This post sure rings a bell to me. Happens to be that my mother, who died last August, had a name change around 1944. My mother previous name was Paulina McDaid de Viras, born in 1924, in Colón (on the Atlantic side of the Panama Canal). According to the records that i have, John Mc Daid was her real father and was a north american boat captain from New York. Son of Fernand McDaid and Marguerite Boyles. My mother lived her last couple of months in my house and left an envelope with all these documents. Check to see if these were his parents. You can write to me if you want at firstname.lastname@example.org
...I´m in shock to find out that my mother´s maiden name is not Scarcella Perino, but Mc Daid. I haven´t gone over all the documents yet but coudn´t help to try find out more on the internet and I found your post.
