A biography/family history of Arthur E. McFatridge is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3. His paternal ancestors were Scotch-Irish and his great grandfather came to the US from the north of Ireland.
Arthur was born, 8 May 1867, to John and Nancy (Wyatt) McFatridge, b. 1832 and 1836, Jefferson County, IN, respectively. John died, 27 Jan 1898, Ripley County. Nancy died Jun 1909, Ripley County, IN. They had nine children.
Arthur was educated in Ripley County, IN, and graduated from Holton high school in 1885; attended Southern Indiana Normal College at Mitchell. For ten years he worked as a teacher in Indiana, but resigned in Jan 1898 to become an Indian school teacher. He spent 4 years on the Rosebud Reservation in SD; two years on the Winnebago Reservation in NE; three years as Indian agent on the Umatilla Reservation in OR. In 1910 he located to Montana as agent of the Blackfoot Reservation for five years at Browning, MT. In 1915, Arthur founded and became editor and publisher of the Blackfoot Review for two years. He then located to Helena as clerk to the State Board of Examiners.
In 1890, Holton, IN, Arthur married Miss Clara Cox, daughter of Squire and Martha (Murdock) Cox. The had one son, Leslie V., b. 9 Jul 1891, who graduated from Pendleton high school, OR, and managed a large mercantile business in Big Sandy, MT.
