Kay
Hi, can you give me some names and dates I may be able to help as I have traced several families and have them on my data base, in hope really that somewhere someone may link into me. Most of my family seems to have come from around the kirkpatrick duram area in kirkcudbright, but I have recently found these ones in ireland and most of the family seems to have either moved from the area or died there. I am really stuck on the earliest one william who obviously wasn't born in the area but I can not find his birth anywhere. my email is hannadj@bigpond.com maybe we can chat direct

Jenny

I am trying to find family history. My grandfather was Ralph E. McGaffic of Ohio. He (illegally) married my grandmother Ellen B. Newhouse also fo Ohio. My father was given Morgan as his last name rather than McGaffic for reasons having to do with the legality of the marriage. I know that my grandfather died in 1986. Any information that you can assist me with would be greatly appreciated.

Eric,

I don't have much on Hezekiah. I had little success
in researching him. I have copy of his death record
and info from various US census.

I have a copy of the Probate Court Record of Death,
for 18 June 1900. It says he was a farmer and died of
"Blood Poison" at age 73. He died in Lisbon, OH.

His wife, Sara (Pangburn) McGaffick, died 24 Feb 1915.
The East Palestine, OH, paper of 4 Mar 1915, has this
death announcement:

" Mrs. Sarah McGaffick - At the home of her daughter,
Mrs. Maud Johnson, Pittsburg, Mrs. Sarah McGaffick,
aged 88 years, a resident of Columbiana county for
many years, died Thursday, Feb. 25, after an illness
of several weeks. Survived by five daughters and
three sons among which latter is Frank McGaffick, of
Rogers. Funeral from the home of John Figley, Lisbon,
Sunday afternoon, Feb 28, Rev. H. S. Reichard, pastor
of the Lisbon Reformed church, officiating."

The Pangburns have an extensive genealogy on Rootsweb.
Sarah's father was John Pangburn and her mother was
Jane Young.

Hezekiah and Sarah had the following children, that I
know of...

Norval (my gggrandfather), born 8 Dec 1849
Nancy, born about 1853
Annie, born about 1856
Alice, born about 1857
John Thomas, born 11 April 1859 in Bridgewater, PA;
died 1 March 1934, in Center Twp, Columbiana Co, OH.
Married May Willis on 10 May 1883.
Matilda, born about 1859
Mary E., born about 1863 (I believe this is the "Maud"
in Sarah's death announcement.)
William Frank, born about 1864
Emma, born about 1868
Carrie, born Sep 1871, married to John Figley (host of
Sarah's funeral)

Through whom are you related to Hezekiah?

Keith

Benjemine McGuffock

I am a descendant of Benjemine McGuffock. The path is as follows: Benjamin McGaffick Jr. Born 12/31/1782, Died 1/26/1864; (Son) Robert McGaffick Born 1824, Died 11/11/1899; (Son) Benjamin McGaffick Born 1846, Died 1937; (Son) William McGaffic Born 1876, Died in the late 50s... Don't know that date at this minute and don't want to check as I would loose this message... Anyway, I have all information of all descendants from William on down... His only son, my grandfather is Johnathon McGaffic born 12/30/1912. John had 1 sibling, Ethel, who was born in 1902 and was his school teacher when he 7 years old on. John had 10 children, 2 which died in the first 3 years of life... 1 still born, the other died of whooping cough at the age of 3. There are 7 surviving children. I have all information for all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and I would be more than happy to share!

I also have found research and have some documentation for 90% of of Ben Jr's descendants... I am looking for any information on Benjemine McGuffock that anyone is willing to share. Preferrably, his parents and prior... I believe he had at least 2 sons by the name of Benjamin and Andrew. The names that I have found that meet the possible time frame of Benjemine's ancestor's is Robert McGuffock and a brother William McGuffolk which shared land boundries in 1762. William McGuffolk had 2 sons, Joseph and John McGuffock. The name changes are KILLING ME!!! This can be verified through Chester County, Pennsylvania Mills, property records. I hope to here from anyone that has any possible information, regardless of how remote int may sound.

Thank you in advance... If you are still reading responses, please review this message and respond to henrymore2@cs.com or (better) xxt@sbcglobal.net.

Margaret (sometimes Margret) A. McGaffic, born 1841, probably in Beaver County, PA married Samuel M. Smith, a farmer, also born 1841 in Lawrence County, PA and they farmed in New Brighton, PA. They had 3 children: Annie, David H. and Laura C. Annie never married (it appears), Laura married a John Henderson and they were living in 1920 in Fallston near New Brighton, PA. In October 1919, David H. Smith married Elspeth (but usually called Elsie) McKilligan or MacKilligan who had emigrated from Aberdeen, Scotland in 1910 to Fallston. David and Elsie, together and separately, lived in Fallston. Elsie raised two sons called David McKilligan Smith (b. 1920) and Harold McKenzie Smith (b. 1922). My wife Adelle (b. 1948) is the only child of Harold Smith.

Elsie MacKilligan was preceded to PA by her brother John MacKilligan who emigrated from Scotland in 1905, to be followed by another sister Elizabeth McKilligan in 1906. When John emigrated or very soon after, he appears to have married someone unknown and taken as step-son her son born in 1905. He was called Thomas McKilligan. Thomas is listed in the 1930 census as married to a woman by the name of Irene. It seems he died in 1990.

When reading your message I was struck by the Margret McGaffic of Beaver, PA married to a Thomas McKilligan. Is it possible that there is some sort of connection? Is "Thomas McKilligan" the same person? Please note that the spelling of McKilligan and MacKilligan seems to be almost interchangeable. I'm sure the same is true of McGaffic.....

