Bible Record of Francis McEwen and Sarah Ann (Surname unclear)

This is not my McEwen line but this Bible Record was passed on to me several years ago. It is a handwritten copy directly from a Bible and came through an Albert McEwen that worked with my brother at Sun Oil Company in Toledo.

Francis born Feb 8, 1798 or 1802.
Sarah Ann - no dates I read this is as wells or walts and a later bit of information said Keller. It does not look like Keller to me but it is very dim.

Children: Nancy Jane McEwen Oct 1837
William Henry McEwen 5 May 1839
Mary Catharine McEwen July 1840
James Ervin McEwen 13 Nov 1841
Margaret Elizabeth McEwen 27 March 1843
George Thomas McEwen 6 May 1844
Agnes Lucinda McEwen 6 Sep. 1845
John Francis McEwen 11 Oct. 1847
Robert Smith McEwen 18 Sep. 1849
Sumner Andrew McEwen 8 Feb 1851 (died age 3)
Lemuel Winfield McEwen 20 Nov 1854
Austin Sylvester McEwen 1857
Alfred Bennett McEwen 1 Aug 1860

This family can be found in Wayne County, Ohio 1840 census (Perry township) and in 1850 also Wayne County, Ohio (Plain township).

I believe that Mary Thanie McEwen is the daughter of Robert Bort and wife Rachel McEwen of Gwinnet County, Georgia. I have tried to e-mail privately several people who have posted trees in the last few years of the Robert Bort McEwen ancestors and descendants but they have all bounced. Mary Thanie was born in 1814 in Gwinnett County and married Eli Ballard there about 1836. Is there anyone who can corroborate the theory that she is the daughter of Robert and Rachel McEwen?

This may be the same individual who shows up as Alexander McCown in the 1840 Williamson County, Tennessee census with slightly older children. Any information on this individual or his offspring would be appreciated. Please answer this posting or contact Rick McEuen, 623 E. 7th, York, NE 68467, or rgmceuen@alltel.net , or r-g-mceuen@juno.com

Looking for information on William McEwen (McKeown), 1798 - 1880, married Jane Haburn (Habourne? Haywood?); two sons sailed on "Sarah" from Londonderry to St. John, NB in 1838 (surname on customs list as McKeown). One, James (1818-1899) married Elizabeth Walker (1820-1913); their son Henry Hebron McEwen (1863-1943) married Elizabeth Frances Hamilton (1872-1923); and, their son William James Delmont McEwen (1901-1939) was my great-grandfather. Have not been able to find more on the first known William, or his spouse Jane (writing on records is difficult to discern -- could have been Haywood).

TN Levi McEwen b 1825 Henderson CoTn obit

Not related to below family.

Carroll County Democrat
Huntingdon, Tennessee
Friday, April 5, 1895

Huntingdon’s Mayor
After an illness of six weeks, LEVI MCEWEN, mayor, one of our oldest and highly respected citizens, died at his residence on Nashville Street, at 8L00 from consumption, age 69 years. His death was not unexpected. He quietly went to sleep with his wife, son and daughter, and other relatives gathered around.

Mayor McEwen was born in Henderson County 1825, and during his residence in that county, held the offices of sheriff and county court clerk for a number of years. He moved here in 1870 and was prominently identified in business interests until 1888 when he was chosen mayor of this town, which he has filled most efficiently.

He was married in 1848 to MISS FRANCES THOMAS, who survives him. To this union, four children were born, two of whom, MRS. ELLEN ALGEE and JOHN D. MCEWEN, are living, the other two died some years ago. He was a man of high character…

Burial service was conducted at residence yesterday afternoon at 3:30, by REV. J. W. WATERS, burial at Clark cemetery. All business houses were closed.

DATA: McEwen, R. listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):

McEwen, R.

There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.

If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

He married (1) abt. 1 Sep 1807 Adeline (or Abigail) Nims, dtr. of Israel Nims and Ruth Childs, I think. She was b 18 Aug 1784 in Conway, Franklin, Massachusetts, and d bef 1812 (when Elihu married again). He married (2) in 1812, Lucy Chandler, b 19 Apr 1791, Wilmington, Windham, Vermont, & she & Elihu had 7 children between 1814 and 1832.
I know of only one child of Elihu & Adeline: Adeline Nims McEwen, b Sep 1808, d 18 Mar 1847 Oneida Lake, Oswego, New York. She married Jan 1829, Oneida Lake, Oswego, New York, Richard Bushnell, b 12 Apr 1807 Middletown, Westbrook, Connecticut, and died abt 1882 Crystal Lake, McHenry, Illinois. Richard was a shoemaker & farmer. Adeline McEwen and Richard Bushnell had many children.

