Dear McCoy Clan,

I am a McCoy and for over four years, I have been researching my McCoy Family. Some evidence suggests a possible connection to William McCoy & Ole Ranl, the progenitor. Many in my branch also believe this theory but have been unable to confirm this theory. At one point, my line includes Joel McCoy, whose father was Archibald McCoy, born 1770 in Montgomery Co. (Grayson?) VA. About six months ago, I participated in the Family Tree DNA Project for the McCoy Family hoping to find solid proof. My results are in, but there is only one problem, I have no “Real McCoy’s” to compare them to. A major problem I have is the lack of participation from a known Feuding McCoy branch. This posting is a desperate attempt to seek out one or more willing candidates who will participate in this Family Tree DNA Project. This participation from one of your members is critical to prove or disprove my link to your branch of McCoy’s. If anyone can for certain disprove my link by simply identifying this family alone, then I would certainly welcome that information.

Without making this to cumbersome, I am seeking one male (surname of McCoy) individual who is a known descendant of “Ole William” to join me in this important Family Tree DNA Project. Tests range about $99.00 for the “Y” Chromosome test to test the male gene.(I promise, this is not an ad for FTDNA). This test could also confirm any of your existing family members who also may have questions as to their possible link to this famous family.

I would like to ask you to please forward this note on to all the McCoy’s known to be a descendant of Ole William McCoy who might be willing to participate in this project. All I need is one match to confirm if my branch is connected

Here is the website (not a link) to Family Tree DNA:

I’m not certain that my Archibald is connected to your “Ole William” or not. Does the above family connect with the feudn' McCoys??? The common ancestor may well be above Archibald, and could be with his father -or grandfather.

The Archibald connected with the feud may have been born in 1732 in Maryland. His son, William, may have been the one known as “Ole William”. Our Archibald was born in 1770 in Grayson County, Virginia. If you look on a map, Maryland & Grayson Co., Virginia, are very close. I must also say that there is almost as much evidence that does indeed support and place our Archibald, William & our Joel, all together.

Archibald McCoy is possibly buried in the Bull Creek, Mapes Cemetery, Christian County, Missouri. They were also connected w/ the Prospect Church. There is no proof of where Joel is buried. It appears that after he married his latest wife Nancy Ann Pratt that he simply disappeared. There is no record of burial with the Christian County Court House.

Let me close by saying how important it is for me to have someone from this forum help me. My success depends upon your participation. Please help me. Thank you so very much.

Sincerely,

J. McCoy
