1882, 85y, d/o James and Mary McCord Johnston."

McCords are mixed in with my Crain, Johns(t)on and Sawyer lines numerous time but this is the first evidence of a direct connection to my direct blood line.

Can anyone tell me with some certainty, the parents of Mary McCord Johnston?

Thanks.

Rich Lowe
