I am doing a study of McHaffies. In America they are found in early 1700s in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. In Scotland the name is found in 1500s in Galloway (Wigtownshire and Kirkcudbrightshire) which lie on the coast on the Solway Firth. I will be happy to have information and will try to help. The first McHaffie in colonial America is thought to have entered at New Jersey in 1685, captured and banished at Wigtown in Oct 1684, a Covenanter Presbyterian involved in the Battle of Bothwell Bridge in 1679. Sources include Bockstruck, Mary Kegley, M. J. Clark, L. P. Summers (not indexed but p 518 p 1400 of Annals), and Register of the Privy Council of Scotland, and Parish Lists of Wigtownshire and Minnigaff 1684.
