Hello,
I am looking for any information on my McGinty/McIntee (unsure of spelling) ancestors.
Bridget McGinty (sp?) Duffy came to the US in the 1800s and settled in Harrison New Jersey. She was born approx 1830 in Ireland. Her husband, who I'm told was called Michael, was also born in Ireland and died sometime between approx. 1872 when their last child was conceived and the 1880 census.
Unfortunately, I don't know whether they met and married in Ireland or in New Jersey. Nor do I know anything about their parents or siblings.
I met a distant relative once who told me that Bridget & Michael came from a village in County Longford.
They had at least seven children (all born in the US, birth years are approximate):
Michael (b. 1854)
Patrick (b. 1859)
James (b. 1862)
Edward (b. 1865)
Catherine (b. 1868)
William (b. 1870)
Ann (b. 1873).
James stayed in Harrison, becoming a police officer. He married a woman named Mary (McHue? b. approx. 1864 in England. Her mother was also born in England, her father in Ireland).
James and Mary had 9 children. 7 were still living in 1910: Catherine (my great-grandmother--b. 1885), William (b. 1887), Francis (b. 1889), James Jr. (b. 1892), Thomas (b. 1896), Rosemary (b 1897) and Joseph (b. 1902).
I would love to hear from anyone who has a connection to my family or anyone who has any information that goes further back than I have!
Thanks,
Rebecca
