Reportedly born about 1710-1730 in County Antrim, Ireland, yet his immigration and arrival in America is undocumented. Said to come to the Colonies via Nova Scotia to Pennsylvania to Chester District, SC. His Plantation was said to be near Roswell Station. Possibly the brother of John McFadden "of Rocky Creek." His ownership of land (if any) also seems to be undocumented. And his date of death (sometime before 1790) and burial site is unknown. Yet, what is known is that he married Mary Hannah Guy?. Their children were:

Isaac McFadden (b. ca. 1753 in SC - d. 1820 in SC) A lifelong resident of Chester Co., SC. On the 1790 Census of Chester Co. with wife, four sons, two daughters, and most likely one of his younger brothers. Married (first) Elizabeth Steele (1763-1802), and (second) Mary Crawford(?). Nine children by first wife. Seven children by second wife. Revolutionary War veteran with the Light Dragoons under General Thomas Sumter and Col. Henry Hampton. Later attained the rank of major. Was one of the signers to the statement noting the death of John McFadden at the Battle of Hanging Rock in AUG 1780.

Mary McFadden (b. 1757 in SC - d. 1836 in Stewart Co., TN, but reportedly buried in Christian Co., KY) Married Samuel McKinney (1742 SC - 1792 TN). One son identified.

Guy McFadden (b. ca. 1764 in SC - d. 1835 Tipton Co., TN) Married Jane McCuller (1768 - 1858). Removed to Davidson Co., TN, by 1808, and to Tipton Co., TN, after 1830. Nine children.

Ralph McFadden (b. 1766 in SC - d. 1830 in SC) A lifelong resident of Chester Co. Known as a "backwoods lawyer" was a Justice of the Peace. Married Mary McKinney (1767-1856) in 1786. Twelve children. On the 1790 Census of Chester Co. with wife, one son, two (?) daughters, and most likely one of his brothers.

Candor (or Candour) McFadden (b. 1768 in SC - d. OCT 1831 Williamson Co., TN) Arguably a son of Candor McFadden. Reportedly married a Jane (or Jean) McFadden. Removed to Tennessee. Poorly documented. No children known.

Trying to solve a mystery about this person.
George can be found in the 1900 census living as a ward in the household of George W. & Nancy Gooley in Brown Co., IL. He was born 12/1885 in IL. When he married Charlotte/Nellie Craig in 1914 in Brown Co., IL., he went by the name of McFadden. Sometime before the 1920 census he started going by the last name Gooley. Death records and cemetery records show him as Gooley.
Any information would be helpful.

Bev.
My 4th great grandfather was William McFadden born approx.
1745-47 in Ireland. Came to America, had application & surveyed for 200 acres in Fishing Creek, Chester Co. SC
Rec'd land in 1770. Wife's name was Anne. He was American Rev. War Patriot. Sold land and moved to Dutchman's Creek in 1775. Suspected brother of Candour, Edward, Robert, John and Mary McFadden Bigham. Although I believe Candour may be an uncle to William. Children are as follows:
Ann born approx. 1768-69
Hannah born approx, 1770-71
Rachel born 1774
Elisha born 1777
Mary born 1779
Rebecca born 1780
Jesse born 1782
William died in 1790 and Anne died in 1794.
If you have any info on any of these, I would appreciate it.
Thanks
Debbie
ddwest2489@bellsouth.net

Bill,
You appeared with many of my family names listed when I was searching for Farnon. They were from Co Antrim and co.Down. John Farnon from Tullylish was my greatgrandfather, married to Grace Girven(Gerven,Gervan)Take your pick. She would also appear as Grace McBurney since whe was a widow when she married Farnon. I know all these names from my father's family. He had cousins Hooks,Quinn and Mitchell on his mother's side and Gillespies on his paternal side.
The irony is that my mother's mother lived where your McFaydens were from- the Gorbals.

I will have to get to the root of this.

My g-grandmother, JULIA MCFADDEN b.circa 1845 in County Donegal and d. 1909 in Philadelphia, has a MANUS McFADDEN and ELLEN BROGAN listed as parents on her Death Certificate. She emigrated to Phila in 1868 on ship Mohongo from Londonderry. Siblings include HUGH b. 1834, FRANK(FRANCIS) b. 1846, DENNIS b. 1857 and SARAH b. 1863 - all in Irl. These McFADDENS lived mostly in Port Richmond area, attended St. Anne's RC church and worked in shipyards. Dennis however is employed at US Mint in 1900 US Census.

Julia married PETER SHERIDAN b. circa 1845 in Irl. They were married in 1872 at St. Anne's with SOPHIA McFADDEN and DENNIS McFADDEN as witnesses. Records from St. Anne's provided these names as godparents of their children: Sophia McFadden, Dennis McFadden, Manus McFadden, Francis McFadden, James McBride, Anna Weetes, Anna McFadden, Hugh McFadden, Mary Logue, Ellen McFadden and Mary Ann McCloskey.

My McFaddens are probable cousins of the Manus and Margaret FERRY McFADDENS living on Salmon St in 1870 US Census. Their children included John, Sophia, Unity, Dominic, James and Margaret.