Carol Anne McEwen

I am trying to find Carol Anne McEwen, born to Robert and Lorene Pifer in Mansfield Ohio in the early 1940's. She had a brother named Robert Eugene and he was born in 1940. Lorene died in approximately 1946 and Robert and Carole were adopted in Dade County Florida by their maternal grandmother Grace McEwen and her husband Carl who was in the plumbing business. I do not have any information on Carols whereabouts or her married name but our family would desperately like to reach her with regards to health issues and genetic markers. Her brother Robert was my husband and father of our two kids, and he is deceased. My daughter has some health concerns that only Carol could address as we have no information from Roberts side of the family with exception to what is listed above . Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you...Gayle McEwen

More info on Rufus Gardner McEwen

I found Rufus G. McEwen in the 1870 and 1860 census. He must have used a nick name off his middle name because in 1870 he's listed as Gard McCuan. I'm sure its Rufus because with him is wife Mary (Mary Jane Grisham McEwen) and his first 5 kids, complete with the right ages. He's in Hamilton Co. TN, District 10 Subdivision 43. This is just west of his birth county of Bradley. Also in his household is blind 65 year old Melinda McCuen, who I would guess is his mother. In 1860 I found him in Bradley Co., TN, with wife Mary and their oldest son. They're listed in the household of Mary's mother Emelia E. Grisham. If anyone finds him in 1850, PLEASE contact me or post a repley to this message

To all Ewens/Eoghains in North America:

We will not only rise again; we will rise above!

There’s going to be a formative gathering of those Eoghains (Ewen, MacEwan, Ewing, McEwen, and all other descendant derivations of that Gaelic original) in North America who want to form a Clan Eoghain Society branch on this continent. It will be at Marquette, Michigan, on the weekend of July 24th at the EconoLodge, Lakeside, (906)-225-1305. We invite you to spread the word among parents, brothers, sisters, cousins, and Eoghain derivative friends who would like the camaraderie of their cousins and maybe some communal research into our great genealogy. All are welcome.

Our International Clan Ewen Society chairman is Lynn Gehling who can be contacted via e-mail; address located on the Clan Ewen Society website ---

http://www.clanewensociety.org
Robert McEwen

This is to all those McEwen researchers who persist in claiming a connection between one Elizabeth McEwen, wife of William P. Evans, and one Robert McEwen in Georgia. There is no documentation that proves or even suggests a connection between these two people. There is much claimed about this Robert that is clearly false such as that he was a veteran of the Revolutionary War and received land in Georgia for that service. Fact #1 Robert was not born until 1777(see 1850 Census) ergo he could not have fought in the war unless he threw up on a British soldier! Fact #2 He never received a land grant in Georgia for war service but did draw for land in the Georgia Land lotteries as a resident of the state for 3 years. It is also claimed that he was a Reverend but I have never seen anything that would support that claim.

McEwen to McEuen in Arkansas

I am looking for my Husband's side of the family line. We are not able to find very much do to the fact most do not talk about their family history. My husband is Dale McEuen
His father Fred B. McEuen, His father Fred B. McEuen Sr., That is as far as we can go. We do know there was a name change for some reason from McEwen to McEuen. We have some names but are not able to link them together yet. A Rufus McEwen, Others are a Buck McEuen which we think is Fred Sr's father. Ed McEuen. I was told by my Husband's Aunt this information. Her Dad came from Garner in White Co. That is Fred Sr. His mother's name was Susan Emma or Emma Susan. His dad was nicknamed Buck because he was always hunting and was very tall. His name could be Justin. He died from a gunshot wound to the head. Fred Sr. Had two brother one Ed who was diabetic and died before she was born the other one was Oscar (Blackie).

I have to have more names of family to link all these together but no one is talking please help if you can.
I was told also some were from Searcy AR.

Margaret McEwen Scotland early 1800's

Hi I'm trying to see if anyone can help me track down my wifes' gr gr gr grandmother Margaret McEwen. All I know about her is that she married Joseph McMeeken (often shows up as McMeekan or even McMikeir) I know they were married in 1829 in Ballantrae, Ayrshire, Scotland. Therefore I'm guessing that Margaret was born some time just after the turn of the century. Does this ring any bells with with anyone? If so please let me know.

Thanks
Dave
I am in search of any information on a Blaine McEwen. He was marrried to my great aunt Bertha ( Bo) Clayton. The 1930 census show him and Bertha living in Pa. and that his parents were from Pa. They (Blaine and Bertha) never had any children while married. I am told that Blaine died but I don't know when or where. Any information on him would be of great help . I am more than happy to share what I have on the Clayton side.
Thanks
Billie
