I am also trying to link my family tree to Cyrus McCormick. My mother was the daughter of Harold McCormick Heslep. His mother's name was Amanda McCormick. I have found her gravesite in the Fairfield, VA cemetery. Next to her gravesite is a marker for James McCormick. James was born (if I remember correctly) in 1819. I am not sure if James was Amanda's father or how they may be linked to Cyrus. Any helpful information would be greatly appreciated.

John Charles McCormick

John Charles McCormick was born in Puerto Rico in about 1832--according to the age that was given on his death certificate, when he died in New Zealand in 1904. His father was Alexander McCormick, youngest of three brothers (William and Daniel were the eldest and middle brother respectively) who came out to Puerto Rico in the 1800's from Scotland. I believe that Alexander and his brothers may have been born in Fort William in western Scotland, probably in the 1790's-early 1800's. William McCormick had a liason with a mulatto girl, Ann Smith, daughter of Richard Smith, and had four children. I'm looking for information on their names, and also the names of any wife or children for Daniel, or the name of the wife or any other children that Alexander McCormick may have had.
My e-address is gumball75@gmail.com

Cheers,
Peter Spencer

Mary Ann, I was interested to see your post here. I believe we are distant cousins. My ancestor, Hampton McCormick, was the older brother of your Morgan McCormick. I have been able to trace the McCormicks quite a bit, and I would be happy to share information with you. Unfortunately, the story about Cyrus McCormick is not true. To the best of my knowledge he is not related to our McCormicks, or at least not at all closely.

Hi,
I think your James McCormick was a brother to my John McCormick Jr. I have quite a lot on John McCormick Jr. and some info on John Sr. and Isabella. Their sister Isabella McCormick Stone wrote quite a bit of history. James did freeze his feet quite bad..." When he realized that his feet were frozen, he had to have help to remove his boots, and his toes rattled on the floor as if they were stone. The hotel people brought in quantities of snow in a tub and insisted he put his feet in the snow until the frost would be drawn out gradually." His brother Robert had to carry him. Let me know if you want more info as I would love to see what you have for John and Isabella!

Barnabas McCormick (born in Crawford County, PA 1827- died in Palisade, Nebraksa in 1902) married (1) Mary Scowden (1829-1854) and (2) Julia McMichael of Crawford County, PA. Yu may know about this later relative. I would be interested in the earlier relatives.

Thanks to all for the thread. My McCormicks are the PA/OH/NEB McCormicks. Many are buried in Palisade Cemetery in Nebraska. Look at Find A Grave website. Entry information is wrong for Barnabus, but he is buried there.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GScid=...

There are three Barnabus McCormicks that I have found in history books, census, etc.
I'm looking for information on David McCormick who was born in 1811 (probably in Eaton, OH) to John Wesley McCormick, Sr. and Catherine Drennen. David's daughter Elizabeth J McCormick married Jacob F Jones. I am looking for a lead on records that might help me better tie this all together.

Thanks!

James' father was John. I believe James had a brother John. I can only go back as far as John McCormick born in Ireland and died in Palo Alto Co. Iowa. and his wife was Isabella. As for James, I have born 5-4-1832 in Ireland. Married 27-8-1868 Danville, NJ. Died 29-10-1910 Sumner, MO. Married Ellen Graham born 18-11-1849 Co. Tyrone, Ireland, died 26-8-1923. James son John Thomas was born 28-7-1874 in Palo Alto, Iowa. Married Jessie Benton Matthews 19-2-1902 in Sumner. Died 19-2-1946 in Sumner, MO. Jessie was born 26-9-1878 Cunningham, MO (1 mile from Sumner). Died 28-7-1957 Sumner, MO. John Thomas owned the bank in Sumner and most of the land that the town sits on and the farmland around the town. He was able to hold the bank together during the depression. The bank is long gone but my cousin lives in the house that he built. My grandmother was his daughter, Annabel Matthews McCormick. The family (Stewart) still lives in the Sumner area and are one the biggest land owners in the county. That's all I have. If you have additional info. please send it.
I have a large group of McCormicks that were from Mercer County PA, but are buried in Crawford Co. All I have on their birth place is PA, no county. William McCormick, which is as far back as I go was b. in Ireland in 1771 and m. Nancy Asbury. They had 13 children between 1801 and 1822, no Barnabas however. Don't have all the names of the next generation of McCormicks, but will keep an eye open for your Barnabas. Also had family that moved on to Nebraska from that area of PA. Do you know where Barnabus was married?
Linda

Only found one Barnabas McCormick. In 1900 he was living in Hitchcock, Nebraska, b. PA May 1827, with Thomas, his son and Alma, Thomas's wife. He is listed as a widow, both parents were b. in PA. Thomas was b. in Iowa, both parents in PA, he is 33. West Shanago, Crawford Co. PA is where my McCormick's were from, but this is very close to Mercer Co. PA. The McCormick Farm, was called State Line Stock and was located on the OH PA boarder. The cemetery where all my McCormicks are buried is just over the Mercer Co. line in Crawford Co. I will continue to look and will let you know if anything else comes up. I have a Crawford Co. history book, just don't know where it is right now.
Linda
