Sarah,
last email I found on list bounced back to me. I'm searching for McGoona and had email contact with Tom McGoona. He suggested I try to contact you because you had emailed him sometime back and apparently your email is out of date. Please reply directly to me rather than the list. I'm not sure if you are searching McGough or McGoona (but probably very close). Think it was something about your grandmother from near Navan.
Thanks
Nancy
email: nposs1936@verizon.net

McGough and Campbell families

Hello:
I am researching my family tree. Thomas D. Campbell c. 1825 and Rose McGough; b. 1825, Co.Louth IRL were my gr- gr-grandparents. His son, Joseph Henry and family grew up in Seneca Falls, NY which is where my grandmother, Alice Rose Campbell; b. 1892 was from. A newspaper reference indicated that Thomas D. Campbell was from Co. Louth as well.
I would love to hear from anyone else researching these families.
Best regards,
Chuck Keenan

Pius McGough Correction

In an earlier posting I stated the Death Date of Pius to be March 29-1956. That is wrong (a typo on my part) his date of death was actually March 20-1956. His birthdate is stated on his Death Certificate as March 27-1881 in Patton but the borough of Patton wasn't incorporated until November 1-1893. He is also shown as a (Widow) on his Death Certificate indicating that he was married. If you have any information on Pius please reply.

****To Hugh McGough***** please go to your 1900 Census, Cambria County, Carroll Township page and correct my mistake.
McGOUGH pronunciation- MAJOCK

Hugh McGough's website gives "majock" as one of many pronunciations for McGOUGH. I have a couple of generations of MAJOCK (also MAJOCH) ancestors in Tilehurst, Berks., England, the earliest being John MAJOCK, who m Mary BAKER in 1712. As MAJOCK seems to be a very unusual name, I wondered if it might have been a version of McGOUGH. Does anyone else know of McGOUGH being pronounced "majock", or of any family links with Tilehurst in the 16- 1700s?
However, MAJOCK may also be of Polish origin...
Many thanks.

McGough, Patrick (b.1841 or 1842 in Mayo Ireland)

The information below and my research leads me to believe that My Grandfather Patrick McGough (b. 1841 or 1842) is a son of Patrick McGough (b. abt 1815) and Anne Ronane of Castlebar, Mayo, Ireland. The search by “South Mayo Family Research Center” on 26 Oct 2006 did not locate my grandfather, Patrick McGough, but I believe he probably was born prior to the children below and perhaps in a different town.

Subject of Letter: County Mayo Birth/Baptism Search for Patrick McGough
Dear Mr. McGough:
Thank you for your request for a search of County Mayo records of births and baptisms for Patrick McGough, born circa 1841or 1842, son of Patrick McGough and Anne Ronane
Civil records of births did not commence in Ireland until 1864. No record of the baptism of Patrick was found. However, Patrick McGough and Anne Ronane of Mount Gordan (located on the Westport road on the outskirts of Castlebar) are recorded as the parents of: (A) Thomas McGough baptized 27 January 1843 (sponsors: Patrick Ronane and Mary Ronane). This child apparently died in infancy as a second Thomas was baptized later. (B) Thomas McGough baptized 4 December 1843 (sponsors: Patrick Ronane and Mary Ronane). (C) Anne McGough baptized 10 September 1848 (sponsors: James McGough and Mary McGough). (D) James McGough baptized 22 December 1853 (sponsors: Patrick Ronane and Judith Ronane).
Yours sincerely,
South Mayo Family Research Center

This above information correlates reasonably well with information on World Tree and magoo.com, except the information is more complete and dates are more accurate. The sponsors listed (above) may also offer clues for those searching for relatives of Patrick and Anne. I believe there were at least two other children born to Patrick McGough and Anne Ronane, but not necessarily in Castlebar. Any addition information would be appreciated.

