I am also researching the McCrary family. My great frandfather was William Thomas McCrary. Born Oct. 4, 1887, son of James Franklin and Lettie Ann Cadle McCrary. He had a brother named Gillis born May 13, 1889 and died Feb. 14, 1968. William (Bill) married Nancy Hurley. Gillis married Lizzie Cokraham. Does this fit anyones family?
Thanks for your time,
Michelle

I once was married to Diane Nichols daughter of Sylvia Blair Nichols and Don who lived in Lake City. I visited in Lake City many times. If you will Google these names you will see everything I know of this family. Good luck.
Perry McCrary
Greenville, SC
permccr@yahoo.com

Re: Elijah McCrary Georgia

Hi Perry,

It's nice to hear from you. Y-DNA is passed down from father to son so if you descend from a female McCrary, your DNA will be that of Mary's "significant other." Then, if you descend from Albert who is really a Pinckney, you will likely have Pinckney DNA.

If you would like to join the McCreary/McCrary DNA project, go to http://www.familytreedna.com search for the McCreary surname, scroll down and order the test you want. We recommend the 37 marker test. There is lots of information on this website about DNA testing and lots of information on the McCreary/McCrary project at www.familytreedna.com/public/McCreary/

Once we have your DNA results, we can compare to all the other surnames in the data base. It might confirm the Pinckney descendency or it might suggest who Mary's "significant other" was. Whatever we find, you can certainly join other projects just as easily as you can join the McCrarys.

One thing I can guarantee you...if you descend from a male, SC McCrary, you will very likely have the same distinctive DNA pattern we have found for all SC McCrarys/McCrearys. I have made an excel spread sheet showing the results of the participants in the project thus far. I would be happy to email it to you if you email me directly at jolacaja@planet.eon.net.

Laurie

Laurie

I have a large McCreary family from Washington Co., where most of them came to Texas before 1850. Some of them went to Illinois for a few years before coming to Texas. They were allied to the Vance, Neal, Gregory, and Kelly families.

If you are asking about the Hugh McCreary families I think they were close but we have not established a relationship, even though they mig from NC as ours did and were in close areas as ours.

Sometime our McCreary was spelled McCrary, McCrarry, the various spellings of the time.

I descend from Mary McCrary b.1793 d.1874 in present day Anderson Co., SC which is next to the GA line. Mary was probably the daughter of Samuel McCrary and his wife Margery. Coincidently, I live in Greenville, SC today.
I am interested in your DNA project. What is the procedure and cost. Family tradition says that Mary's son Albert (my gggrandfather) was "the natural son of Charles Cotsworth Pinckney" (son of Gen Thomas Pinckney). So, that could present a problem??
Perry G. Wife is Mahaley.
He is also listed on the 1834 census and 1854 tax census.
Although in the 1850 census his wife is Mahaley on the Baptist Church minutes when he and his wife are dismissed his wifes name is Sarah C.
Also in the Minutes is a Benjamin McCrary and a J.
Re: Elijah McCrary Georgia

I too am interested in Elijah McCrary if only to figure out if he fits with Julius McCrary and William McCrary of Lumpkin Co. GA originally from Greenville Co. SC b. ca. 1800 and 1805.

These two are sons of Andrew McCreary and Sarah LNU of Greenville Co. SC. Andrew had five sons: James, Julius, John, Andrew and William. Thus far I have been able to trace James, Julius, John and William to GA but am looking for connections to other McCrearys/McCrarys whose North American roots were in SC.

I have done a good deal of research on this family. A descendent of Andrew's son William has the exact DNA values as my father on 25 markers.

My earliest known ancestor is James McCreary probably b. ca 1825 in an unknown location and d. probably in 1854 in Wayne Co. IL. From the DNA results, I know that my James' father is somehow related to Andrew of Greenville Co. SC...perhaps a brother.

I am hoping to contact direct, male, McCreary/McCrary descendents who are willing to participate in the McCreary/McCrary DNA project. Thus far, all the McCrearys and McCrarys who have participated and who have their roots in South Carolina have a very distinctive pattern of DNA and are more closely related to each other than they are to any other McCreary/McCrary participants in the project.

Thus far in the project we have descendents of:
(1) Andrew McCreary of Greenville Co., revolutionary war soldier, d. 1827 - at least four of five sons migrated to GA;
(2)Robert McCreary (1735-1814) of Barnwell Co. SC m. Mary Fortune - several sons migrated to Conecuh Co. AL
(3) John McCrary b. 1735, lived in Duncan's Creek, Laurens Co. SC, migrated to Balwin GA, died there 1813.
(4) Matthew McCrary b. 1798 SC d. MS 1856.

