I have a McFarland I don't know what to do with. This is Hiram H. McFarland, b. Sept. 1854 in Kentucky. His wife's name is Nancy A. (all I know). They had some 10 kids, and I have names for them as well as dates.

My husband's great-grandfather was Dr. William Jackson Bell, and his wife was Christeena (also with various spellings) McFarland (also spelled McFarlin -- this can vary from census to census). Hiram's name and a picture of him and one of him with three small sons turns up in the Bell Family Bible which I have.

Haven't been able to find him among any of the many McFarland/McFarlin/McFarlane posts.

Anybody know this man?

james mcfarlin/james larkin mcfarlin

James Larkin McFarlin born KY 1860 was the son of James McFarlin and Mary Jane Jones. James Larkin Mc Farlin married 3 times, once to a Martha Young, once to a Sarah Taylor (in Pemiscot Co. MO), the other unknown. He had daughter Cora by the unknown. She married a Samuel Cagle; a son, William David McFarlin, who died in OK in the 1920's, unmarried; three daughters Dollie, Jane and Elinor by Sarah Taylor. James Larkin McFarlin had a penchant for leaving his wives. According to mother sometime after 1910 they visited McFarlin relatives in Palestine Texas.
James McFarlin the father of James Larkin McFarlin left his wife Mary Jane Jones to go off with a niece, that is the family lore. He was supposed to have married the niece. That would have been after 1860 and very probably close to 1870.
So am trying to find information on both James (born North Carolina abt 1840)

I am trying to find parents and siblings of Rebecca McFarlin
she married Guy M Hatfield, at one time I thought her father was Fearless McFarlin. But I think he was her brother,(maybe not)
census records show Rebecca was born in 1866/1868 in Missouri. One census record says her parents were born in Ohio another census record says father Indiana and mother missouri
She also was married to a Williams and a Razey/Rozey.
Mary Jane Sitton writes" My grandmother (Mother of Earl P, and the three girls Edith, Ada and Elba) spent some of her later years with us, Her maiden name was Rebecca McFarlin. She married Guy Hatfield, was briefly married to a man named Williams and then married Silas Rozey/Razey and moved to a farm in Oklahoma. When he died she moved to Moffett and lived there until she died she was 98 years old."
(died around 1964???)
Please contact Sharon
sharonkayb@msn.com

Blassingame connection?

I'm researching my husband's family. He had a great-grandmother whose father was a McFarland (also sometimes spelled McFarlin, McFarlane). This g-grandmother, Sara Peel McFarland, named one of her kids Blassingame Harvey, and the name Blassingame persisted for a couple of generations, finally dropping to simply Blassie (who was female). In fact, some researchers think that Sarah's husband's father's name was Blassingame Harvey McFarland.

I'm wondering who the connection was that would bring in a family name like that with such persistence.

Oh -- dates. Sarah was born 1819 in Arkansas Territory; her husband was born 1815 in Clinton County, Kentucky; his father in 1780 in Virginia. He and Sarah died in Independence county Arkansas; one report says that Alexander died in California (the second in my husband's family to have gone out, presumably to seek for gold, and died out there).

I discovered my wife's great-great-grandfather in the 1850 census, and through the help of another researcher also connected the McFarlin and Medlock families in yet another way (there are various marriages between McFarlin's and Medlocks, already, in my current online tree...see below).

This census mentions other siblings of James Harvey McFarlin, so I thought I'd toss it out here and see if anybody has any matches for these. The census was from Lebanon Township, Lawrence County. In 1868, this part of Lawrence County was split off to form Sharp County. This area is between 4 and 10 miles northeast of Poughkeepsie.

HARVEY MCFARLIN was born Abt. 1810 in NC.
married
MARIAH <unknown> Abt. 1831. She was born Abt. 1810 in AL.
i. MARTHA TENNESSIE MCFARLIN, b. July 16, 1832, TN; d. February 10, 1922, Sharp Co., AR.
ii. THOMAS MCFARLIN, b. Abt. 1835, TN.
iii. JOHN H. MCFARLIN, b. Abt. 1840, TN.
iv. MAY N. MCFARLIN, b. Abt. 1842, AR.
v. JAMES HARVEY MCFARLIN, b. Abt. 1845, AR.; d. Bet. 1896 - 1897.
vi. MORANDA O. MCFARLIN, b. Abt. 1847, AR.

Martha married (1) Nicholas Norris and (2) Major H. Sanders. Her daughter Clementine Sanders married Carrol M. Medlock, who you will find in our online tree, referred to below.

James Harvey married (1) Janie Floyd, (2) Martha B. <unknown>, and (3) Matilda Ray.

James Harvey is shown here in our tree on RootsWeb:
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&...

Several of the dates there are wrong (James died in about 1897, and none of the children were born after that date, and he was born in 1845, per the census), but it's basically correct. I'll be updating that tree in the next couple of weeks.

So... If anybody has any further links into this family, we'd love to hear about them!

Looking for others researching McFarlane clan that settled in Simpson Co., Ky., 1830s. Our name started out as McFarland and changed to McFarlin. Family patriarch was Matthew McFarland, born 1803 in N.C. married Mary "Martha" Dick (she was born 1807 in N.C.). They had 13 children: Mathew, Martha, James, William G., Amos, Luke, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Nelson, Henry, Mary F., Peter and Frances. Amos was my great-great-great-grandfather--he gave birth to Marion Oliver McFarlin and he gave birth to Marion Amos McFarlin, Sr., who gave birth to Marion Amos McFarlin, Jr., (my father). The family stayed in Simpson Co. for many years (Matthew and Mary are buried there) and gradually moved westward, finally settling around Waco, Texas, where many live now.
I want to find out where in Scotland Matthew came from--I have hit a roadblock on that.

Does anyone know of a Neal McFarlin who married Flora? They had at least one child, my g-g-grandmother Sarah McFarlin who married Benjamin Franklin Woodard. I'm aware that there may be multiple spellings of the last name, but I thought I would start with this list!

I'm particularly interested to find out Flora's maiden name, but I'm also hoping to find Neal's parents.

Kirsten Nelson

...with 94 McFarlin's in it.

http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=SHOW&amp...

All McFarlin's in the tree from about 1890 to 1930 or so are from Arkansas, mostly in Craighead County, Poughkeepsie, Evening Shade, etc.

Love to find more connections to this one! Especially to
http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&...
He was *probably* born in Tennessee and may match up with other McFarlins who sort of "moved through" that area. Family legend says his parents and grandparents came from North Carolina, but we have no proof.