Pius, Sarah, Magdelen McGough Update

I've read the information provided in the magoo.com: McGoughs McGoughs and McGues in the 1900 Census of the ... , Cambria County, Carroll Township. The census record is accurate but there seems to be some confusion about Sarah and Magdelen.
Sarah McGough (Dumm) b. December 25-1879 d. January 13-1936 was the wife of Joseph McGough b. March 7-1879 d. May 27-1961. (Joseph's birth year on his tombstone is wrong)
The confusion with Sarah is that she used her nickname "Sadie" on many of the records found for her including her Marriage Application to Joseph and Birth Certificates for some children.
However on her funeral arrangment records her name is stated as Sarah, A Grand-Daughter named after her was Sarah, and when she and Joseph stood for the christening of a grandchild her name was Sara (Mispelled). The information provided has been verified.
Simon McGough was the father of Joseph McGough and Pius McGough b. 1881 possibly March d. March 29-1956. Simon's wife was Margret Hershel who after the death of Simon and before her second marrige to John A Trinkley appears to change her name to Magdelen. She is buried under the name of Magdelen Trinkley in the St Mary/St George/Queen of Peace Cemetery , Clearfield Township, Cambria County, PA beside her second husband John A Trinkley.
Though she used the name Magdelen while married to John A Trinkley, her name stated on her Death Certificate is again Margret and her birth is stated as Unknown.
The above book states that she was born in 1848 howver she died on November 14-1913 at age 53. making her birth year at 1860.
Pius is also buried in this cemetery in an unmarked grave and possibly in the Trinkley Family Plot. However the cemetery records of 1956 were poorly kept and no record of which plot Pius is in is available.
Nothing to verify the death of Simon has yet been found.

Simon Mcgough

I would appreciate any info I can get on the Simon McGough mentioned in my postings of April 2004. After the 1880 census I cannot find any more information on him. If you can supply me with any info espically his time and cause of death or his place of burial I would greatly appreciate it. Verified information strongly suggests that he is the Simon from Croyle Township, Cambria County, PA but I haven't been able completely verify it.

I'm looking for any information on my family (McGough) who lived in Illinois around 1930 (according to the census). Kenneth McGough (b. 1912) who married Pauline McGough (b. 1913) and the they had two daughters: Frances (b. 1922) and Joyce (b. 1933). Joyce died when she was 21 --she's my primary focus (she was my grandmother). Pauline later married a Schnider and then a Korst. I don't know her maiden name. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

I am searching for any information i can find on Simon McGough of Cambria County, PA. He was born in either 1853 or 1855 in Croyle Township, Cambria County, PA. He was my Great-Great-Grandfather. My last record of him is the 1880 Census inwhich he is listed in Logan Township, Blair County, PA with his wife Maggie and 1 year old son Joseph (My Great-Grandfather). I believe strongly that the Simon shown as born in 1853 in Croyle Township is the same person but the 1880 Census shows his age as 25. If you have any information on the Simon McGough from Cambria County I would really appreciate hearing from you.

The Sprague Advocate, Sprague, Lincoln County, Washington, November 15, 1918.

The entire Sprague community was shocked to hear last week of the death of Francis McGough. He passed away at the home of his parents at E. 801 Boone Ave. Spokane after a few days illness with pneumonia following an attack of infleuenza.

Francis Alayisious McGough was the fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. P. E. McGough, a well known pioneer family here. He was born at their farm home on Dec. 29th 1892 and with the exception of a few months has spent his entire life this community.

He attended the local public schools and since grown to manhood has engaged in wheat farming with his brothers who now operate the McGough farm. During the winter months for several years he has worked in the shoe department of Culbertson-Grote-Rankin and in the Model Boot Shop in Spokane. He went to Camp Lewis with the October 1917 quota from Lincoln County but was honorably discharged in December owing to a lame anke which resulted from a broken leg some years ago.

Frank was an exemplary young man, admired, respected and loved by all who knew him. His kindly quiet ways and gentle courtesy endeared him to every one with whom he came in contact. In his last moments he was soothed and comforted by ministrations of the Catholic church of which he was always a most sincere and devoted member.

