HELP - 2 Robert Russell McGills???

I have 2 Robert Russell McGill's. One born in 1870 and the other in 1871. Each have a brother named Samuel.

My eyes are getting crossed and I can't figure out what children/spouses go with whom and I think I may have attached them incorrectly on my online tree. If someone can tell me which parents the following go to, then I can correct it.

1910 Census - Hamilton Co., IL - Samuel living with brother Robert and family - Wife, Anna, children, Earl, Agnes, and Corbet.
1920 Census - Robert with wife Anna, children, Earl, Agnes
1930 Census - Samuel's children, Carl, John, and Grace are living with Robert. Robert's child is Beulah.

I have Robert attached to the parents of Samuel and Clarinda Leathers McGill, but Samuel to John and Charity Foutch McGill. One is wrong and one is correct.

Both parents have children named Robert and Samuel.

I hope I am making sense to my dilemma???

Thanks.

Keitha

There is information about DNA on this website. Ancestry.com DNA tries to match people with relatives based on DNA. That way, you can find relatives that may help you with your family tree.

My g-g-grandfather was JOHN McGILL, born about 1818 in Carrickfergus, Antrim -- married ELIZABETH McGARRELL (also of Carrickfergus) in 1838 (in Carrickfergus). Their son JOSEPH McGILL (born 1855 or 1856) emigrated to US (Rhode Island) in early 1870s and married ANN BANNON in 1877. He was a textile worker. I believe the Bannons were from Leitrim/Cavan. If this sounds like it's your line, I'm happy to send info I pick up. Richard Rook

Thank you for posting this. James McGill was the son of my mother's uncle Robert. As I do more research, it is amazing how many of my Rhode Island ancestors died of flu during this time. One family lost four sons in the same year! Thanks again. Richard Rook

I have recently discovered that I also have a McGill ancestor
(John McGill) born in Carrickfergus probably about 1818, married Elizabeth McGarrall in 1838 in Carrickfergus. Their son, Joseph McGill (my g-grandfather) emigrated to US around 1875, married Ann Bannon in 1877, and lived rest of his life in Rhode Island (textile worker). I am trying various sources, and will let you know if I run into Robert McGill.
Good luck! Richard Rook

McGills -- Ireland to Rhode Island

Seeking any information on my maternal ancestors McGILL. My g-grandfather JOSEPH J. McGILL was born <1856> in Ireland (possibly Antrim area), came to US <1875> and married ANN BANNON in Rhode Island in 1877. His parents were JOHN McGILL and ELIZABETH (NANCY) McGILL. My research suggests that both were born in Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim, that they were married in Carrickfergus, Antrim in 1838, and that her maiden name was McGARRALL. JOSEPH McGILL was a laborer in textile industry (many mills in Rhode Island at the time). Any information greatly appreciated. Richard Rook

Knoxville TN Orphanages

I have two great aunts who were sent to Knoxville orphanages around 1915 after their father was killed in an altercation with the police. They were 7 and 12 years old. Their older brother James V McGill is my grandfather. He was about 17 or 18 when their father was killed. The girls names are Elsie and Vena McGill. Is there a way to obtain the orphanage records to possibly track down my GGfather? The orphanages were St John's and Knox County Industrial School.

Hi McGill!

I, too, am related to Monsignor James O'Toole. I recently (August 4, 2009) added a bit of information on our family tree regarding him. If you do not get a 'hint' the next time you check on him, feel free to drop me a line at ToledoNews4You@aol.com. Just put "O'Toole" in the subject line so I don't inadvertently toss you in my spam folder.

Haven't noticed the other names that you mention in any of my research. Some of my Burch entries are spelled Birch. Good luck with your computer. Jennifer

Hi Jennifer
Ellen (Elinor) McGill, nee Bitcon was John Barron's mother in law. John Barron was married to Esther McGill. As for the name of Burch I'm not sure about as my computer crashed a few months ago and I lost the lot. But I have used a similar surname Burge at Genealogy.com. No idea why as I have been tracing these families for a number of years. I have only used this surname when I first started doing look ups. But as I go thru my thousands and thousands of notes if I come across the name I will get back to you. For some reason it sounds very familiar. I have checked my immediate hard copies of the family tree but have not come across it. Do u have any documentation in regards to your grandfather and John Barron executing the will. Would be very interested in seeing it. The Barrons are connected to the McGill, Anderson, Bitcon and Small families. Look forward to hearing from you.
Regards Donna
