Augusta Bell McCune Smith is my grandmother. I am just beginning my search for ancestors so do not know anything other than the following:
My father (Nolan Leslie Smith)was named for his Uncle Leslie. We attended Uncle Leslie's funeral service in the mid to late 50's in Buffalo, OK. Also Carrie and the Knight names seem familiar to me. Daddy passed away in 1993. He was a quiet man and it was difficult to get him to talk about his childhood. His mother (Gussie), father and siblings moved to Northwest Arkansas from Buffalo, OK in maybe 1920?? (In photo taken soon after the move to Arkansas, Daddy appears to be maybe 7 to 10 years old. He was born in 1910 in Buffalo.) I would very much like to communicate with you on the McCune family history.

Please e-mail me at attalagenealogy@midmissregional.lib.ms.us
so that I can give you my mailing address or so that you can just scan and send me copies of the information in an attachment. I will be happy to send you copies of information on our branch of the McCune family line.

I would be happy to share with you any information that is contained in the Bible. I can copy out the names and dates on the page and send them to you if that would be helpful. I'm going away tomorrow for a long weekend but will do that when I get back. Just let me know if that would be o.k. The Bible itself is very large and VERY fragile and trying to put it on a copier or a scanner would not be possible.

I was interested in this posting. I recently came into possession of the McCune Family Bible which dates back to the 1700s and features a listing of McCune births dating back to 1757. I also have a McCune Roster. I am a McConnell on my mother's side and my great grandmother was Margaret Mary McCune. Also in the Bible is a typewritten copy of a testimonial of Colonel Thomas McCune relating to his service in the Revolutionary War.

This sounds like it may be my family. Do you know what the J stands for? I have been looking for Henry James McCune for years, that was my grandfather. My father was born in 1909 so the one born in 1833 could be him. He was in NY also at one time. He married Susan Coldewey. I will look back in my notes to see what year he was born. I would love to share the information inside the bible.
Thank You,
Joyce McCune LaPointe

Hello,
I am in direct lineage with the Nelson line. My GGGG grandfather was James Nelson (son of Robert Nelson) who married Margaret McCune. They had children, one of which was James M.C. Nelson of Antis township, Altoona PA. I have a decent amount of info, but I am looking for as much info on the Nelson/Neilson surname back to our origin in Scotland. Any help would be appreciated.

My ancestor, Mary "Polly" McCune married William McConnell on September 6, 1810 in Greene Co., OH. The book, "History of Greene County, Ohio" by Michael A. Broadstone records a Joseph McCune on the 1808 enumeration of voters in Bath Twp., Greene Co., OH. I'm trying to determine if Joseph could have been the father of my Mary. Maybe he was the father of your Alexander as well. Part of Greene Co. became Clark Co. in 1817. Anyone out there know anything about Joseph??
I was his son Thomas Earl McCune's third son, 2nd to my mother (he was previously married). My mother's name was Goldie Jane Gooden who was born in Oklahoma. I have two naturally born sons: Thomas Earl McCune III and Michael Clark McCune, born to me and my first wife, Victoria Katherine Clark. I also bore one daughter of live birth, Pamela McCune.

This lady was supposedly married to a Eugene Othel Thaxton, but I am having a hard time finding ANYTHING about her. She and Eugene were married in WV, probably in Kanawha County. Eugene was born in 1928, so I suspect she may have been close to his age. She was supposed to have died in 1956, in Charleston, Kanawha, WV, at a Tuberculosis Clinic, at the young age of 24. She left two young daughters behind, Brenda and Linda. I also found that Eugene Thaxton was married to a Mary Jane Fields on 1/17/1949, but cannont confirm this, as his daughter doesnt remember this woman. I suspect that she may actually be the mother to Brenda and Linda, and that maybe they were just to young to remember her. Can someone help me make this connetion?

Since he was 5 years old, I am guessing that he traveled with his father Samuel McCune. I have not been able to locate them on any ship’s log but on the 1900 census it is recorded that he was born in Ireland. Henry J McCune Sr, married Mary Elizabeth Tompkins and they had 2 children Grace b. 1875 and Henry Jr born Sep 24, 1883. Mary then died Oct 19, 1883 (which was less than one month after giving birth to Henry). Henry then married Jessie Potts (date unknown) He can be found on some of the census as living in Troy, New York. Henry J McCune Jr had graduated from the Chicago School of Dental Surgery in Chicago in 1913. He then married my great aunt, Helen Roach, in 1916 in Chicago, Cook Co, IL. She was a showgirl in Vaudeville and appeared under the name of Helen Rae. They moved to Los Angeles to be near her family. Henry practiced his dentistry on an office on Hollywood Blvd for many years. They had no children.
