Looking for any information on a James McFadgen b: 1827.
He is shown on the 1851 Scotland Census as nephew to Joseph McFadgen b: 1805.
Joseph is my Great Great Great Grandfather and the name changed a lot until it reached it’s current version: McFadden, once a couple of brothers emigrated to the USA.
Other variations of the name (and I believe this is pretty much in good order: McFadzen, McFadzean, McFadgen, McFadyen, McFadden). It is my understanding that the Joseph I speak of was born in Ireland as was his father John. From my research it is entirely possible that the original name back in Ireland was MacFadzean. This is a rare name and the people were from the Belfast area.
The existence of James in this census is my only evidence of another ‘branch’ in my tree.
If it is correct, then my Great Great Great Grandfather had a brother and I would love to try and trace that branch down and reconnect with modern day relatives.

Thank you in advance for any information you can offer,

Kevin McFadden
