Have you tried the spelling McGechan? Our tree originates from Ayr and then Paisley in Scotland - Can't say Thomas is a name I have come across, but the earliest members I have are James McGechan (occ Paisley shawl maker) and Katherine Liddle. (his father was also James and was a stonemason - and on his death certificate his wife (no Christian name) but maiden name was Dick. We think it may have been Jean as the second daughter was Jean.
