Does anyone know the parentage of Nimrod McCracken. According to 1850 Census, he was born in Tennessee, abt 1810.

Nimrod's parents were James McCracken and Mary Smith. James emigrated from Scotland. Nimrod may have been born in Alabama. Nimrod's children were remarkably inconsistant in reporting their father's birthplace in the censuses! Nimrod died Dec 12 1852, only about 6 weeks after having arrived in Polk County, Oregon. Please feel free to email me if you have other questions.

If you know more about Jasper's McCracken's first wife, I would really like to know it. That was Sarah Ann Young. She
was my great great grandmother. Emma E. was my great grandmother. Thank you.

Do you know in which cemetery Nimrod was buried? His son Jasper was my ggg grandfather. I really appreciate the info that you have listed on this board. It has been very helpful. I was away from searching info for awhile but am back at it, and am making a trip to Oregon in May to view all the places of my ancestors there. I have been trying to search via the phone and internet for the cemetery but so far nothing. I would sincerely appreciate any info you may have. Thank you so much Glenda

Glenda -- I was told, several years ago, that it was likely Nimrod was buried on his homestead but I have no proof of that nor have I ever gone searching for his grave. As you know, he arrived in Oregon before statehood and died only 6 weeks after arriving. Email me off the list and I will provide more details. I do know where his wife, Effariah, is buried -- next to her second husband in a cemetery between Vancouver and Camas, Washington