As I say, the descendents of all of these have a very distinct pattern of DNA. Do you know of any direct, male descendents of Elijah who might be willing to join the DNA project?

I look forward to your response.

Laurie McCreary-Burke

Boyd, I show as a son of Hugh McCrary.

Since Boyd(father)died in 1848, all the young children including William are shown with brother Columbus McCrary in 1850 (look for Columbus McRary)

I've found some of this family's graves in south west Henderson county (Crab Creek, Berea) Check Findagrave for McCrary's in Henderson County. email me direct and I will help if I can.
Sorry, No I have just stated looking for the McCrary family but the one I am looking for moved from Ga to Jessamine co. and Garrard co. Ky. I dont even know yet what county they came from in GA. Just following anything that might help. They traveled back and from from GA to Ala. and then spent a while in TN where one child was born and then on in KY. but All the children were born in GA and Alabama except for the one in TN. None in Ky. Seems that James died by 1870 as Mary the wife is alone with the kids.
Thanks,
Sue

Below is a link where you can go and read more about DNA
testing; It is my understanding that there is an online database for DNA testing for genealogy, and after you get your results you can look at the database and compare your test with others to see who you are related to. But keep in mind that not all names will be in the database, only those who have participated in the testing.

http://www.familytreedna.com/landing/discover-your-past.aspx

History of Calhoun County, Michigan; a narrative account of its historical progress, its people, and its principal interests, Author: Gardner, Washington, ed. 1845-1928

WILLIAM WAFFLE. Among the enterprising and self-reliant men who are ably conducting the farming interests of Calhoun county is William Waffle, of Burlington, a prosperous agriculturist, especially noteworthy for his good citizenship and many excellent traits of character. A son of the late David W. Waffle, he was born, October 7, 1871, in Medina county, Ohio, where the first three years of his life were passed. David W. Waffle, a son of John Waffle, was born in Ohio, March 6, 1833, and lived there until March, 1874, when he migrated with his family to Michigan, locating first in Washtenaw county, where he purchased eighty acres of land, and for four years was engaged in tilling the soil at the same time working at his trade of a carpenter. In 1878 he came to Calhoun county, and afterwards devoted his attention entirely to farming, continuing his residence here until October 11, 1910, when he was accidentally killed by a train, near Union City, his death being a shock to the community. He was an active member of the Republican party, and served many years as justice of the peace. Both he and his wife were members of the Congregational church. David W. Waffle married Hannah Sheffield, who was born in Sharon, Ohio, December 12, 1836, and died in Calhoun county, Michigan, May 3, 1902. Four children were born of their union, as follows: Charles, of Three Rivers, Michigan, is connected with the Sheffield Car Works; Ella, died June 10, 1898; William, the special subject of this sketch; and Mrs. Leila Kister. About seven years of age when his parents removed to Athens township, Calhoun county, William Waffle was there educated in the district schools, later becoming familiar with the different branches of agriculture while working with his father. When he married, he lived for awhile in Union City, from there moving to Sherwood township, in Branch county, and later spending two years in Athens. Returning to Braneh county, Mr. Waffle purchased eighty acres of land, and was there for a time engaged in tilling the soil. He afterwards bought his father's homestead, on which he lived and labored for four years, when he sold out. He then purchased his present estate of one hundred acres, widely known as "Fairview Farm," and, with the exception of two years, when he rented his land and lived in North Dakota, has since devoted his energies to its improvement, having now one of the best improved and most desirable farms in the vicinity. He carries on general farming and stockraising, specializing in Percheron horses. He is a stanch Republican in politics, and has served as justice of the peace. Religiously he is a member of the United Brethren church, but attends the Methodist Episcopal church. On April 3, 1896, Mr. Waffle was united in marriage with Alta M. McCrary, the oldest of the three children of LeRoy and Alice (Mover) McCrary, both natives of Michigan, her father's birth having occurred in Tekonsha township, Calhoun county, October 12, 1847. Her grandfather, Alexander McCrary was one of the early settlers of Calhoun county, and his marriage with Ella Dean was the first celebrated in Tekonsha township by white people. LeRoy McCrary died in Union City, as did also Mrs. McCrary. Mr. and Mrs. Waffle have a fine family of six children, namely: Alice, Ernest, Roy, Glenda, Gladys and Bruce.

According to the 1860 Census
Alexander C McCRARY b. 1815 NY, m.