Contact me at sevenfoxes@cox.net, if any of this sounds familiar.
I am researching JULIA McFADDEN SHERIDAN who emigrated from Donegal to Philadelphia in 1868. Her certificate of death records her parents as MANUS McFADDEN and ELLEN BROGAN. She is connected with the many MCFADDENS living in the Port Richmond area of Philadelphia and associated with St. Anne's RC Parish. Her siblings include Hugh b. 1834, Frank(Francis) b.1846 , Sarah b.1853 and Dennis b.1847 . They all were born in Donegal and emigrated to Philadelphia bet. 1855-1880. Do you have connection with this line? Bill Fox

Looking for Hugh Mc Fadden born 14 Sept 1907 to Patrick Mc Fadden & Agnes Flattery in Letterkenny, Co Donegal. Family history indicates that he and his mother, Agnes, left for the USA shortly after the death of his father in 1909. His older sister Norah was adopted by a maternal uncle. Despite wide ranging searches I have been unable to find any trace of them. Hugh was the brother of my maternal grandmother Norah Mc Fadden. She was Agnes ‘Aggie’ Flattery and she married Patrick Mc Fadden on 15 Feb 1904 in the chapel in Glenswilly. Patrick was the son of Hugh Mc Fadden and Fanny Diver. Patrick had two brothers Edward and James and a sister Mary. Patrick and Agnes had three children Honoria ‘Nora’ (my grandmother), Charles and Hugh. Charles died when only six weeks old. Patrick sadly died in 1909 and Nora went to live with her uncle Charles Flattery in Main street, Letterkenny. I have been searching for Agnes and her son Hugh for a long time now but to no avail.

Denis Coll was the brother of my paternal great grandmother, Bridget Coll. Bridget married Michael Duffy in the chapel in Mevagh on 1 Feb 1887. Bridget died on 18 Sept 1945 and Michael, 12 days later, on 30 Sept 1945 both at home in Tirlaughin. My father was present at both deaths. Denis immigrated to New York on 2 May 1899 and assisted in the immigration of a number of his nieces and nephews (Duffys). He settled in Philadelphia, married Mary P and had 10 children. He died in Germantown on 29 Aug 1938. I’m sure you already know all this!!

I was born in Letterkenny in 1950. My paternal grandmother was Bella Duffy, daughter of Michael Duffy and Bridget Coll. Bella married Francis Mc Gurren on 27 Oct 1921 in the church in Carrigart. They had one child Francis Mc Gurrin, my father, born 19 June 1923. My father married Anne Margaret Sweeney on 5 July 1948 in St Eunan’s in Letterkenny. My mother’s parents ran the ‘Fingerpost’ public house in Illistrin. My family left Letterkenny for Sligo when I was 12. I moved to London in 1968 and now live in Surrey. I remember well my time in Letterkenny, with my summer holidays in Downings with the Duffys (Anton Duffy who married Sarah Mc Bride). Anton and Sarah lived in the Rosapenna cottages.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Frank
Re: Connecting this Family Bible to my McFadden and McGuigan ancestors

I have just read your message of 2 May 2008!!

I have a few comments.
Forson should be Forson throughout. I have seen most of the birth marriage and death certificates for the Forson family and the following is a corrected version of the children of Matilda McGuigan and Peter Forson:
Cecilia Forson (born April 15, 1902 – died aged 17 months, Oct 11, 1903 – RIP), -Minnie Forson, (born June 28. 1904 – died 38 days, August 5, 1904 – RIP) and Ellen Forson (born June 27, 1904 – died aged 6 weeks, August 9, 1904 – RIP). They were twins. Alexander Forson (born December 4, 1905 - died aged 24, June 21, 1930), John Forson (born November 15, 1907 – drowned aged 17, July 24, 1925), Peter Forson (born February 12, 1910 – died aged 14, June 16, 1924), Mary Ann Forson (born September 23, 1911.)

I am also interested in the Darrochs. Peter Forson, the elder, was staying with them in 1881 (the five Darrochs in the census are the same five names as you give deaths for) and Peter Forson the younger was christened Peter Darroch Forson. Do you know of any connections between the Darrochs and the Forsons and/or Mcguigans. I have not been able to trace any relationship.

And secondly, do you know anything of Mary Ann Forson. She emigrated to Amber USA on a permanent visa (May 1922, aged 10) to stay with her uncle John McFaden in Amber. After that I can find no trace of her

Let me know if I can give any help on the Forsons

Andrew Forson

andrew@forsonag.demon.co.uk
Mariah McFadden shot by daughter in law Jennie Moss

I am searching for family of this individual:
William Sherman Moss. He and his mother Mariah McFadden were shot by his wife Jennie Moss with a pistol on Aug. 4, 1917.
I have not been to the library to find out anything from a newspaper article. I have added only the death certificates on line at findagrave.com the Hazelwood Cemetery, Springfield, Greene, MO.
You will find him as William Sherman Moss born 1867 and death date as above.
His mother listed as Mariah McFadden, 1833, and I have not a clue if she remarried, divorced took back her surname or for that matter never married. With the death date listed above.
Maybe family looking for this branch, or perhaps family out there that knows about them, but either way would like to get some information about the tragedy.
