Her mothers name was Laura (Beaver I think) and she had a brother, unsure what his name was.
Miracle married a Thomas Williams (in Athens in 1969)and they had 2 children, a Jonathon (b 1969), and a Jennifer (me-b 1971).
My brother and I were adopted and I am looking for Miracle's father. I believe his name was Richard McCranie, and I do not know if he was from Athens or not.

Re: Some McCranie Graves

There were only three stones found at this cemetery. Two of those were broken in half.... The cemetery was found by Hubert Evans and these are the directions he gives...
This abandoned Cemetery is on lot 203, 9th district, Telfair
Co, Ga.
Go from Rockwell church on Hwy 132, toward McRae, turn right on second dirt road (#34) to the right, go .6 mile take 1st road to right, go .3 mi (he left out that road forks around to the left, go to left) and take a left at the trailer, cross the field, find clump of trees on left of road and find the remains of this abandoned cemetery.
(The trailer is on the left almost immediately after the fork to the left. Go between the trailer and the barn/shed. You'll see a silo in the field, go past it and cemetery is on left in a clump of trees.) ( County Road #'s are on the back of the stop signs on those roads.) (Bill's notes).
I believe Hubert told me who now owns the land, but I seem to have lost that info. Maybe if he reads this he'll tell us???
Attached a couple of photos of the stones in the bushes... Hubert has some really good photos of these stones.. Maybe he'll post them here???
Later, Bill harrell

Dori,
I saw your message on Rootsweb regarding William B. McCraine born in GA in 1879. I have a couple of "dangling" William B's, but nothing near the year your you need. But strangely enough, I have a William C. McCranie born in 1879 for whom I have no further information. However, his great grandfather, a well beloved man was a William B. McCranie. The names McCraine and McCranie back then were used interchangeably, as many people did not yet read not write. Our name from the Scottish Isle of Jura, where we hail from is McCraine.

I do have his ancestors, if that would help you. I looked, but the names of the children are not anything like those of anyone in your McCranie family. However Kizzie was a fairly common name around here. I had a great great grandmother with that name. (Not a McCranie)
McCrainie or McRainey

Polly,

I have some info, and some conjecture, you may find interesting. A little over a year ago I started to search for my ancestors but had to quit because of time constraints. I just started seriously searching again a couple of days ago. My grandmother was Cinda Yearty McCranie. My grandfather, Paris, or Parish McCranie was killed in 1919, so the story goes, in a fight over Cinda with the man she was previously married to, a few months before my Mother was born. It is said that he killed the man who killed him. I'm getting off track here but I find this stuff fascinating.

As far as I can tell, all the McCrainies, McCraineys and McRaineys (original spelling) are descendents of one Murdock McRainey who arrived in this country in 1756 and setteled in the Cape Fear River area of North Carolina. He had four sons that are listed in the very first census this country ever did - 1790. The 1790 census was very rudimentary, it listed very little except name, amount of taxes paid and number of slaves owned. Neil, the first son I found, owned one slave. Some, or all, of the sons migrated south.

The 1920 census, where I found ancestors on both sides of my family, is loaded with McCrainies, including a Neil McCrainie. Somewhere along the way, I didn't find out where yet but I will, the spelling changed. It became phonetic and the "y" was dropped. There wasn't much chance going to school then and there. Enough for now. Let me know if you find anything further.

McCranie ancestors

Hi, I am a McCranie descendant. My mother was Alpha Irene McCranie. Her father was Lauren McCranie, born Nov. 25, 1862 in Louisiana and died Nov. 16, 1931 near Leesville, LA in an auto accident. He married Frances Viana Jackson. His parents were Andrew Jackson (Jack) McCranie and Brilla Priscilla Huddleston McCranie. I don't know when Jack was born, but believe he was born in Florida either in St. Petersburg or Milton. I have been batting a brick wall on Jack and Brilla because I have no dates. Would any of you happen to have anything on them in your research? Would appreciate any help. These McCranies are an elusive bunch. Thanks, Gloria

Read your message about McCranie's in Cobbtown GA. I was once married to a McCranie who's dad Jerry Myer McCranie was born in Cobbtown. I have heard the family speak of Dewey and I believe that he may have been Jerry's brother. Jerry moved to Sumter County Florida and married Lula Bell Barnhill from Lake County Florida. They had several children one of which is named Mack Junior McCranie, there was also Jerry, Lewis, May Belle, and Bess. That's about all I know, but thought it might help. If you run across Lewis McCranie in your search I would love to know, he is my ex-husband and has disappeared of his own accord because he owes over $15,000 in child support. Good luck in your search!

My family's branch also came from North Carolina area. We know very little except that my father's family were descendants of one of five brothers who came over from Scotland around 1790. My father was born in Orlando, Florida in 1923. His name is John Hampton McRainey he met my mother in Germany and moved to Ohio. So this is one branch of the family that became northerners. However, it is an unusual name and I've never met anyone else with it so am fascinated by any other information you may have. My brother, Doug now lives in Cary, N.C. I live in Columbus, Ohio.
