Need Information - Information I find that seems accepted suspect could be wrong.

Haven been told for years now that John McGregor, of Northampton Co., NC d. c. 1794, sp. In will named Mary was Mary(Polly) Flowers d/o Ransford Flowers of same county, who d. 1789.

William McGregor, of Northampton Co., NC, was married to a Sarah Flowers d/o Ransford Flowers and sister of Mary (Polly) Flowers above.

Just found what is in Ransford Flowers’ will which cast great doubt on this and on most of the information on the McGregor and Sandefur information found on the web for genealogy research.
Ransford Flowers will (1788) lists living children as:
Sarah Hardan (Hardin – husband maybe a John Hardin from some land records but not certain)
Polly Mitchell (husband probably Jesse Mitchell – from land records and he witnessed Ransford Flowers will.
Ann Flowers
Ransford Flowers
Elizabeth “Betsy” Flowers

He also mentions a grandson – William McGregor (only grandchild mentioned) – the executor of the will was John McGregor

Have John McGregor of Northampton Co., NC will 1794 (Anson Co.) with surviving sp. Mary
Children listed in will:
Sarah Williams
Francis Sandefur (John Sandefur)
Cynthia (Centhey) Sandefur (Robert Sandefur)

These 2 wills are only 6 years apart. Ransford Flowers’ daughter Polly (assume this is Mary) in 1788 is married to a Mitchell – so very doubtful if she is the Mary sp of John McGregor found 6 years later in Johns will with 6 children 3 with married names.

Who is John McGregor’s wife Mary – is she a Flowers and if so who are her parents?
Who is William McGregor grandson of Ransford Flowers mentioned in his will – it appears he was his only McGregor grandchild maybe of a daughter who was dead by 1788…

John McGregor’s will of 1794 also mentions a brother – William McGregor.

Have a will of a William McGregor of Northampton Coo., NC – written 1809 and proved 1810 (again in Anson Co. with sp. Nancy.

Anthony, William, Alexander, Nancy Williams and Frances McGregor

Who is this William McGregor – he left property in his will which is called Jack Swamp. John McGregor (Megreger) (sp. Elizabeth according to deed) transferred property called Jack Swamp to William McGregor (Megreger) of Warwick Co., VA This was a 287 acre parcel which John McGregor (Megreger) had purchased from John Justice – is this the same piece of property and then was is the relationship of these men. William McGregor of Warwick Co., VA I have been told went to Warren Co., TN – or is he the William with a will stating he was of Northampton Co., NC?

Any Information to help sort this out with documentation would be appreciated. It seems that people put whatever they find on the web without noting that much is speculation and then if becomes urban legend and it will be very hard for people to know that there genealogy is accurate. This is not a good thing for those who love genealogy and are searching for truth. And then you have the nuts out there who are so excited that their DNA have shown them to trace back to Adam – please understand just what DNA can and cannot show. There is a McGregor genealogy on the web which is cited for source information and they have all sort of McGregor families mixed up and are a complete mess.
