I have family from Cumberland & Harnett county, NC. I have not knowledge of any in PA but it is possible there could be some relations. You are correct in saying there are many african-american McDougald's so I will assume we are all related in some way. So I have quite a bit of history from NC. The McDougald men married Lucas women in NC. Reply if you would like to compare information. I am our reunion historian and would like to be able to add to our history.

Thanks

Some of the names listed are familiar, but during that time it seems all the names were the same. We are looking for the same people-
parents of Alex, John, & Duncan...We have him in N.C. at
birth, as per the census. If John was born in Scotland in
1783 and Alex was born 1794 in N.C. then the family had to
arrive within that 10 yr. span..Presently we are at that
proveribal brick wall.. Its good to know someone else is
looking. Let me hear from you..ED KING

My grandfather was DA McDougald; I never knew him. The birth date and death date is the same as you stated in your posted note. He left my grandmother, Mary Frances Leviner and moved from Richmond County to Red Springs, where he remarried. He died in Red Springs. My father was Zeb McDougald, who was from the first family. I was names for my grandmother, Mary Frances and my aunt Sarah Frances (Aunt Sally).
In checking through records, it appears that Daniel Hughee
McDougald was my great grandfather. My grandfather was
Daniel Archibald McDougald, who was born January 1, 1863
and died May 13, 1933. Daniel's first wife was my grandmother, Mary Frances Leviner McDougald and my father
was their son, Zeb. I am named for my grandmother and my aunt (one of her daughters). My grandmother is buried here in Rockingham, NC.
Weylon: I do not have any additional information on this Daniel, but have been trying to connect the early Cumberland and Robeson, NC, McDougal(d)s whose descendants came to Arkansas which Daniel's son Archibald did. Also in AR about the same time as Archibald were Neill/Neal, Charles, John, sister Elizabeth, and possibly Mary (all in Bradley Co. whereas Archibald was in Ashley County). We have often wondered if this Archibald and those in Bradley Co. were brothers. Or do you have any brothers and sisters for Archibald?
Annette Rawls, (south) Arkansas

Hi Amber -- Kudos on your website. It looks good to me. At first glance I thought you might be Rex Lashbrook's daughter, but after reading a couple of pages, I see that we are a little farther apart . We are 3rd cousins. I am descended from Luman, Lena's brother.

I am emailing the instructions for making/sending GEDCOM files.

I'm not as computer literate as you might expect - and don't know exactly how to make a gedcom file. I'm using Family Tree Maker (not sure which version) and that allowed me to create a website (at least temporarily) of the information that I have. The link is
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/h/a/y/Amber-F-Hay... As I said, I'm not terribly computer literate so the site isn't very advanced. I'll be adding some photos (nothing very old) in the next month or two.
If you have any questions, shoot me an email at Highqueenamber@yahoo.com
Thanks!

This is also an interesting version. It says Elias stowed away on the ship and it landed in America, but doesn't say where it came from. My records show Elias (brother of David and son of Nathan Lashbrook and Laura Peck) was born in New York.

I'd never heard of having to fear for one's life if they left the church!! But I really don't know much about that period of history in England, either so I guess it's possible. Either that or there is more to the story.

What lines are you researching? I have a lot on the Lashbrooks if you are interested.

Regards,
Rebecca

I agree, reading the stories about the people is much more interesting then just getting the dates and usually, with every story there is a kernal of truth, it's just finding the kernal that's the hard part.:)
I'd be happy to send you what Doris sent to me - though it may take a while to get it all copied. Without looking at my family tree program, I get confused about who is related to whom where but I'd be happy to email you what I have about anyone and I can also send hard copies (though it may take a few days to get it all copied...)...Let me know what you want or need. In the meantime, I'll try to type some things up into this message board for you.... Do you have my email address or do you need it?
Thanks so much,
Amber

Hi Amber. This certainly is interesting. I've never known anything about Mariah except that she had previously been married to a Foster and that she seems to have married a 3rd time to Norman B. Cole after the death(?) of David. Norman was the father of Mariah and David's son, Luman's, wife. I am still looking for confirmation or verification that the Maria/Mariah/Marie McDougle/McDougald marrried to both David Lashbrook and Norman Cole is the same person.

(This stuff makes me dizzy!!)

In my records, I have Algina rather than Elzina, but it seems obvious that they are the same person. However, I have the marriage date of Mariah and David as 29 July 1855 (from the 1860 census). I also have Algina/Elzina's birthdate as 1855 from the same census. This does not match up with the statement that she was at least 4 years old when Mariah married David. Hmmm. Needs more research.

I'm going to type this up and post it to the various Foster forums to see if I can find anything more about Mariah.

Thanks for posting. I always include these stories, verified or not. They make the reading of a genealogy so much more interesting to see the names and dates as real people.

If you have anything else or if I can help fill in the gaps in your "trees" let me know.

Is it possible for you to send me a copy of the letter itself? (The one from your cousin.)

Regards,
Rebecca

You are right about this being a hard family to track. They use the same name in ever generation. I have a Neal McDougald in the 1860 Bradley Co. Census.
Neal McDougald 53
Judith Ann wife 50
Sinson son 17
Robert M. son 14
Louisa dau. 12
Leris Cass son 10
Naoma dau. 8
Then I have a application for a persion from the widow of Neal McDougald and it is signed by Juda Ann McDougle.

I can not place this Neal with my Charles but I know he belongs there. What is your connection to this family?
This is a hard family to track- in the 1850 census, Jefferson Co., I show a Neal McDougal, age 44, without a wife (unless she's the 14 year old). I found a marriage record for a Neal McDugle in Copiah Co. - but at the time could not make any connections.

In the 1850 census, there is a Mary Wilks, age 78, living in Neal's household. I think Neal is listed in the 1840 Catahoula Parish census.

Any connections?

I've been trying to track the Wilks part of it. I know that my Wilks was born in Copiah County in 1825 (per CW enlistment papers; he died in Civil War). He lived and enlisted in Catahoula Parish, La.

When I went back to Copiah to research, there were only two Wilks line there that I could find in 1825. Then I found a marriage record for a Wilks and Neal McDugle - I need to dig in my paperwork to find this Wilks first name - I've moved and filed it away as a possiblilty so it's not on my computer.

Then I found Neal McDougle in the 1840 census in Catahoula living next to Simion Wilks (one of the Wilks in Copiah at the time). Today, through a fuzzy search, I found Neal in Jefferson County in 1850 with Mary living with him and the children. There's two men listed under Mary's name as McDougles, but I'm wondering if they're not really Wilks. (They weren't in Neal's home in the 1840 census.

I guess I need to check Jefferson Co. to see if Mary happened to leave a will.

Terri

We are searching for more on our Daniel McDougal who was supposedly born in N.C.(possibly Cumberland Co.) who had a son Archibald in 1809 or 1810. This son married Sarah Gilmore in Conecuh Co., Alabama about 1834. Does this sound familiar? Thanks, Weylon

I am wondering if you are in any way related to the MCDOUGALD line I am searching for. Alexander Dove MCDOUGALD married Mary E. BRONSON [BRUNSON]. They both died in Palmetto, Manatee Co., FL. They had two known children: Millard A. [b. July 17, 1889 FL] & Jesse Colby [b. Nov 26, 1893 -d Oct 24, 1955 Palmetto, Manatee Co, FL]. Jesse had two [2] known sons Vaughan [b.c. 1919] & Jesse, Jr [b.c. 1921]. There was also one [1] known daughter. Wife of Jesse, Sr. was Mary J. [maiden name unknown]. They either seperated or divorced. Looking forward to hearing from you.
