Haven't been intouch with him in many years, know he has posts on here though.
The original post on this thread was posted by Stephen McDougle. He very sadly passed away in May. I worked closly with him on our line and will answer what I can.
KARON

My McDougle line is from Lumpkin Co, GA area. The names come from a hand written family history written by Joseph McDougle, son of John McDougle and Sarah Gaddis.
John is the son of Daniel McDougle and Sarah Unk. Daniel died before 1827 as his younger children were listed as orphans on the land lottery in Georgia.
KARON

The John McDougle who married Sarah Gaddis that I refer too had four sons as well as himself that served in the Civil war : Joseph, Sydney, James C. and John M. The next son in line is Benjamin and I don't know if he served in the civil war or not.
Benjamin was born 1847, and died in Lawrence Co. Alabama. He married Savanah Mincy who died about 1900 and he later Mary Davis.
KARON
Sheri,
There is two McDougle lines. One married Sarah Chambliss and the other married Sarah Gaddis. My John who married Sarah Gaddis was born 24 December 1806.
Be careful because there are some researchers who have confused these two families.
The McDougle who married Sarah Chambliss family are from the Carolinas. If memory serves me correctly (this is from about 8 years ago) Mr Lee Cox is researching this family.
My Sarah Gaddis was born in 1813 married John in probably Union County in 1829. Sarah is the daughter of James Archibald Gaddis and Sarah Mills.
If you have any more questions fire away. I'll answer to the best of my knowlege.
KARON
Karon,
So many questions so little answers. The life of Genealogy!! You said that your Sarah Gaddis married a John. This would be John McDougal/McDougle b. Abt. 1803? Would you please share what information you have on your Sarah? The only information I have discovered thus far is that my John married Sarah Chambliss. The most difficult problems in tracing families is finding the correct spouse of the men.

Again, thank you so much for contacting me.

Sheri
Tauiekatsmom@aol.com

Karon,
Is it your belief that my John McDougall/McDougle married Sarah Gaddis and not Sarah Jane Chambliss? I haven't sent for Benjamin's Civil War records as of this date. You are correct that my McDougall/McDougle line is very strong in the Carolina's.
Sheri,
This family you talk about can easily be confused with the other McDougle family in the area (like the one that Stephen mentioned in the first post). But can soon be easily identified. I believe that your line is strong also in the Carolina's.
My John married Sarah Gaddis.

Have you got any more info on the Benjamin that served in the Civil war ?
KARON

McDougle and Palmer in GA,SC and AL

Hello,

I am searching for the McDougle and Palmer families. My ggrandmother was Mary Luvenia McDougle. She married Wiley Jefferson Palmer on 10.19.1854 in Marion Co., GA. Their daughter, Julia Virginia married Alexander Neal McDougle. Julia was the sister of my ggrandfather, William Perry Palmer. These two families must have traveled together from SC, GA, AL, MS. LA and TX.

My ggrandmother, Rosa Belle Lee married William Perry Palmer. Her sister, Abgail (Abbie) Lee married William Archibald (Will) McDougle.

Are all three of three McDougle's related? I have several McDougle family pictures along with a newspaper article.

Any information would greatly be appreciated.

Sheri Polk-Herrick

McDougle/Palmer/Lee

Yes, all these McDougles are related.

Mary Luvenia McDougle who married Wiley Jefferson Palmer is a younger sister to John C. McDougle who married Mary Atkins McDonald.

Wiley and Mary Palmer's child Julia Virginia Palmer married John and Mary McDougle's child Alexander Neal McDougle.

Therefore, Julia Virginia Palmer and Alexander Neal McDougle were first cousins.

Alexander Neal McDougle's younger brother is William Archibald McDougle. Therefore, William Perry Palmer is also a first cousin of Alexander Neal and William Archibald McDougle. So it appears sisters (Abigail Lee and Rosa Belle Lee) married first cousins (William Archibald McDougle and William Perry Palmer).

My family line is through another sibling of Mary Luvenia McDougle and John C. McDougle, thru their oldest brother William Chambliss McDougle who married Jane W. McDonald (and yes Jane McDonald and Mary McDonald are related). What a close-knit family!

According to my calculations, you and my dad are 4th cousins.
