Re: Harry/Henry McGriff

I am trying to track down information about my deceaseds brother's dad. As far as I have been able to track things down. We know his name was George McGriff, and according to my aunts and uncles, he was a logger in south east alaska. But they recall very little of George McGriff, said he came by once in awhile, only because our mother wouldn't allow it. Now I am not sure if this is the right George McGriff, I am just trying to track down any leads I come across. As my bother died in the summer of 2008 and before he died, all he knew about his dad was his name was george mcgriff and has never seen him since he was a little kid. I have been working on a family tree don't have much info on my brothers dad. Now I don't know if my mother and George McGriff was married, as our brother and sister were not sure either. My brother was born in 1964 in ketchikan , ak. Please if this sounds familar, please let me know. I am not trying to claim anything or expect anything, just gathering info for my famiily tree. And it might be good for my nephew to know his family tree once this is complete. Thank you for your time

McGriff Cousins,

Hello.

I just recently delved into this Family Line, and was happily surprised at all the data and history that can be found. It's refreshing and energizing.

It seems that both John McGriff and son, Thomas McGriff, served in the Revolutionary War. If anyone(s) have xerox copies of the handwritten documents, I be most obliged if they could be mailed (or emailed) to me.

Thomas McGriff is the fellow that caused his parents a good deal of concern when he allowed himself to be kidnapped by Indians in 1774. Thankfully he escaped (or some of us wouldn't be here now). Geez, now that little tyke has gotten me concerned.

I am also hoping that some of you here have copies of Deeds, Wills, Court Records, Church Records, and so on, that would be so great to have copies of.

Well, I'll end this now by bidding you all a 'thank you', and wishing you all 'Good Luck'...and for the swell amount of information that many of you have made available to us all online. It's no small thing. No small thing, indeed.

I just came from pestering our 'Adkin Cousins'. <grin> This is all great!

Take Care, Cousins!

Most Warmly,
Terry
[Never Captured By Indians and Will Avoid It If At All Possible]

"Stradan's Stables, Elk Grove, California" is stamped on the reverse as well. The photo was taken in April 1968.

Attached is a copy of the photo.
Lancaster, SC McGriff's

Hi,
My name is Tameka McGriff and I would like any information about any of my ancestors that I can find. The earliest member I know of is my great-great-great-great grandfather. His name was Peter McDonald. I am told that the McGriff name came from combining McDonald and Griffin together. Where Griffin came from, I do not know and would love to find out. Peter was a free man, but because he married a slave all of their children were slaves also. I am unsure if Peter was white or black. His son was Albert McGriff. Albert's son was Daniel, and here is where I know a little more. Daniel Webster McGriff married Sarah Cousar. They had Booker T McGriff and he married Beatrice(Grandma Bee) Cunningham. They had Robert Lee McGriff Sr, he married Ella Lois(Peaches) Richardson. Robert and Peaches had Drucilla Jannie McGriff and she had me. As of now, I am trying to concentrate on the McGriff side of the family then I will hit each one of my grandmother's families up one by one. They are Cousar, Cunningham, Richardson and Clinton. Those are the only ones I know of for now. I would appreciate any help I can get.

McGriff's in Lancaster South Carolina

Hi everyone my name is Tameka and I am in search of any information I can find about the McGriff family. I was born and raised in Lancaster, but I know that there are McGriff's everywhere. Here is a little of my background. My mother was Drucilla Jannie McGriff, she passed away Aug 29,2003. My grandparents were Robert Lee McGriff Sr and Ella Lois Richardson McGriff, but everyone called her "Peaches". Now is where I start needing help. I know the names of some of my greater grandparents, but not all. My paternal great grandfather was Booker T. Washington McGriff and he married Beatrice Cunningham (called Bee). My maternal great grandfather was James Williams Richardson and he married Willis Clinton everyone called her "Bill". The earliest I can go is to Daniel Webster McGriff and his wife Sarah Cousar McGriff, my paternal great-great-great grandparents. My uncle Paul McGriff told me that the McGriff name came from a combination of McDonald and Griffin. Please anyone if you have any information for me please let me know.
