McCormick - S. Uist to PEI to Cape Breton

I am researching my McCormick origins. Based on other online genealogies, it appears my McCormick forefather (Donald M'Cormig) came to PEI from S. Uist with his brother (Angus) on the Alexander in 1772.

After a time, the family moved to Cape Breton island. They appear to have settled in the Big Pond area. The line eventually moved to the Glace Bay area. They may have also lived in the Albion Mines area (now known as Stellarton), as my great-grandfather was reportedly born there.

Any and all information that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Line appears to be:
Dugald McCormick - S. Uist
Donald McCormick - S. Uist, to Canada
Archibald McCormick - Nova Scotia
Anthony McCormick - Nova Scotia
Joseph McCormick - Nova Scotia
Anthony McCormick - Nova Scotia
John McCormick - my father

Certainly - I'd be happy to pass on anything I find to anyone who wants it. Are your Joseph & John from S. Uist, PEI or Cape Breton

Hi Justine.

So far as I know, the names John and Joseph are fairly popular in the McCormick line(s) and throughout Scotland and Ireland. My own father's name is John. My uncle's name is Joseph.

Do you have any more information (dates, places, descendants, ancestors) that would help us to place your John and Joseph?

Mike, The only connection to John is my Uncle 1899 NJ who was named John Raymond.
His brother and my father was Vincent Joseph 1897 NJ
The only reason I check out these names is when my ggf Rev. William H. McCormick 1832 named his children they were usually decendents. His daugher Anna Martin McCormick made a connection to Anna Martin Force his wife's line and my GGGM.Anna Martin.
You just never know how these things will turn out.
Thanks, Justine

Ok - I get it now. If I come across any connections I will let you know. Vincent, Joseph, John - these are definitely names that occur in my lineage.

Check out the online genealogies of Mark Edward McCormack, Scott M. Connolly, and Tracy Ernest. They appear to share overlaps with my known McCormick lines, and have branches that I haven't looked into yet.

As far as I know, there seems to be a whole raft of McCormicks that left the Outer Hebrides and finally settled in the states. I haven't looked into any of those lines yet.

Hi Justine. If I make a connection with your line I will let you know.

I know that many McCormicks from Scotland eventually moved down to the States, so a connection is possible.

Have you also done a search of Rootsweb's Worldconnect at http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi ??

MiKe;
I am resonably sure that Archibald McCormack B. 1826, PEI is my Great Grandfather. He apparently had at least two brothers, Alexander B. either 1823, 1826, or 1829, and Angus, B. 1836, both in PEI. Although I have found many references to their offspring, I can find little about the parents. Currently, I am pursuing Archibald and Mary, emigrating from the New Hebrides around 1800. There is some information out there that says her name could be Mary Ann McEachern, but I am not yet convinced.

Does any of this tie into the information you have gathered?
