I too am looking for Mc/MacDougalls in Bridgeville. My great-great-grandfather was an Alexander MacDougall, born 1861 in the Antigonish area of Nova Scotia. He died before 1901 in Bridgeville, N.S. He was married to a Flora MacDonald. I think I've found him in an 1871 census living with his parents, Hugh and Catherine MacDougall, along with siblings Duncan, Jessie, Jane, Sarah Ann, James and Christina. Does this match up with any of your MacDougalls?

Settled on Lot 18 Prince Edward Island, owned by Stewarts of Campbellton. He married Marion McKay also a passenger on the same ship.He died 1819

Hi Ross, please excuse me for inserting myself into the conversation. Are you speaking of John Field McDougall who married Mary Vreeland (daughter Imogene Camilla McDougall)? John is a first cousin to be and i'm very interest in the McDougall line. I can go back to Duncan who came over from Scotland with a number of brothers. I would appreciate it if you would share info on McDougalls you might have. Also, would you please contact John's grand daughter and see if she would share info? I also have tombstone photos of his parents and some of his brothers. I also have original oil portraits (about 36 x 30") of his parents hanging in my dining room. Thanks!

As I have continued my searching......I have found who Charles McDougall was married to. Back then it was a Rachelle but did not know the last name.

I have since found that it is Glende. She was Indian and they lived around the Winona, Mn area. I believe this is who you were asking about.

I have a Duncan McDougall that married Mary Campbell (daughter of Peter) at Kilmorich, Argyll, Scotland in 1823 if that is of any help.

I don't have any information on her in paticular, sorry, but I just wanted to tell you that my name is Lillian McDougall also, and I never expected anyone else's name to be like mine, but I'm sorry I can't help you in your search for her past, but I hope you find what you seek. But the clan McDougall is originally from Scotland and the name means "son of the dark/black stranger"... But if you have ever heard of 'the scottish games' we, the McDougalls, have our own clan tent there. But i'm not sure that will be of any help. Well good luck.

I'm looking for information on the same man and incident. Much of his family tree is on the website gulbangi.com.

According to my grandfather Great great uncle George started his adventure by panning for gold in the ballast of ships in San Francisco Harbor. He found out that the ballast dirt had come from Patagonia so he went there and did find gold, but he was sick. In Grandpa's story it was his brother who found him. And George did go back.
But I think the friend is more likely since his brother Commander David McDougal did not seem to be in the Pacific at the time.

Hi Scott, This is the 2nd reply I have posted to you today. I don't know if you will receive the 1st one. Great to hear from another branch of the family. I do have a lot of information I have gathered on the internet about Laughlan and Annie's family, but any further information would be most welcome. My branch of the family is from Angus MacDougall, the youngest son. Do you know where Margaret McLean, Laughlan's mother, is buried? I have heard it is on Manitoulin Isl. but have no proof of this. Do you have any information about where the family lived before coming to Canada. You probably know that the family came to Canada from Tiree on the Conrad ship. 8 of the MacDougall's came over at that time in 1851. Any information you can give me would be most welcome. I have an Elizabeth McDougall born c1853 Gateshead Tyne and Wear in my family tree.
On 25 December she married George Waite Brett in St Mary's Church Gateshead.
Her father is listed on her marriage cert as Alexander McDougall, a Shoemaker.
I am unable to find out any other info about Elizabeth and her family from before her wedding.

Looking for information on Alexander Mac or McDougall. He married Flora McDonald (MacDonald) and had three children: Catherine MacDougall(born Sept 26, 1885); Alexander Frances MacDougall, born 27 Sept. 1887 and died in April 14, 1955 in Trenton, N.S.; and Mary Agnes MacDougall, born 19 June 1898. Alexander Sr. died sometime between 1897 and 1901. Looking for more information on him and his ancestors.
Flora McDonald was born in 2 Oct. 1860 in North River, Antigonish Co., NS. She was the daughter of Ann (b. 1820 in Antigonish co.) and Alexander McDonald (born in Scotland).
Alexander Jr. married Margaret Mary Elizabeth Lawlor and lived in Trenton, N.S.

I'm researching my gggrandfather's line. He was Alex MacDougall, but I've just found him listed in a 1901 census as Alex McDougall, born in 1887. His mother was Flora (McDonald) and he had two sisters, Catherine and Mary Agnes McDougall. His father, Alexander McDougall, died quite young, before 1901. Anyhow, I found tAlex Jr., his mother and 2 sisters on an immigration form visiting Port Huron, Michigan in 1907.

On the 1910 census Mn., Morrison,Royalton is Peter B. McDougall age 58 born in Canada wife Elizabeth 48 born in
Canada. Oldest son Peter A. 27 born in Canada and 4 other children born in Minnesota. Carrie,William,Blaine,and Wallace. If the younger Peter A.was born in Canada. It is unlikely this family was here in 1850. The younger Peter moved to Duluth MN. Wife Mabel Daughter Jean born 1917-1918.

I only received one correspondence. Feel free to use my email address sm1763@sympatico.ca.. I am not the historian from Dad's family, but have taken some interest lately. I know of at least a couple of Dad's cousins that have gone to Scotland. I will look for more information but what my Dad could remember was ... The Isle of Tyree, west coast of Scotland, Oben ... I haven't looked it up so I am not sure what it all means. Apparently a ferry has to be taken? FYI - There is quite a large tree under Lauchlan (or Lauglan) and Annie McCannell, but not many carrying the McDougall name. Our branch was shortened to Mc while others still use the Mac. I done a quick search for the burial place for Margaret McLean, but no luck. Dad has an aunt still living here, ... she might know some details.

I get google alerts for McDougall Isle of Jura. I have only recently got your query of 2006 about Angus McDougall. You may already have had a reply.

My wife is a McDougall.

Her G-G-Grandfather was John McDougall born Isle of Jura 29 August 1819 the illegitimate son of Malcolm McDougall and Janet McLeod.

They had another son Angus McDougall born Isle of Jura 2 January 1814 lawful son of Malcolm McDougall and Janet McLeod.

This Angus is the only one shown on the parish records for Jura between 1800 and 1825.

I can trace John's line on from his marriage to Mary McKinnon at the Gaelic Church in Paisley Renfrewshire.

I have not traced Malcolm (father) or Angus (brother) since Jura.

A Ghastly Sight

Abilene, Texas, January 29 - T. A. B. McDougall returned home this afternoon at 5:30 o'clock from his work. On entering the house he was horrified to find his wife dead upon the floor. Blood stood in great pools about her. But little investigation of the surrounding was required to show that she had taken her own life. She had shot herself with a pistol, the ball entering the right ear. The supposition is that she secured the pistol from the house of Mr. Hilton while the family were absent and that she committed the act about 2 or 3 o'clock in a fit of insanity, ti which she has been subject for the past few weeks. Her 3 month old babe was found in a cradle in the adjoining room and seemed to have been carefully placed there. Mrs. McDougall had dressed herself neatly and apparently had deliberately committed the deed. She was about 30 years old.

My great-great-grandmother was Catherine Sofia Myford McDougall, the daughter of William and Elizabeth McDougall. She was born about 1831, and married Charles Mortimer Plum in New York City on April 6, 1851. Per the announcement in the New York Herald, her father was deceased by that time. She died in California on May 14, 1904. I don't know much else about her origins. Anyone heard of her?

Hi Gary,

Where are your McDougall's located? My mother was a McDougall and her line traces back through the Borders. Almost every McDougall I have seems to have been connected with Gordon at some point in their life, either B, M or D. If you have any connection there I would be very interested.
