Anthony, Great to hear from you. My father Len was also a grand-son of this elusive `American` who we’ve had such difficulty tracing. Dad died 2001 aged 90; 3 of his 8 siblings survive, close to the family home.

It was so easy to find Jane Jemima Hicks & her siblings’ arrival on the Petrel and I’ve even come across a US descendant of her stepbrother ... Laycock -one went to US from Australia c1870s.

But Edward Nicholas McGeehan’s origins remains a mystery. I have requested his naturalisation doc. - due next week - but doubt it will reveal anything new. I’m keen to verify the source of his reported arrival in Sydney from San Francisco via Rio on the Abyssinnia. Do you have any ideas?

I can send you a few bits of background I’ve found. Just wish I’d started this search when living within cooee of Melbourne LDS library rather than after making a `seachange` to rural Tasmania. Regards HH
