McEwing of Scotland

Gladys Woodburn  (View posts) Posted: 13 Oct 2005 3:00AM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: McEwing, Findley, Sherk, Learn, Woodburn
My Great Grandmother's sister was Janet McEwing - Married to David McEwing. My GGrandmother wrote many articles and letters to me regarding the family. I also have pictures and funeral cards for these McEwings. However, I only have info back to David. Janet was born 1799, David around 1795. I just started doing my family history in March of this year and my mother gave me all my grandmothers letters, bibles, pictures, articles etc. My grandmother lived on the family farm in Crowland Twsp, (Welland, Niagara Falls). The farm was given to my grandmother's family from Queen Victoria as crown land. The farm was granted to Andrew Findley who died before living there (I have the whole story on this) and his brother James Findley came from Sterlingshire Scotland to the Farm (I have a whole story on this too). James Findley's daughter Mary Findley married David McEwing (b 1835)- son of David and Janet McEwing (noted above). I have info on all the current family. Another daughter of James Findley - Margaret Findley married my GGrandfather - Alanson Learn. Alanson's son James Alexander (my grandfather) married Edith Sherk (who wrote all the letters and history of all the families). I have many pictures to go through (most have names on back - some don't). If I can I will post any pictures of McEwings on this site in future dates if anybody wants them.
Now any help I can get on David's parents would be appreciated (I think his father was William but not sure). His wife Janet was from Dumbartonshire Scotland.

I am also reasearching my husband's family with very little success as I have NO info at all. He was born in Ireland but his family evidently originated in the Ayreshire area of Scotland. His name is Woodburn (his father's name was Woodbyrne but he changed it to Woodburn - I am told because it was originally Woodburn?) If anyone has info on this name it would be really appreciated.