Sincerely,

Henry More
xxt@sbcglobal.net

Thank you very much for the information. In the last few weeks I have been trying to track down "glolen@eriecoast.com" [also called "Gloria C. of Ohio"] who posted some messages a couple of years ago on rootsweb concerning Alexander Thomson Fraser and Ann Stewart Fraser. She said she was Alexander Fraser's great grand-daughter and that Alexander was a musician who was sponsored to come over by a man named Riddle (possibly Riddell? and also from Aberdeen?), owner of a tavern or taverns in PA who needed entertainers. John MacKilligan gave his contact in New Brighton as "Alec Fraser" when he came through Ellis Island in 1905, he also being an Aberdonian. I have not found Alexander Fraser coming through Ellis Island but I did find Ann Fraser and 4 children for 21 June 1903, the youngest child being only a few months old. The next child, Thomas, was born in 1905 and was, yes, adopted by John - but who was John's wife: Janet?? - not a step-son as I had originally stated. Curiously, if the middle name of "Thomson" is correct, then there might be a family connection between John MacKilligan and Alex Fraser back in Aberdeen. Just yesterday I posted a message on the Rootsweb "PA, Beaver Co" message board trying to find "glolen" or any additional information about Alexander and Ann Fraser.

Do you know of a connection between Virgie McGaffick's parents and Margaret Ann McGaffick (same generation)? Margaret McGaffick married Samuel Smith and she was the daughter of Andrew McGaffick and Ann Glass. Andrew, in turn, was the son of Benjamin McGaffick or Benjemine McGuffock (possibly phonetic spelling with an accent, born about 1740). Margaret was my wife's great-grandmother. If you find time, please contact me at xxt@sbcglobal.net.

went to an old fashion wake yesterday, for a robert mcgaffick, my husbands uncle. we were talking about the family genealogy. another researcher, like me, told me some more info on the ellusive david c. mcgaffick. david's somn william and maybe even david himself, a riverboat man, were to have been con artists, like pirates of old. conning peolpe out of their supplies or any items of value, on their boats. now this is just speculation, but this story has been handed down for atleast 3 generations. also david had another son, harry. in the 1860 census, he was listed as not being sble to read or write. later he is listed as in an institution in pittsburgh, pa........ anyone have any ideas on any of this, please contact me!!! kay

Alexander’s mother, Isabella (Thomson) Fraser, had lived a few doors away from John MacKilligan’s grandmother Elspet (Trail) MacKilligan on Gallowgate, Aberdeen. Elspet was about 2 years older than Isabella. John and his siblings generally lived with their grandmother.

Alexander’s wife was Ann Cowie who was the daughter of Ann Stewart. That’s where the Stewart name came from. I understand that Ann died in New Brighton or thereabouts in 1905 (complications from the birth of Thomas?) and is buried in Grove Cemetery, NB under the name of Frazier. I do not know where Alexander went to live after 1905 having given up Thomas for adoption. Alexander was born about 1865 and Ann, his wife, about 1872.

Andrew McGaffick sibling to Elizabeth Risinger? Beaver co PA

Looking for information about the Beaver Co McGaffick families: This is listing from 1880 census:

Census Place: Fallston, Beaver, Pennsylvania
Source: FHL Film 1255097 National Archives Film T9-1097 Page 364D
Relation Sex Marr Race Age Birthplace
Andrew MC GAFFICK Self M M W 60 PA
Occ: Farmer Fa: PA Mo: PA
Margaret Ann MC GAFFICK Wife F M W 56 PA
Occ: House Keeper Fa: PA Mo: PA
Elizabeth RISINGER Sister F W W 71 PA

I believe that the Elizabeth Risinger living with Andrew and his wife belongs with this family from the 1850 census:

William Risinger, age 47, a ship's carpenter, and
his wife Elizabeth, 42. Their children are Jackson, 19; Madison, 16; Sarah J., 14; John H., 11; Thomas J., 8; and James H. P. (or K. P.), 5

In 1816, Andrew is listed as a singleman on tax list of Ohio TWP; don't know who his father was. Am mostly interested in if this Elizabeth Risinger is his sister as listed in census. Also, would like to know if Andrew's mother was living during the Civil War.

Any help with the family would be appreciated, Many Thanks, Janet Currie

I am looking for the family of Nancy Jane McGaffick she married Edgar Durham in Iowa shortley after the Civil War. They then moved to Randall Kansas and farmed until their passing. Ed and Nancy had 2 children Hugh and Dora. Believe her father may have been H. McGaffick or William T. McGaffic. A Robert McGaffick served in the Ohio 38th Vol. With Ed's brother Oliver might be a realtive. Thank You.

Hi Colleen,

I saw your listing of McGaffic family in New Castle, Pa. I have a Joseph McGaffic who married my gggrandaunt, Florence Lillian Cartwright about 1897 in New Castle. I have back several generations on the Cartwrights, but am interested in finding anything on this Joseph, or their children.

Frank, Paul, Clarence, Chester, Olive, Charles, and Wylie.

I believe Florence is buried in Oak Park Cem.

Does any of this sound familiar, would love to hear from you!

Or anyone with a possible connection

Jean Peters

Virgie McGaffic

Thanks Colleen. I do need to clarify one thing though - her name was Virgie not Virginia. Virginia Emma Speerhas was her Aunt and Virgie Elmira was my grandmother. Do you happen to have any information on who Virgie was married to? I know that sounds a little bizarre, but we know my grandfather changed his name to John Martin (how original) but we don't know what it was before he changed it. He died in 1937 when my dad was 4. And is the spelling MCGAFFIC or MCGAFFICK?
Thank you so much!
Cindy
