MUSCATINE - Melda A. McDermott, 88, of 15 Geneva Drive, Muscatine, died Saturday, August 26, 2000, at Unity Hospital.
Funeral services will be at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Rev. Suz McGiver, of the First Christian church will officiate. Burial will be in Anita Evergreen Cemetery, in Anita, Iowa on Thursday.
Memorials may be made to your favorite charity in Melda's name.
Melda A. Harrington was born on January 27, 1912, on a farm in Downey, Iowa, the daughter of D.B. and Martha Thompson Harrington. She married C. Douglas McDermott on December 28, 1934 in Marysville, Mo. She has been a resident of Muscatine since 1945.
She was a longtime member of Wesley United Methodist Church. She had been a member of Geneva Golf & Country Club for more than fifty years and women's club champion fifteen times. Her last round of golf was on Thursday, August 26, 2000. Mrs. McDermott was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. We will all miss her dearly.
She is survived by her daughter, Maribeth King and her husband Bill, of Rolling Hills, California; three grandsons, Douglas and his wife Hilary, of Manhattan Beach, CA, Collin, of Rolling Hills, CA, and Bill, of Chapel Hill, NC; and one great-granddaughter, Lucy London, of Manhattan Beach, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1993, three sisters and three brothers
