Re: William Patrick McCrory: Birth Information

The information I left above is partly correct and partly not correct. I know William Patrick McCrory born in SC 1774 Was Thomas & Hannah's son. He was a school teacher in NC. He is mentioned in John Osborn's diary located at the U of NC.

I do not know whose son William Patrick McCrory b SC 1810 is. This William Patrick McCrory is shown in census info ast born in 1810, 1811, 1820. It's the same man. He is the one who fought in the Civil War. He married Susan Jackson. He is O William McCrory's ggrandfather. The information he posted is the best information we have.

It is thought that McCrory boys William Patrick, Andrew Jackson, John Thomas, Hugh, Isaac, Starling & possible Chapman L. along with one sister Mary's father is William Hugh McCrory of Lancaster SC. There are documents that lean in that dirrection.

It is thought that William Hugh McCrory is Thomas Ida McCrory's nephew and son of William McCrory, Thomas' brother. We are still working on it.

Thomas & William McCrory's father is Hugh McCrory of County Antrim Ireland. Both of Hugh's sons came over in the mid 1770s (before the American Revolution).

Somewhere out there are documents waiting to be found. We will probably have to rely on Diaries, Bible, cemetery & Church records for anthing previous to 1840.

If there is a McCrory in SC who would like to search archives for information, it would surly be appreciated. Start with Charleston where the Pennsylvania Farmer (1772) and other ships (Rev Martin-Presbyterian Church) landed for a start.
Thanks,
Fran

Under John clinton mccrory....Gladys Erian Butts died during the 60's. Around 1968 or 69, I was little. She was my grandmother, I am the 4th child of their son, Jack William McCrory Sr.
it was really neat to come across the information. Much of it I knew from research my uncle did (Durward Clinton McCrory).

I am the project administrator for the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project (McCrory is a Clan surname). I will be glad to give you the details, but I cannot give out cost information on this list. Please contact me directly at bobmclaren@earthlink.net for this. As for where, the vast majority of surname DNA projects are done by Family Tree DNA (FRDNA)(http://www.familytreedna.com). The Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project is at FTDNA. The test I recommend is the 67-marker test since it provides the most information. If you contact me, I will send you a short file on our DNA project.

Yours aye,

Bob McLaren
Chairman, Genealogy Committee, Clan MacLaren Society of North America
Genealogist, Clan MacLaren Society (based in Scotland)
Administrator, Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project (Worldwide)
Member, Association of Professional Genealogists

McCrory
St Stephens Clarke Co Document # 9772 60.75acres Issue date Jan 1 1852

We know that these three men came from Lancaster SC to Butler AL. Then Chapman went to MS and later all three men moved to Clarke Co. Alabama. We believe they are brothers. My great grandfather is Andrew Jackson McCrory.
My Chapman L. McCrory information is located at
http://pennywind.com/Genealogy/McCrory/Miscellaneous%20McCro...
He is in the 4th section down. I received his information from Hilton McCrory a few months before he died. Hilton was Chapman L. McCrory's great grandson.
I show that Martha Elizabeth (Betty) McCrory is Chapman L McCrory's daughter. The family lived in MS about the time a young lady of 17 would be looking for a husband. I feel sure the Bible record is correct. Martha was in the right place at the right time and the 1880 census does not show her in AL. Most of Chapman's older children stayed in MS and some went on to LA. Chapman, his wife and their 3 youngest children moved back to AL.
Feel free to write me at pennywind@yahoo.com Thanks for the Bible information.
William Morris Hill was born abt 1848. In 1870 he lived in Smith County Mississippi. The Bible belonged to his parents Elijah M. Hill b. 1821 and Nancy Dickerson Hill b. 1824.I have found no McCrory family in Smith County during that time frame. I assume Elizabeth McCrory was born about the same time as William around 1850. I cannot find them on any census. The Bible states they were married January 12, 1871 but does not say where. The Bible record is all I have.

Their names and date of marriage are recorded in the family Bible of Elijah M. and Nancy Dickerson Hill. Elijah and Nancy are in Smith County MS in 1860 and 1870. I have not found a census with William listed after 1870. Any help would be appreciated.

The Library of Michigan has a project running to put Michigan death records from 1900-1920 online free. Not all the records are there yet but there is an interesting one:

Allison McCrory, born 1-12-1861 in Indiana, died 9-27-1916 in Kalkaska County, Michigan. Parents Daniel McCrory and -- Spencer.

Went back to a Michigan marriage index.