He leaves to mourn his loss his father and mother, sisters Carmel and Irma of Spokane, brothers Ephriam, John, and Leo, who reside here and Raymond who is in training at Camp Lewis. A host of relatives and friends join with the family in their deep sorrow.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning Nov. 1st from St. Alayisius church in Spokane. Rev. Fr. Mackin officiating. The floral offerings sent by sorrowing friends*****
(I didn't copy the rest of the article, but can if someone wants it)

I'm not related to this family.

Idonia McGough (b: 1866, d: 1947) m: John P. Jones; lived Nevada Co AR

John P. Jones (b: 1858, d: 1897) and Idonia McGough Jones (b: 1866, d: 1947) are buried in Nevada County, Arkansas, at Pisgah Cemetery, located two miles south of Laneburg.

John's parents appear to be Thomas Jones (b: 1821, d: 1902) and Arminda (maiden name unknown; b: 1826, d: 1899) that are also buried at this small, unkept cemetery of Pisgah.

Also buried at Pisgah is Mary Ann Jones Barham (b: 1850, d: 1901), who is my gg-grandmother. I believe Thomas and Arminta to be her parents and perhaps John P. is her brother. I'm hoping to find out more about these Jones'.

Mary Ann Jones married my gg-grandfather William Robert Barham in 1871. He was a farmer and Baptist minister. They lived in northern Nevada County until about the 1890s, when W.R. took a church at Cale, and they moved there, which is near Pisgah. I assume Thomas & Arminta lived in that area as well.

Mary Ann had at least two brothers: Cal Jones and John(?) Jones, who both lived at Center, about 4 miles east of Prescott (near Redland). Mary Ann & W. R. Barham also lived in this area at Redland for many years and many of their descendants are still in Redland today.

The Jones' at Center also were married into the Lavender and Felts families. Cal & Mary Jones had at least two children: son Horace Jones and a daughter that married Will Nelson. Horace Jones' daughter Sue married a Pollock.

More details on these Jones' and where they originated prior to Arkansas would be appreciated.

need to contact family members!!!

Need to find out information on any living relatives. I do not know much about my family background. My father is Michael Anthony Mcgough whom had several brothers and sisters. My father and his family are from the Boston area. One of his brothers had joined the military, and a sister who had a problem with dairy products and could not eat them. His father died when he was 8 or 9 years of age and his mom was sent to some type of ward hospital. My father told me that from that time forward he grew up in adoption homes until the age of sixteen where he then started racing horses. At the age of 22 he met his wife and had 3 children, the oldest Michael Adam Mcgough born in Hot Springs,ARK.,April 9,1980. The other two children are twins[one boy and one girl] named Chris Aaron and Vivian Lori McGough born on march 12,1982 in Boston. That is about all I have on my father. If someone has information on my father's family members please let me know. It is very important that I meet with someone within my family.

McGough of RI

Hi, I saw a post in regards to McGough. There were two other items that coincide with my family ... Murray and Rhode Island.

My ancestor was Ellen McGough born ca 1808 in (we believe) Ballybay, County Monaghan, Ireland. By 1847 she was here in the USA, married & with children. She married Thomas Larkin (1803-1877) and she died 1879, buried Old St Mary's in Pawtucket.

Her six children married Kelly, Murphy, Martin, Goodfellow, Hughes spouses.
A Robert Murray m. in 1879 a descendant of this line, Agnes T. Martin. All of these families were in the Pawtucket & Providence area....Murray in Prov.

For more of this tree, see
http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?d...

Let me know if you think there's a connection ... especially the McGough line ... mine is earlier I know ... but there are some nice coincidences here!
Al

McGoff/McGough/McGeough

Doing research on McGoff but it could have different spellings. GM was a Susan McGoff whose parents were Michael McGoff and Mary Newalls. Susan came to the USA to Manchester1880's where she married a Jerimiah Linehan. Family folklore has it that three brothers from scotland were hired by the Bingham Family in Ireland to build there estate. And father could of been one of the three brothers. Please help. Thanks.
