I saw your quary about David Lee McCullar. David was my 2nd cousin. His mother, Willie Lee Farmer, was the sister of my granfmother Louella (Ella) Farmer. David and I played golf many times when he and his family lived in California. The last I heard, Vergie, his wife, lived in Texas. I have the names of his sisters, brothers, and the rest of his family. His grandfather on the Farmer side was Crawford Lee Farmer, also my Great Grandfather. Crawford was a school teacher, lived and died in Kiowa, Oklahoma. I have been to the cemetary where he is buried several times. David was a large man, maybe 5 foot, 10 inches in height, around 230-250 pounds. He loved to laugh and had a quick whit. He and Vergie, his wife, had a handicaped son who requireed much attention. The last I heard after David died, was that his son was still alive and Vergie was still the caretaker. I don't have much information about the McCullar side of the family. I knew Aunt Willie and Uncle Gay, their children and their family. I visited their home many times when they lived in Pollack Pines, California. In fact, I am still in contact with the family. If I can help you with any information about Farmer family, just let know. I am still working on Aunt Willies side of the family. Seems as though I have run into a stone wall with her grandfather's parents.

Let me know if you are interested in the rest of the family.

Lindell Brumley
benttrtee@centurytel.net

Hi David,

I had my Y-DNA tested to 67 markers by FTDNA and joined the McCullough group through WorldFamily.net

Based on the results shown by others who claim to be decended from Alexander McCullar, my line is entirely different. Alexander's line shows a haplotype of I2, while mine is R1b1b2.

To date there is one other test participant with an exact match at 67 markers: Markey Clayton McCullar. He is a cousin I didn't know of before, and I'm sharing information with some of his relatives.

Despite the "no-match" with the Alexander line, I recognize that this DNA testing is the best possible method to extend my genealogical research for this ancestral line.
Carolyn,

First and foremost, you have to be a male McCullar to take the y-dna test. y-DNA is passed down from father to son, over and over and over. In the same way, females can take the mtDNA test, which is passed down from mother to daughter, over and over again.

I wrote an article for the Doty/Doughty DNA project a couple of years ago that should answer any questions that you might have about testing:

http://dotydoughtydna.org/learn.html

Regards,

David Alan Stapp
stappda@yahoo.com

I am a McCullar and I have gone back to Alexander 1758 but I can not get any further. Please explain to me how this works. Were you pleased with the info. Thanks

I am looking for information on John J. McCullar, married 1st Martha Ellender, and the her sister Harriet Ellender. I have quite a lot of information, but I am looking for the location of John J. and Martha in the 1860 census. I am also looking for the location of Harriet in the 1860 and 1870 census. Martha died in January, 1870 and John married Harriet in July 1870, just after the census. Tradition says that John rode from Arkansas to Mississippi to marry Harriet, but there is a marriage bond issued in Union Parish, LA.

Her last years were spent with Karen and her family in Wilson Creek. On Wednesday, Oct. 8 a memorial is planned at the Kingdom Hall in Ephrata at 10 a.m. and a remembrance will take place at 3 p.m. at the home of Gayle Mizer in George. Info: 509 345-2398. Arrangements in care of Carver Family Funeral Home, Moses Lake, WA.

The Martha Jame McCullar in my family was the sister of Fernando Cortez McCullar who was my Great Grandfather. In my records "W.F." stood for William Franklin everybody called him Bill Jeff(still don't understand that one). Family story says that (Bill Jeff)was the son of Thomas Jefferson McCullar(born abt 1825 died 1893) and Sarah ??(abt 1822-1893). He was born in Cedartown, Polk Co., GA. Per my info there were 4 surviving children James Napoleon 1869-1934 (he's buried under the wrong name @ Pinelog Cem. Brookland AR), Martha Jane 1871-1911, Sarah Catherine 1872-1960 (sh can be found in census records in Walker Co.,AL), and Fernando Cortez 15 Jan 1883-04 Apr 1947(buried @Linwood Cem. Paragould, AR.

F.C. was called "Schug" and married Martha M Falls 27 Dec 1907 and had 10 surviving children one of which is my grandfather. They moved to AR in 1931 most of the children came with them, some of them went back to AL.
When we go to the family reunion(yearly)there are almost always some "Pates" there.

"Mary E." per my records is Mary Eleanor Wright 09 Apr 1854-26 Mar 1905. Family legend says that her father was James Napoleon Wright, a union soldier killed on the battlefield at Shiloh and buried at Shiloh Nat'l cemetery(Plot #1674). Information on her mother I have yet to discover.

Per my records Martha Jane had 6 surviving children. John William, Mertie Bell, James Marshall, Rosa Mae, Mary Jane and Marvin. My grandfather has told me stories about Marshall. Which are you descended from?

Greg McCullar
Greene Co., AR

My McCullar side of the family is from Alabama. My great grandfather was born in Nauvoos in 1897 his name was David Gay Mccullar married to Willie Lee Farmer. They had a son named David Lee McCullar born in 1923 in Walker County. I think his grandfather my great, great grandfather was Monroe(Munroe McCullar) born 1868, died in or before 1910 and married to Francis.

Any of this sound familiar. I am stuck and need something on Monroe, Francis and beyond. Thanks.

DNA testing for the McCullar Family
I am a descendant of Patrick McCulloch (McCullar) who was born in County Antrim, Ireland and married to Esther Magee. Along with most other researchers in the McCullar family, I have been able to collect many documents on Patrick, including his Revolutionary War pension, land and tax records, etc. There is very little information in these documents that give clear indication of where Patrick was born in Ireland. I have a solution that will solve this problem once and for all: DNA testing.

Rather than try to explain the exact details in this posting, here is a link for a report that I wrote regarding my involvement with the Stepp/Stapp DNA project: http://www.steppfamily.com/understandingdna.html

To put it simply, a modern day MALE, DIRECT DESCENDANT of Alexander McCullar can do the DNA test and then compare the results with modern day McCullar/McCulloch/McCullough's living in Co. Antrim, Ireland.

For years, researchers in the Stepp/Stapp family claimed that our ancestors emigrated from Buckinghamshire, England. Two years ago, we tested modern day Stepp/Stapp's from all over England, and found an exact match that lives in Yorkshire. The myth about Buckinghamshire was proven to be completely false. We can do the exact same thing with the McCullar family!!!!

The cheapest tests (which will be enough to show whether a relationship exists) costs $99.00. To fly to Ireland and research would cost much more! Even still, you may never find a single record on the trip!

This test will prove scientifically, the truth of where Alexander came from. I would be willing to donate $20.00 to kick-start this process if anyone is interested.

Please respond to this post if you have any questions or might know someone who will test!

Thank you so much in advance!!!!
Re: McCullar Family

Could your Mary J McCullar be buried at Old Oak Grove in Black Pond, Alabama? In doing the McCullar Family History of my line (Andrew- Noah Nelson-Noah Albert-Noah Lacy) there is but one McCullar grave in this cemetery that I can not figure out who she is. Even my grandfather is unsure. Do you know approximately what year she was born and if she ever married?

David,

I'm having my DNA test through FamilyTreeDNA (FTdna.com).

I've got the results for 37 markers, and just ordered an extended test to 67 markers.

Several hits from County Antrim