First Martin McCrory born 1883 in Elkhart married Grace Rockwell 1921 in Lansing. Parents Albert McCrory and Lottie True. (I already had this one.)

Second, a Sylvia McCrory born 1896 in Michigan married Alfred Larsen in Manistique, Michigan. Parents Allison McCrory and Lettie True.

Looks like Albert McCrory and Allison McCrory are the same person.

Plus another death record of interest: Ida McCrory, born 1915, died 1918 in Jackson, Michigan. Says parents were Allison McCrory (born Fort Wayne, IN) and Ida Ogren. Is it the same Allison with a different wife? Name is rare enough to make me think so.

Evidence looked at so far points to there being only one Albert/Allison McCrory but not conclusive.

Looked at Michigan marriage records again, among other things.

Ida Ogren married a Lonnie Larsen in Manistee, Michigan in 1892.

A Mrs. Eda (not Edna) Ogren Larsen married an Albert McCrory in Sault Ste Marie in 1914. Record also has a notation "nee Ogren". Both were living in Rudyard, Michigan when married which is just a few miles from Sault Ste Marie.

A widowed Ida McCrory is on the 1920 Census in Jackson, MI with age matching back to the marriage record in 1914. With children Herbert, Hazel, and Crystal McCrory whose birthdates precede the marriage date. Another puzzle.

Found a Herbert McCrory on the SSDI of the right age, there are only 2 Herberts. He's on the California Death Index as Herbert Spencer McCrory. However the record says born Louisiana and mother's maiden name Hamlin. Spencer is a match but Louisiana and Hamlin is a mismatch.

Still not enough to be conclusive but still looks like only one Albert Allison McCrory.

Jim
Hi Robyn:

Quinn Alfred McCrory was the son of Clarence Eugene McCrory (1889-1979) and Eva Lucille Copenhaver (1894-1987). Quinn had brothers Clyde and Lamar Eugene McCrory. Last time I was in contact with Kenric McCrory his father Lamar was still living in Florida.

Clarence was the son of Robert Marchin McCrory and Sarah Quinn. And Robert Marchin McCrory's parents were Robert McCrory and Mary Neely.

I'm a distant cousin, also a descendant of Robert and Mary (Neely) McCrory. My branch of the McCrory family left Elkhart County in 1870 and moved to Marshall County near Plymouth. My branch was John Wesley McCrory, brother of Robert Marchin McCrory, and his children.

Three of John McCrory's children stayed in Marshall County, two moved to Nebraska, including my gg grandfather Neal McCrory.

Drop me a line,I can give you some more details on our McCrory family.

Jim McCrory

Familysearchlabs has a Michigan marriage index and it has an Albert McCrory born about 1861, son of Daniel McCrory and Sarah Spencer, married an Edna Ogren in Sault Ste Marie, MI in 1914.

There is also a Martin McCrory born about 1883 Elkhart, Indiana who married in 1921 in Lansing, MI to Grace Rockwell who says his parents were Albert McCrory and Lottie True.

And an Albert McCrory on the 1870 Census in Elkhart County, Indiana living with William and Sarah Davis and a Cordelia Spencer. Was Sarah Davis a Spencer, too?

Doesn't seem to connect to my McCrorys, though I'd be interested in find a Wood County, Ohio McCrory to take a DNA test, I've taken one.

Found Albert on the 1870 Census in Elkhart and have always wondered where he came from, not my McCrory family in Elkhart. Though many relatives moved to near Fort Wayne and Auburn, Indiana, too. Which is were the Daniel McCrory family was.

By my looking I think Daniel McCrory (who married Sarah Spencer) was a son of Daniel McCrory, a brother of Samuel and John McCrory who ended up in Wood County, Ohio.

Which wife of Daniel SR I've not figured out. Have only been able to track a couple of the children: Mary Elizabeth married Thomas Miller. Martha married Andrew Kniss. Isaac McCrory married Drusilla Jackson with one daughter who never married.

Jim McCrory

I've not seen the will of James McCrory, just an extract book which named children.

I have seen the will of David McCrory of Washington County (1806), my gggggg grandfather, no daughter Sarah. And the will of David's son Robert McCrory (1826) who died a bachelor and willed everything to his brother William and nieces and nephews.

Plus I've seen the will of a James McKrory (written 1789, probated 1794). It mentioned a daughter Agnes and an unnamed daughter. It also names his cousin David McKrory as administrator.

Not much help, you'll have to order a copy of the James McCrory will from Washington County for more details. From what I remember these are the only early wills in Washington County for McCrorys.

