McGrady, Irish? Scottish? Scots-Irish? All the Above?
I have a feeling this topic is all clear as mud to all of you as it is to me, but I was wondering what anyone else has concluded on the McGrady name. Is it Irish, Scottish, Scots-Irish? And really, this is kind of a trick question as "Scottaie" essentially means THE Irish. As you may/may not know the Scots came from Ireland. And many of them (the Scots-Irish) moved back to Ireland after being in Scotland.
It is my conclusion that the McGradys in my ancestral lineage must have been Scots-Irish. I can trace my lineage into the very early 1700's. Those McGradys also settled in the Appalacian Moutain region. As some of you may know many Scots-Irish settled in the Appalacians during this time period. They said, "screw this colony stuff lets go to the hills and work on our moonshine!" I have also known my ancestors to be of protestant beliefs. All these facts just don't seem to coincide with the typical Catholic-Irishmen.
Anyways, back to the question. Irish? Scottish? Scots-Irish? All the Above? No Idea?