Jim McCrory

John McCrory marriages to Sarah, Eleanor and Eilzabeth

I have been researching the McCrory's for several months now and have a found a lot of confusion regarding John McCrory and who they married and when. I have (3) 1850 census reports for each marriage.

1. John McCrory(born abt 1807 in Tennessee) and Sarah Herrin had the following children in 1850:
Artumitia, Elizabeth, Harriet, Mary Jane, Parmelia Agnes, and William. The information I got from a obit for Harriet McCrory Sellers says she the daughter of John and Sarah Herrin. John's father was James McCroy (married to Ann)and grandfather was James McCrory (married to Jane Gilmore)
http://dickson-online.com/index.php?name=News&file=artic...

2. John McCrory(born 1808 in SC) and Eleanor Parker had the following children in 1850:
Annie R.,Cyrus G.,John, Stanton S B, Susan J. and Thomas J.
This John is related to the Cyrus McCrory that founded McCrory Arkansas. Information found on the internet about Woodruff County Arkansas. http://www.argenweb.net/woodruff/gary_telford/jennies_colony...

3. John McCrory (born abt 1810 in Tennessee) and Elizabeth had the following children in 1850:
Enoch, James, John Enoch, Letty, Mary, Thomas, William. This is my line and my great, great, great grandfather.

I hope this information will help fellow researchers and can help fill in some blank spots in those trees. I also hope that some trees can get fixed.
I have seen references to a will that names his children as David, Hester, Margaret, William, John, Elizabeth, Thomas, James, Samuel, Sarah, and Seneca. I have a Sarah McCrory born circa 1788 in PA, married, circa 1805, to William Voris of Washington Co., PA, later moved to Fairfield Co., OH. I am hoping this might be the same Sarah, but wonder how her father's will refers to her. She would have been Sarah Voris in 1813.

I am a direct descendent of this family and am working on our family line, which has hit a dead end for over a decade for us and we finally found Samuel and Hannah! Samuels son John had a son Jessie who had a son Fred who had a son Orville who had a son Rob, which is my dad. I would love to see the bible or talk to whoever has it to see if we can get some information about our family. THank you so much!!
Jenifer McCrory

Keith,

I'm replying since you are a male McCrory. Have you considered doing a DNA test? In doing so, you can find out if any others who have tested are related to you. Therefore, you may get some clues to tracing your McCrory genealogy further back in time.
I'm glad that your first cousin may be doing the DNA test. He doesn't have to go anyplace -- a DNA kit will be mailed to him. Inside the kit are three cheek swabs and three vials. The DNA sample is collected by rubbing the inside of his cheek with a swab and then putting the tip of the swab into a vial. This is done for all three swabs and then the kit is mailed back to Family Tree DNA.

Family Tree DNA is the company used by the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project as is the companies used by the vast majority of the surname projects. (McCrory is a Clan MacLaren surname.)

Once the kit is mailed back, it takes a nominal six weeks to get the results. When these results come in, I will go over them and explain them (if he joins the Clan MacLaren DNA Project).

I cannot mention prices on Roots Web. However, if you email me directly at bobmclaren (at) earthlink.net, I will give you costs plus send you a file that gives an overview of the Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project, how to join, and current status.

I do hope your cousin joins us. We now have 327 members and I hope to continue to grow. The more we get, the better we can help members with their genealogies.

Yours aye,

Bob McLaren
Chairman, Genealogy Committee, Clan MacLaren Society of North America
Genealogist, Clan MacLaren Soeiety (based in Scotland)
Administrator, Clan MacLaren Surname DNA Project
Member, Association of Professional Genealogists

Hello, McCrory's. I noticed some postings regarding McCrory's in Elkhart, IN. My grandfather, Quinn Alfred McCrory, was born in Goshen, IN in 1913 and was raised in Elkhart, IN. He married Bernice Spade (don't remember the year) and had a daughter, Delores Jean, deceased, in 1938; a son, John Lee, born in 1944; and Terry Quinn (my father), in 1948.

Anyone sound familiar? I am always interested in learning more about my family!

Robyn McCrory-Sharick

Could you be a little more specific? I have almost 20 Elizabeth McCrory women. Their births range from don't know to 1918. Do you have where she was born & date of birth, where she died & date of death. Any and all information you give me would be most helpful. You can also search my information at www.pennywind.com and click on the McCrory crest. That will take you to my family and if you click on the Miscelanious McCrory link at the top of the page, that will take you to the McCrory clans that I have researched or people have sent me to put on my site. The more you can tell me about your Elizabeth, the more I may be able to help. Fran Meservy pennywind@yahoo.com
